The P&O directed agency won't cover U.S. citizens. I may be incorrect, but I believe the reason U.S. citizens are exempt from the travel insurance requirement by P&O, is due to P&O only offering one choice. It is illegal in the U.S. to require a citizen to purchase something while only giving one option. You can require insurance, but you have to offer a choice of selections. I thought this may fall under U.S. antitrust law, but a search found that insurance is exempt from that law. I think it just comes down to FREEDOM.

Not entirely true, our Canadian relatives booked a cruise with us through our UK TA, two cruises actually, one with P&O and one with Royal Caribbean.
I'm confused by your response. Did I not state U.S. citizens, not Canadian, or N. American citizens???

I know this is an old thread, but we are in Southampton today and can see P&O's Britannia from our hotel room. As someone living in America, it would be interesting to try this line.
U.S. citizens can not book directly with P&O. You have to book with Vacations To Go.

We are covered.

Out of interest, in case this insurance question pops up again. Does your personal medical insurance cover you for any problems that occur on a cruise; and would that include airfares back home if you were admitted to hospital whilst on your cruise?
That's a very personal question for a public board.

We're all set. Thank you for your concern.

I received a response from my travel agent at Vacations To Go this morning, and he stated;
"Insurance is no longer a requirement for US citizens. The requirement is only for UK citizens so you will not have to worry about it. Before it was a requirement and we had to tell you up front but that is not the case anymore".
Whew, well that answers that.

I'm really in a mess here. Our cruise is less than 3 weeks away, and I can't find a U.S. insurance agency that covers at P&O's high requirements.
Are there any other Americans on here that have traveled with P&O? If so, what insurance company did you use?

Hello,
My husband and I are U.S. residents going on a P&O cruise next month to Norway. Going over last minute information, it appears it might be required for us to purchase travel insurance. It's always been an option for us on U.S. cruise lines, so we're a bit caught off guard with this.
Will we be denied boarding without it?
I attempted to get a quote through a link provided by P&O, but the insurance company will not accept my U.S. postal code, or mobile number.
Is the insurance comp. P&O works with for U.K. residents only?
Thank you in advance for any and all assistance.

Please forgive me if this has been asked before, but does anyone know if it's possible to pay for specialty dining, like the Chef's Table
with onboard credit prior to the cruise?
Thanks in advance.

Yes. It’s only on Iona and only on one night of the cruise. It was fabulous. It often sells out on the day that reservations open though (14 days before the cruise?), so you have to be quick.Great, thank you. Yes, we managed to get a booking.

There are private excursions available - here some examples of Roundtrip Ålesund - Hjørundfjord - Ålesund - and - Hjørundfjord with MS Bruvik.
There might be others. I have no experience with the tours.

This will be our first balcony cabin, and we're going in May. We expect to have to bundle up when on the balcony, but I would expect July and August to be fine for you.
Enjoy your cruise!

I’m also going to look for all the wall art!
Nice. We're booked for a boat excursion, and then afterwards we're taking a local bus to see the 3 Swords in the Stone.

I think you may need to wait until P&O have sorted their web site to get the full story. The 120 days was being bandied about all over facecloth yesterday but some people who had phoned P&O because they couldn't book the restaurants were being told that this was an error caused by the site faults and it was actually still 14/15 days and that those that has booked well in advance would be cancelled?.
I got an email from P&O stating that would honor any bookings people were able to make, even if their cruise is more than 14 days away.

Has anyone here tried the Norway Tester Menu dinner in Epicurean?
What did you think?

Think the jury is still out as to whether bookings were opened in error, or being able to book 120 days in advance is incoming policy but somehow no-one foresaw the battering the booking system would take if they emailed everyone in one go instead of staggering the roll out! 😂
But don't just as many people go online to book every time they open up bookings? And why stagger it out? Wouldn't that give an advantage to some over others?

Just had this email through:
Important information about Dining
We’re writing to you regarding some important information relating to your upcoming cruise.
We’re sorry to inform you that we’ve been experiencing some issues with our dining booking system in My P&O Cruises. If you’ve tried to make any dining reservations that you weren’t able to check out, then we apologise for any confusion caused.
What this means for you
If you have already been successful in making purchases via the dining booking system, then there’s no need for further action – all existing bookings will be honoured. And any new reservations you would like to make will be available for you to book 14 days before your holiday starts.
We will continue to work with our technology teams to address the issue that occurred and endeavour to allow you to make dining reservations sooner. Once this has been resolved, we will of course make you aware.
Please note, our Customer Contact Centre will not be able to share any further information or make any dining reservations over the phone at this time.
We hope this hasn’t caused you too much inconvenience and look forward to welcoming you on board soon for a holiday like never before.I received the same e-mail. Are they saying that normally they wouldn't let us pre-book dining more than 14 days prior to sailing, but there was a glitch in the system, and some were able to pre-book (including myself)? If so, that's quite a break.

Strangely, it's showing on "My Orders", though I never got an email. Also, it shows the order date as Jan. 8, 2024. So strange.

Waiting for email saying, sorry, ignore this and wait for 14days before cruise.
Doubt it. They don't even address it on their social media.

Ditto. I suspect someone has made a big error releasing everything too early!
Ya, I'm 26 days out. I got it in my cart, then when I go to my cart, it's empty.

It finally went through, though I haven't received an email confirmation yet. Guess the site is very active.
I take it back. Even though the site acknowledged my payment went through (after I provided them with a code from my credit card's bank), they later emailed me that the order failed.
I checked my credit card online, and I have two pending charges for the one order.
I'm so frustrated now. Their website says to try later. LATER? You mean after all the time slots have been filled up? Ggggrrrr
How does a US citizen book a P&O cruise?
in P&O Cruises ( UK )

I stand corrected, thank you. Although, I've never had to purchase travel insurance from the aforementioned RCI, Princess or NCL as a requirement.
