  1. I know that you have to tender to get to Princess Cays, however is the tender wheelchair accessible like the one at Half Moon Cay? My wife is full-time in a wheelchair and really enjoyed visiting HMC and we booked another cruise but Carnival switched it to Princess Cays. Anyone who has been there please let us know if she will be able to visit this new island.

  3. I'm happy with the serenity deck. The Spirit Class the aft pool is the serenity deck. Does this mean kids are welcome on the serenity deck? A little confusing.

The Spirit class ships have Serenity area with a small pool. Those ships were not affected by Carnival's decision. The aft pool, because it's part of serenity, always was adults only.

  4. From the overwhelming response they received maybe partially from here, but also from the many emails, FB posts, and phone calls, their policy of making the Aft pools family friendly all the time has been reversed.

It seems that most people want to have an adults only pool, even those who have kids with them on the cruise.

  5. NCL Escape 7 day E. Caribbean from Miami, 9/9/17. Solo rates, all gty, no perks offered.

    $449 Inside

    $549 OV

    $649 Balcony

Of course, this is storm season and "Irma" is hanging out there. Possible this will be changed to a W. Caribbean route. Still a bit early to tell.

I am on this cruise. Don't matter to me which itinerary we do as long as we set sail on time and avoid the stormy weather.

  6. When I book with NCL in Canadian dollars, the pricing is based on the exchange rate at that time. So when I make the deposit it's based on the exchange rate at that time but when I make my final payment several months later, or purchase excursions, dining package, etc. The exchange rate may be different and that's what I pay then.

  7. Well, many would not be unruly, but some 12-yr olds certainly could be.

Carnival HAS established a precedent for using age 12 as a cutoff -- in the Havana area on Vista -- so who knows? Maybe they could change their policy to allow "Mature-acting children ages 12 and up." :)

College students & young adults 21+ can also get unruly. Perhaps it should be mature and acting persons 12 and up. LOL [emoji23]

  8. Same here! Although I'm new to cruising I'm hooked. My Dh has a fear also. He won't do it at all. I cruise with my MIL. And if she can't come, I have no problem going solo. I'm like that anyway. Movies, restaurants etc, I can go alone.

The post you quoted is from a while ago. Since then, my wife has been on a couple of cruises with me. After the first one she said "Now I understand why you're so cruise crazy!" She doesn't like cruising as much as I do but at least she's overcome her fear of floating.

  9. I'm retired, DH is not. He is also not that thrilled with cruising. He goes with me every now and then. I use to cruise with my daughter, but now she's all grown up and married. I have cruised solo 5 times and I am watching for a good deal for a 6th solo. I hadn't even considered cruising solo until meeting a woman that cruises solo all the time. I quizzed her. She dared me. I am so glad she pushed me to try it. There is a difference between cruising 'solo' and cruising as a 'single'. I've cruised solo on Royal, Celebrity, MSC, and Oceania. My favorites are Celebrity and Oceania. I am looking forward to #6.

On my second cruise (a long time ago- before my wife agreed to cruise with me) I did learn the hard way there is a difference between cruising solo and cruising single. I met a very nice woman who I liked hanging out with and we enjoyed each other's company until she wanted to do what single people do. I had to put on the brakes. (It wasn't really her fault. I didn't actually say I was married because I didn't want to scare off my new "friend"). Now, when I cruise solo (which I still do occasionally), I make it very clear, in the beginning, when I meet someone that I am married. Some women become disinterested and some more relaxed.

  10. I've done a few solo cruises and have often met other solo cruisers who are married and cruising without their spouses. If my ex and I hadn't divorced, I would be a solo cruiser most of the time as he felt cruising was just "okay" and wasn't in love with it like I am. I don't think it's all that unusual among solo cruisers.

I discovered cruising after I split up with my ex. She would never have allowed me to cruise or take any vacation without her. (Maybe that's part of the reason she's my "ex"). I am now very happily married to a woman who is OK with me cruising solo (and sometimes we cruise together) because I love cruising more than she does and have more time off work than her.

  11. I am 34 days away from my first Escape cruise on Sept. 9th. I have "broken away" a few times and have made one "getaway" but this is my first "escape". LOL. Anyone else Escaping Solo on September 9th?

  12. I call it the best of both worlds. I enjoy sharing my life with a spouse. But being on my own for cruise vacations, without catering to please anyone else, is a good thing for me.

I can't agree more. My wife finally does enjoy cruising with me and we have enjoyed a few cruises together. But for the first 5 years since my first cruise (it was love at first cruise) I cruised solo. Now we do a cruise together each year and I get to do one solo.

  13. Pride is the only Spirit class ship to have the outdoor screen.

I didn't know that. I was on the Miracle once when it cruised from New York (long time ago) and couldn't remember. The Pride is now my favourite ship (for good reason).

  14. I discovered cruising in 2005 and went on about eight solo cruises before my wife agreed to go on one. At the end of that cruise she said "I see now why you're so cruise crazy". We have been on 4 cruises together so far. In 2017 we have two cruises together and I get one solo cruise.

  15. For those who have previously gone solo on a cruise, what did you enjoy and did you meet others who were solo? It would be nice to meet up with others but not sure how to. Looking forward to my cruise but also want to make sure i have a great time.

Cruising August 13 out of New Orleans! the countdown has begun

There are always some solo cruisers on every cruise. Which cruise line or ship are you sailing?

  16. Going on my 3rd cruise in 12 days (deposit down for my 4th on Splendor 2018) so I'm a newbie, but I was looking forward to the adult only pool area and may have to reconsider. I teach kinder and need a little peace when school is out.

You may wish to switch the Splendour cruise for one on the Miracle while it is still on the West Coast. It has an adult only aft pool in Serenity.

  17. I wouldn't pay that! Go ahead and leave her with one of the grandparents and then you'll have an even better honeymoon, while saving money!

I actually agree with you. But they have decided they would want their daughter to be with them. It's their decision and it should be respected by their fellow cruisers. I'm sure that if the baby acts up & cries they will respond appropriately. So what's the big deal?

  18. So to put it bluntly after all these comments me and my wife to be will be on a cruise!! As it's our honeymoon we will be going on a celebrity cruise in September and we will be taking our pride and joy, our little girl. Yes I have paid for her and if people don't like it tough!!!!!! My little princess will see the world diffenrtly and maybe next year we might take her somewhere different. But for this year if you don't like it come and chat to me!! Enjoy cruisers I will[emoji106]

Good for you! Do the cruise as you wish. It's your vacation. It's totally up to you if you decide to bring your "pride and joy" on the cruise with you. As long as you're paying for her nobody has the right to object. Enjoy your vacation!

  19. Solo 1st time cruiser. NCL Escape November 4, 2017. Like to hear from others

NCL is a great cruise line for Solos. Haven't been on the Escape (doing that in September) but I have been on Breakaway and Getaway. Whether or not you're staying in a studio cabin, all solos are welcome at the Solo cruiser get-together at about 6 PM. I strongly recommend you go and meet the other Solos on board. You can arrange to do dinner together as a group, as well as attend the theater productions. A crew member acting as Solo Coordinator is assigned to help make it happen.

  20. It is as meaningful as the claim of "unfairness".

Totally confusing! Time to put this thread to rest. As it turns out, Holland America did the right thing. But in the end I was forced to cancel my cruise because of health issues affecting my travel mates which caused them to cancel.

    Can't wait!!!

I'm going to be on the Escape the week before you, September 9-16. I am staying in a mini mini mini mini mini suite (otherwise known as a studio)

  22. First-time cruise, Bliss to Alaska 6/21/18 Single female 61 ... looking forward to trying cruising :)

You certainly chose a very nice ship and itinerary for your first cruise.

  23. You still have to go collect it.

Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk

Yes, that's right. You still have to collect it the last morning of the cruise. However if Carnival notes that most of the liquor collected that morning comes from port merchants it sends them the message that people are not happy with Carnival for not delivering it to their rooms.
