  1. This past March my DW and I were in 9006 on the Gem. We went up to the Haven maybe six times during the trip. We loved our cabin. It offered a couple of balconies and plenty of room. I don't think we would have had that space in a Haven cabin. The Haven area was nice but not a space we needed daily. We would do an Owner's Suite again over the Haven

    Enjoy your trip.

Totally agree with you. We've stayed in a Owners Suite on both the Gem & Jade and visited the Haven once on each ship just to check it out. When the OS have these beautiful front & side balconies why would you want to side in the Haven & look at the walls.

  2. NCL invites suite guests to breakfast in Cagney's on the Spirit, but the suite guest isn't permitted to extend that invitation to others.

If a suite guest wishes to dine with other non-suite guests, there is nothing stopping them from dining together in the MDR or the buffet. Problem solved.

So you are saying if I'm booked in the Haven I can join non Haven guests at the buffet or MDR ?? Joking of course .....its just nobody ever presents this scenario

  3. I'd take it, even Mr C would take it and he has his wallet under lock and key! Vibe passes are $150 each aren't they, so if you take that value off you are getting all the perks (which is basically a better room and akin to speciality dining for all your meals) for $350.

However, im sure you will have a fabulous time even if you were staying in a cupboard under the stairs because the Epic is amazing. I hope you and your mum have a brilliant holiday :)

Has the Epic changed ? Have they turned POSH which is for Haven guests to VIBE ?

  4. I never understood the fascination with someone's salary. Who cares!

Exactly !! I live in Ontario Canada & if you hold a Public Sector job & make over 100K a year it's published .... Just the other day a friend of mine who works for the county as a superintendent saw they were short with holidays so he was helping out cutting grass & I had several people say "he gets paid over 100K to cut grass"

  5. Check your travel insurance's missing luggage coverage and also the credit card company you bought your cruise with - they may cover missing luggage.

In future, you might want to get this handy device for each bag:

    http://www.trakdot.com/en

Sorry this happened to you. Hopefully you didn't put anything that really mattered to you in your luggage. Once the luggage is put ashore, I believe it comes under control of the Port Authority.

Thank you for link, for sure looking at purchasing !!

  6. We now have bright red luggage and really big Canada luggage tags with Maple Leafs in bright red, too. We always watch the carousel for those tags!

I have the same type of tags & last March at the cruise terminal in Houston a lady from Minnesota who I will call Mrs M still managed to take my suitcase !! Well I assumed it was her as her's was the only bag left in the Haven section. So I filled out the forms & I'm sitting at the airport & over loud speaker I hear is there anyone in the terminal who has Mrs M's suitcase so I think this is to much of a coincidence !! I go back thru security & there is Mrs M with my suitcase & now she is accusing me of stealing her suitcase ?? Meanwhile Mrs M is so screwed up she had got on the wrong NCL transfer & was even at the wrong airport! I said your suitcase is back at terminal & why would I take someone else's suitcase just because it's left there ?? Like how did I even know Mrs M you were the one who had my suitcase ! So I suggested she take taxi back & collect suitcase & this time head to the right airport & thank her lucky stars her flight was not till 5pm. She even tried to blame it on a porter but her friend clarified she had grabbed my suitcase & handed to the porter. Mrs M was maybe 55 years old so I'm not talking about some little lady who was 90 suffering from confusion.

  7. Thanks- 3 of of me, wife & 6 year old.. i just feel that being on the 9th floor may be too far away from the Haven?? we sailed last year on Disney fantasy and were right outside the concierge lounge and it was great.. not sure if the larger room ( OS) with a few add'l perks outweighs being on Haven floor--- & not sure how much we will actually use haven?? what has been your experience-- use it a lot, or not much??..

One more question regarding the OS ( which face forward)-- is there much wind on the forward facing balconies?? can you use them when the ship is truly " at sea" or more like when the ship is docking or in port??

    thx

The wind on the front deck while sitting down was never an issue. The only thing is you do lose your privacy if this important as the bridge looks down on you. I'd not hesitate with a 6 year old staying in room, the couch without being pulled out even would make a nice comfy bed. Trust me your 6 year old would not enjoy the Haven pool as I'm sure your bath tub at home is bigger :D

  8. 9004 and 9504 are the rooms plus there are two on 10 unless they are sold out. How many of you are there? If 4 probably best for the 2br. The OS will get you 3 bottles booze plus unlimited in room water and soda. The OS also have a front and side balcony which is nice. For us, if 2 then OS but if 4 with older kids or adults, then 2br.

I've stayed on the Gem in 9004 & on the Jade in same OS & the 2 balconies are amazing, the front one is good for sunbathing, coming into ports best view plus if u sit at back u can get shade, the side balcony is shaded & pretty much wind free. I found the Haven on Jewel ships for me not worthwhile visiting as pool the size of your bathtub & the whole area felt like a sauna & it's not like there is a bar or anything there. Just small pool, for hot tub, chairs & a table with coffee, cookies laid out. Truly on both Gem & Jade walked up once just to check it out. I think u will be more than pleased with Gem OS.

It was just the 2 of us in the OS, I'd stat 4 with the other 2 were children but if they were adults I'd got for the 2 bedroom suite.

  9. My first cruise was on the Epic in a Havan Spa Suite & never even made it into the spa, I'm not really a spa kind of person but at the times seemed like a good idea. Haven spa suites are not right in the Haven so you have to travel a bit but we didn't find it an issue. We also loved Posh.

  10. Not sure what the big "BUT" is all about.

Obviously no flashes were used. That would be reckless.

I'm very happy you had the intelligence not to use a flash as the 1000 plus passengers on the Epic didn't. I myself if it had not been learning about this on TV would have probably taken a picture with flash on.

Maybe it's something that should be mentioned in the drill.

  11. Hello amazing insiders!

We are sailing on the September 18th cruise from Barcelona with four people: myself, my husband, and my two adult stepsons. We are contemplating the difference between our current room (17000 -- a family villa) or switching to 16002 (a deluxe owner's suite).

My questions (and hopefully you have answers):

    1. Is Cabin 17000 noisy?

    2. Is it better in general to be on Deck 16 if you like quiet or Deck 17?

    3. Are sodas always free in the Haven?

    4. I understand where the boys would sleep in the family suite, but in the owner's suite, is the only other sleeping area (besides the king bed) the couch? Or is there a third place to sleep?

Thank you so much for considering a response to this thread!

    Mallory

I've stayed in a DOS on the Epic twice with just my husband which was fine but if I was a group of four I'd much prefer the 2 bedroom Haven suite this way the other two have their own bedroom & shower.

  12. I'm going to bookmark this thread so I can come back to read it when I DON'T get an upsell on our April 3 cruise. It will probably make me feel better about staying in our mini suite.

Seriously, I am not very good at having people "do" for me this way. Even on vacation. Now don't anyone get all silly and ask about things like a waiter in a restaurant, or a bartender making me a drink. I'm not crazy. Just feel a little odd about having someone really "wait" on me on a one to one basis this way. I know I would never ask a butler to do anything that even appeared to be in any way over the top - and to me getting food from another location/restaurant the way described here would be too much. Luckily I know that my husband feels the same way. (Full disclosure: neither one of us would hesitate to ask the OTHER to run up 5 flights of stairs and the full length of the ship to get a drink or a snack for each other!!!)

As always, just my personal feelings.

    Could not agree more

  13. Always a etiquette beat down from miss manners on tipping. People want to pretend they are rich for a week so they have a butler to me its no big deal just another person with there hand out on a NCL ship. I rarely use stuff like this because I dont cruise to hang out in my room for all my meals I actually do things and interact with others. I have my meals in house at home that is why I like to go out on vacation. People act all needy when they get in the suits those butlers must think were a bunch of pretentious weak people that need constant attention. Plus I dont want them sneaking in my room to drop off snacks I eat 3 times a day and rarely snack.[/quote

I'm not sure what you mean by people want to "pretend" to be rich? I have always stayed in the Haven & I've never dined in nor have I ever made any demands on the butler other than the first day I ask for the use of an iron & board & it's not like I ask him to iron for me !! So if asking for an iron/board makes me a pretentious weak needy person ...I'm guilty. Also to clarify even though I don't run the butler off his feet I still tip him $150.00 for the week as its not his fault I'm not a needy person & I have the money as I'm not "pretending to be rich"
