  1. We were able to have three visitors board a Holland America ship as our guests whilst in port at Palma two years ago. We provided their passport details in advance to HAL and had to go ashore and bring the guests on board with us. We were advised by HAL that such visits were at the discretion of the Captain but would not be allowed on first or last day of cruise.

Last week we were invited on board Crystal Serenity whilst it was in Edinburgh by American friends as their guests.

I have no experience of the possibility of guests on Celebrity.

    Good luck!

    Anything is possible. :halo:

  2. They are much better able to vet staff and their relatives....and they deserve this perk.

Hope OP can find a nice spot to visit with their friends on shore and interest them in cruising with them someday. There are lots of nice pictures and info available online and in brochures

Entertaining them on board is pretty much a non starter.....Many staff have the day off in port, or to do laundry or sleep...not fair to increase the workload for non-paying guests..

I clearly said I would cover the costs.

  3. This was a set tour for TA’s and staff friends that you somehow got invited to. Nice, but this was an organized tour for TA’s and so on, not friends of passengers.

Yup, call and check directly, but then why ask here with all telling you you can’t? I believe the OP is just checking if its OK and standard to do, and has got the question answered.

OP - hope you can find a great way of being with your friends in port.

In the Navy, well before 911, I’d meet couples in foreign ports and then escort them on a tour of my carrier; great way of meeting locals......and getting invited to their home for local foods!

    Yes I think it’s pretty clear 🙈

  4. Celebrity is removing itself from being a line I was striving to sail on again. I preferred their older Millennium-class ships for more exotic cruises because they had the elegance of yesteryear. All this rush for modern looking garbage is non-sense. If you look at it, the rooms functioned just as they should. What does sprucing them up going to do besides the paneling on the walls needing some replacing from years of dings and dents by passenger usage. The dining room renderings for the Millennium class ships look dreadfully bright and awful. The nostalgia of cruising is turning into a fashion walk versus what it used to be.

I also don't get where Elites are getting messed out of anything but I'm not one so can't comment on that. If they want to modernize the suite life, that's fine but eliminating the old steamer dining venues was a big mistake IMHO. Cruisers should value and cherish where the roots of today's modern day gigantic ships came from. With this modernization, Celebrity should modernize their dress codes because formal nights go with elegant decor, not contemporary garbage. Just my two cents...

    I think they look amazing.

  5. Other than the initial investment, the arcade costs them nothing. Whatever they get from them is profit.I, too, wonder why the OP would be so upset with them.Sounds like the OP just wanted his ( hers) moment in the sun with this rant.

It’s not a rant. I just think the space could be used for something more modern. I don’t know anyone that plays arcades these days.

I’m 26 so it’s coming from a youngish persons perspective.

  6. For us No. no real loungers, a lot of folks gawking, if weather isn’t great you just blew $250- rained off and on the day we had reserved.

I don’t see the real value in them.

If they included food then maybe...

If you buy a table at a beach club it normally includes food/drink.

  7. Agree, as a simple no thank you is sufficient. We got the drinks package as a deal when we booked, but I have seen posts with people complaining they are approached about drinks packages when they set foot on the ship...

With more and more economical pressures on the cruise lines, you can’t really blame them for trying to up sell things!

Totally agree. Lucky in this economic climate to be performing so well.

Look at how many companies (in the UK) are struggling.

  8. I met a woman in Michael's Club who introduced herself as "I'm Jan*, in the penthouse."

Also wrote "penthouse" next to her name on the e-mail sheet circulating for those that wished to keep in touch.

Needless to say, she was a real character.

    *not her real name

    It’s like buying a privilege...

The next stage is for her to become a Lady. Lady Jan for her services to the cruise industry.
