  1. We’ve done the Sushi class twice on two different ships. On each one we made three types of Sushi: one with Ahi tuna, one with shrimp and one with vegetables.

You shouldn’t have to book this too far ahead of time, so stop by Izumi on your first day and see what they say.  They were quick to offer us a 30% discount on the class.

    Thank you for the info.

Will take 4 bottles aboard in our carry-on and see what happens.

We have always taken two bottles of wine in our carry-on. They’ve never checked as to what cabin number those bottles are going to, so I don’t know why you and whoever you’re traveling with couldn’t carry two bottles in each of your carry-ons.

I’ve never tried that, but I can’t see why it wouldn’t work.

  3. We were on the October 5th Mediterranean cruise on Vision of the Seas, then the October 18th Transatlantic.  We went ashore in Barcelona on the turnaround day, but there was apparently some kind of snafu for those who stayed onboard. We got a letter of apology, a bottle of champagne and an offer of a discount for a future cruise.

     Does anyone know what happened?

  4. You get 10,000 points just for getting and using the card once. If you pay for a $2,500 cruise with the card they double that and you earn another 50,000 points. That equals $150 just for using the card for what you were going to buy anyway.

One tip: When the card expires, don't renew it! Re-apply for a NEW card and get another 10,000 points ($100)

  5. We carry two bottles of wine aboard in our carry-on bag. No one is checking how many bottles are going to which cabins, so if two of you went through check-in separately I think you could each get away with taking two bottles aboard.

Interestingly, my two little 99 cent miniatures that were left over from our flight were confiscated, stored, then delivered to our Cabin on the final night. All that trouble for $1.98 worth of booze!

  6. I usually figure it takes about 5 or 6 drinks per day to break even with the cost of the drink package. That sounds like a lot of drinks, but it adds up quickly after trying out the "drink of the day", then a beer or two around the pool, then cocktails on the balcony, wine with dinner, and maybe a cocktail at the show.

Bottled water is also included on the package now (they weren't originally.) We can easily go through 3 or 4 of them per day.

  7. About the only food that isn't included is in the specialty dining rooms (Giovanni's table, etc.) You can eat just about 24 hours a day, either in the dining rooms, the buffet, the Hot Dog shack, Park Café, the pizzeria, etc. It's amazing how many places there are to eat!

You can also order room service at no extra charge - limited menu, but good for snacks, morning coffee, etc. There is a nominal charge for room service late at night (after 11, maybe?) but other than that it's all included. (Do tip the server, though!)

Note that you cannot get drinks delivered by room service through the drink package.

  8. We did a B2B on Allure two years ago. We were able to book the same cabin for both weeks, which made it much easier than having to pack and move everything (though they say the Cabin Steward will help you with that.)

Even on the B2B you'll have to leave the ship after the first cruise, then re-clear through Customs/Immigration. They took us through all of that as a group, then treated us to a nice lunch at Giovanni's Table.

  9. Does anyone know whether Royal Caribbean is showing the World Cup games onboard ships?....Allure specifically

We just got back from the 6/8/14 sailing on the Allure and yes, unfortunately, they were showing the World Cup Soccer on the outdoor screens by the Aqua Theater, as well as in many of the bars and lounges.

    What a racket!

  10.

It's well worth the charge. They will charge any airlines baggage fees to your ship board account. There are a couple of blocks you can check on the form if you are exempt from fees for some reason.]

My wife gets 2 bags free with her USAir Dividend Miles - I assumed we'd lose that benefit if we used the Luggage Valet onboard.

But you're saying we would still get the baggage exemption?

  11. I know you said no boardwalk balcony, but I personally think it's the best room onboard with the best of both worlds - beautiful ocean views + people watching and the feeling that you're part of the fun! I'm extremely sensitive to noise and there was no noise at night after the show in the aqua theater was over. And like another poster wrote, the room is really quiet with the door closed. We watched our favorite parts of the show from our balcony and even got to watch the performers practice. This was our first time without an ocean view balcony and we absolutely loved it! We spent more time on the balcony than ever in the past.

I fully agreed with all of that the first time we had the Boardwalk Balcony overlooking the Aqua Theater. The people-watching and the activities were amazing.

However: We just got back from the 6/8/14 cruise on the Allure. Either I'm just getting old and cranky or they've turned up the volume on everything. The shows were nice, but the outdoor movies and World Cup Soccer coverage on the outdoor screens were just way too noisy.

Ocean Balcony next time for me!
