"One of the main reason that the guests are quarantined in their cabins most of the day, is that the AC in cabins is not shared or recirculated.  There are two AC systems on the ship.  One takes outside air, cools it, and supplies it to the cabins, in a one way flow.  This fresh air supplied to the cabins is almost balanced by the bathroom exhaust which takes the air to the outside, in a one way flow.  The fresh air supply is slightly greater than the exhaust to keep the cabin at a slight positive pressure relative to the outside, and to the passageway outside the cabin.  The AC controlled by the cabin thermostat is air within the cabin, that is recirculated within the cabin, passing over the individual cabin's cooler."

So why are they now taping up the air vents outside each room. i don't buy the air con is not part of the problem.

Answer what questions? This was an unprecedented situation with a new disease, and while lots of people here have spoken confidently about how things should have been done differently, most of those people aren't even in agreement with each other about the specifics.

And for the spooky 'we'll never know how many are dead in China' stuff, it's 2020, everyone has a cellphone and an online presence, and it's actually quite difficult to hide the fact of hundreds or thousands of dead bodies lying around.

What questions? Are you serious? Questions about the poor decisions made by "experts" about air pollution, food delivery, contact with staff and other members of the public, screening, I could go on and on.

So many bad decisions. I know, monday morning quarterback is easy etc. David and Sally's room to hallway vent was only taped up THIS MORNING, a bit late don't you think?

  3. Can anyone involved make a good decision? Are they all imbeciles?

You cannot let anyone off this ship to just roam free wherever they please. 324 have proved positive in the LAST FOUR DAYS. Quarantine has NOT worked.

This is a recipe for disaster in all countries when these people make their way to their respective countries. They must all now go to isolation in a proper quarantined place for a further 14 days without the kind of appalling  interactions they have had on the ship. That was a complete waste of everybody's time on the ship obviously.

  4. As is now proven beyond reasonable doubt, the thing on the ship is spreading like wild fire.

There were some pretty bad decisions made early days which with hindsight should have been better thought out.

BUT the Japanese didn't want them ashore for obvious reasons so I see why they were kept on board.

Food prep on onboard, a terrible decision. Letting people out on balconies without masks another bad idea particularly as they slope away with some people in upper ones looking directly down on the ones below in many cases.

I agree that the language barrier is a problem, and we can all agree that the ways to overcome that barrier would solve the problem.  But I am not sure exactly what you mean by "really not acceptable."  What is not acceptable.  It sounds like the barrier is not being addressed either intentionally or by neglect.  The healthcare professionals dealing with this quarantine, many of them volunteers (not getting paid at all), are doing this because they want to help.  Criticizing their possible lack of English fluency (or fluency in any other language) is inappropriate and it is coming from our sense of privilege.

Don't be silly, it is a fundamental necessity for SOMEONE to be on hand to translate conversations. Heck, you could at last resort get a phone translator very easily. There has to be a way to communicate between patient and doctor!

  6. Oh, and a second question, as the two ports in Vietnam have now been changed to "days at sea" AND the change of embarkation port has been changed as well of course. This together then surely is so far away now from the original itinery that it becomes nothing like what was bought and paid for.

I mean, if I go into McDonalds and ask for a quarter pounder and given chicken nuggets then surely that is a "material change" that could be rejected?
