  1. Someone told me today that the Terrace Grill was where Sorrento is now but then someone at P&O said they thought it was in Al Fresco at night which I think is wrong.

    Not very good when p&o haven't a clue !

Never mind , apparently there will be a Beach House from early June where Sorrento is now ( confirmed by P&O but sadly it's not opening till the cruise after ours )

A lady on the cruise before ours which leaves in a few days said they have had a letter saying that building equipment for the new restaurant will be loaded on at the start of their cruise and its hoped the work won't cause any inconvenience or words to that effect .

It's a 21 day cruise she's on , the one immediately before ours so I'm hoping the Beach house is finished early in time for our cruise [emoji3][emoji3]

  2. Can anyone tell me if there is still a Terrace Grill on Oriana?

They still show a sample menu which we like the look of as an alternative to MDR but can't see it on the deck plan as it's now Sorrento and that menu doesnt look appealing to my husband although I'm sure it's very nice.

I can see it's changing again next year to the Beach House which would also be good but not for this year.

If not apart from MDR and buffet is it just Sorrento or Marco Pierre Whites restaurant in the evenings ?

No grill option at all ?

    Thanks in advance.

  3. Thanks that's great , we are freedom dining but for some reason I thought I'd read we were in Oriental restaurant so than you .

I've just looked at the new brochure and it says next year Oriana will have a Sindu and a Beach House so must be getting a refurb later in the year but I'm sure we'll find plenty to chose from, thanks [emoji1]

  4. We love Thomson but are trying P&O this year ( Oriana)

Looking forward to it , we've tried Royal Caribbean and it was a lovely cruise but not as keen on the ships and general atmosphere aboard . Just not as friendly as Thomson at all , we just much prefer the whole Thomson experience 😉

Will be nice to compare P&O with Thomson however the itineraries with P&O are just not as appealing as Thomson and not as port intensive and as we live in Lincolnshire it's so much easier for us with Thomson to do a fly cruise from our local airport plus we like to be straight out to the sun , no treck to Southampton and no bay of biscay!

I know P&O do med fly cruises but just a choice of 2 itineraries repeated all summer ( which we have done) plus no local airports ( in our case ) so no good for us.

We actually like the Thomsons ships, they have character but I have to agree Thomson can seem expensive when you compare with other lines with newer ships with more facilities although you need to take into consideration that a Thomson cruise price includes a return flight which would cost around £200-£250 and if you book early also free all inclusive which can save you lots so it's not always as clear cut as it looks initially.

If you want a balcony though Thomsons are very expensive compared to other lines .

Thomsons do seem to be getting dearer overall so if we do another with them which we hope to it would be a late deal .

P&O just seen to have far better deals especially with the obc too 😄😄

  5. Sorry , regarding Majesty cabin 726 above , I made an error!

Misunderstood and put adjoining cabin one side .

Apologies there isn't an adjoining cabin I meant there was a cabin one side but not the other as it's at the end .

    Senior moment !

Now another senior moment , this was meant to be added to the post but added it as a separate comment and you can't delete them !

    Sorry :-(

  6. Spirit , Deck 1 Outside

    Cabin Number: 894

    Cruise Ship: Spirit

    Date of Cruise: August 2011

    Bed Formation: Queen

    Bath/Shower?: Shower

    Adjoining Cabin?: No

    Balcony?: No

Comment on the Size of the Cabin:

Really spacious , biggest cabin we have had so far.

    Comment on any Noise Issues:

We were near the engine rooms so some vibration.

Can honestly say it didn't bother us at all, in fact it lulled us to sleep. ;)

    Comment on Storage Space:

Fantastic! Lots of storage , good sized wardrobe, lots of drawers , dressing table.

    Comment on the Bathroom:

    Compact but fine .

    Any Other Comments?:

We loved this cabin :) Was a Late booking so we didn't choose it and don't think we would have done but it was great.

It is low down ( Deck 1 ) so at night when sailing the sea is sometimes over the portholes but we just closed the hatches and curtains and it didn't bother us although this may worry some people.

However as it's low down and midship it's a good position if your worried about movement.

Would You Recommend this Cabin?: Yes we would as long as the vibration won't be an issue.

    Score out of 10: 8/10

We loved the cabin but may not be near enough to bars / prom deck for some but it's reasonably priced and very roomy and comfortable. :D

  7. MAJESTY. CABIN 726 OUTSIDE PLUS

    Cabin Number: 726

    Cruise Ship: Majesty

Date of Cruise: June / July 2013

    Bed Formation: Queen

    Bath/Shower?: Shower

Adjoining Cabin?: Just on one side

    Balcony?: No

Comment on the Size of the Cabin:

Spacious , plenty of room both sides of bed.

    Comment on any Noise Issues:

    None really.

Occasional noise when people on prom deck but never disturbed us at all.

    Comment on Storage Space:

Adequate , most other ' plus' cabins have the larger wardrobe . This one didn't for some reason ( think was because it is a different layout.) we were concerned when we arrived but in fact it was fine. We had 2 weeks clothes and I tend to take far more than needed but everything fitted in easily.

Plenty of hanging space , shelves, drawers etc. Dressing table with good lighting too.

    Comment on the Bathroom:

Cosy but fine. Nice big vanity area around the sink and good lighting . Shower pressure was fine. No complaints at all.

    Any Other Comments?:

We chose this cabin as it was on the prom deck and exactly mid ships . ( There's a 726b which is smaller and a standard cabin so be aware if booking to ask for 726 :) )

The position of the cabin was fantastic. We were right next to central stairs , central lifts. Right near the doors out onto prom deck , perfect to get some air at anytime .

We rarely used the lift at night, two decks down to Restaurants and some bars , the other bar we liked ( Polo ) was just one deck down on Deck 6 so it was very handy.

We had been concerned before we went regarding the window, we had been told by some that you can see in, others said def not ! We checked it out well once aboard and it's a bit of both actually.

During the day you cannot see in but from inside you can see straight out . It's quite funny as often people try to look in , you see them squinting trying to see but during the day they can't. People also use the glass from outside as a mirror as it's coated and that's very comical.

At night however you just need to close the curtains as although not a clear view you can see in from the deck if it's dark outside and the lights are on inside.

    Would You Recommend this Cabin?:

Definitely :D , we would also book it again next time on the Majesty unless someone had beaten us to it :(

Score out of 10: 10/10

  8. Where are you off to, Dreamgirl?

    Hi Little Nell,

We are going on P&O Oriana at the end of May .

    10 nights from Southampton.

La Coruna , Lisbon, Cadiz, Malaga , Tangiers ......

    Really looking forward to it.

All new ports to us except Tangiers as we usually fly past them!

Don't think we will get off at Tangiers , went as a child about 50 years ago, doubt it's changed much

  9. We have been on both .

We liked the Spirit but loved the Majesty!

We found the food in MDR on the Majesty far far better than on the Spirit .

Liked the feel of the ship better too on the Majesty, liked the bars and the pools .

We were on deck 7 ( prom deck) outside plus cabin and it was great .

Would def recommend a 'plus ' cabin on the majesty for the little extra it costs as the standard ones are snug.

Would book either again for itinerary but we much preferred the Majesty overall 😄😄😄

  10. We were on the Majesty in 2012

Had a fab cruise we absolutely loved the ship and the crew were fantastic ( as usual)

I would recommend eating in the MDR ( main dining room) for breakfast and evening meals as the buffet gets very busy at breakfast time . You can still help yourself at breakfast in the MDR it's just more relaxed as the waiters look after you and bring toast and really, coffee etc.

There are two mdr's Four seasons ( which we preferred as its smaller and I think it's the only one they use at breakfast too ) and Seven Seas.

Service in both is very good and the food was excellent .

We used the buffet at lunch times when onboard and it was fine with a good selection but we much preferred Four seasons at night.

I'm sure you've seen in the brochure but there's one formal night a week ( usually the sea day) where everyone gets a bit dressed up and you can have champagne before dinner at the captains cocktail party . The meal that night in the MDR is usually a bit more special and it's the only night when there are two sittings ( you get a card telling you which your on).

We also booked the Bistro a couple of nights ( where you pay a supplement) and it was very good.

I'm sure you'll have a fab time , if you need any more info just ask I'm sure someone will help 😄

  11. Majesty gets our vote.

We really liked the Spirit but the food was dire !

I'm sure we were just unlucky as I've heard others say how good it is but the food on the Majesty in MDR was way ,way better than the Spirit in fact we preferred it to Royal Caribbean food and that was very good.

Liked the pools much more on Majesty too and just the feel of the ship.

Would happily book on either again ( providing food was ok on Spirit) but the Majesty would def be first choice.

Trying P&O next year so be nice to compare [emoji1][emoji1]

  12. We pre booked a taxi, was for six passengers.

I booked it on the internet and during the days before just by chatting to people we could have filled the four spare seats several times over.

We arranged with two other couples to meet us outside the ship ten mins before taxi was due ( was actually a very nice mini bus ) and I'm sure if anyone hadn't arrived we could easily have found replacements as passengers got off.

When the driver arrived he held up our names.

Apparently at that port taxis can only come to the ship if they have proof they have been pre booked.

Worked out really cheap ( sorry was two years ago so can't remember exactly but €15 each way seems to ring a bell!) when divided between three couples was great .

The driver dropped us in central Brugge and collected us from the same spot at agreed time later that day
