Here are some photos from the MCT Pier 88 area, should help ... very easy with traffic lights to safely cross wide 12th Ave. Looking at the corner of W.48th St & 12th Ave. from different angles - giant elevators & escalators will going up & down to level 2 for embarkation.  You can't possibly miss seeing the GA walking toward the Hudson River and Pier 90 is right next berth over.

Thank you, we did walk the area today and noticed all the large gates that were closed..I'm assuming they will be open tomorrow.

go to 48th street and twelfth avenue and just walk across the street. there will be porter(s) to take your bags, then head up in the elevator.

We are staying on 48th..just up the street from pier 88. Hopefully that's the the ship will be at. Otherwise I may have to walk 5 minutes farther. LOL

We have done that several times.  Both the Holiday Inn Express and the Comfort Inn on 48th are just a couple of blocks from the terminal, and the walk is slightly downhill all the way.  Each is fairly inexpensive, offers a breakfast buffet, and are close to Times Square and many nice restaurants.  Easy peasy.

Thank You. We are actually staying at the Holiday Inn Express. Glad to firm that it is close.

Usually 88, if that is being used 90 right next door.

Does it matter?  There is no way you (or your taxi or Uber driver) can miss the ship as you approach.

The only reason I asked was because we are staying in the city the night before at a hotel on 48th and were considering walking to the pier since 48th ends right at pier 88 and we will only be 1 block up.

NCL usually runs a free ferry to St. George. From there, you can grab the bus or a taxi to the caves. If the ferry isn't running or if the schedule isn't conducive to a visit to the caves, you could always take the public ferry to Hamilton and then take a taxi or bus to the caves from Hamilton.

    Thank you!

  6. I can't remember where I read it but I could swear I read something about the ships tenders being used as shuttles to either Hamilton or St. George. Can anyone confirm this for me or did I misread something?

We'll be in Bermuda on Sunday 2/18 and I'm thinking about going to Crystal caves on our own since the excursions are sold out. From what I've read the caves are closer to St George than Hamilton but the Island's ferry only runs to Hamilton during the winter months. I was thinking if I read correctly and the ship does run launches to St George I'd be able to save a little time since we are only in port from 9-4.

Has anyone else gone to Crystal caves on your own? How did you get there and how long did it take. My concerns are making sure I'm back to the ship in time.

    Thanks

  7. I was just scrolling through the dining options for our February cruise on Getaway and noticed there were options to select date and times for dinners in Savor, Taste and Tropicana main dining rooms. I was under the assumption that we could go to the main dining rooms at any time we wanted and not have to make reservations.

Can someone please clarify if reservations need to be made for the main dining rooms or if we can do walk in at our convenience.

I'm only asking about the main dining rooms. Not speciality dining.

    Thanks.

We took the Ferry to Hamilton and a bus to the crystal caves.. Transportation pass covers both.  Schedule is on line.  Cave tour was about 20 minutes.  February is the off season so book an excursion if offered. They also rent a twizzy at the dockyard.

Thanks for the information. I have to ask, what's a twizzy?

  9. We'll be in Bermuda on the Getaway in February and we're interested in making a private excursion to the Crystal caves from the Dockyard. Does anyone know if this is an easy trip to make within the 9-4 window the ship will be in port? What's the best way to get to the caves?

    Thanks

  11. I understand that Puerto Plata has 2 cruise ship ports. We will be sailing on the NCL Getaway 2/16-2/26 and will be in Puerto Plata on the 23rd but have no idea which port we will be arriving at. We are interested in the pool/lazy river area at Taino Bay but have heard it gets very busy when there are multiple cruise ships in town.

according to Cruisedig, there will be 4 ships arriving in Puerto Plata on the 23rd but it does not specify whether they will be docking in Taino Bay or Amber cove. Does anyone know of a way to find this information?

    Thanks

MCT can be hit or miss. Line up early, carry your bags, when you get to customs, get a porter, who will place your bags on a cart and take you though a short line, and bring your bags where you want (give a nice tip).

Where will I find the porters?

    What is MCT?

Yes, you can take your own luggage off ship.  However, depending on which ship you are sailing, it could be a long slow process.  Lots of passengers could be doing the same thing, then the line moves very slowly.

I would book the 1 P. M. just in case something goes wrong, like the ship docking late and the disembarking process is slowed for some reason.

The ship will be Getaway in February. I guess we'll either have to wait in that line or wait in line at customs for our bags. Either way there will be a wait.

I did book the later bus but can change it if we can make it to the station early enough.

I was just trying to figure out which way would get me to the busy station faster but I guess there is no definitive answer.

    Thanks for the input.
