  1. Now that sounds disappointing :(. We've just purchased the premium package for 2 weeks. I was expecting trying all the wines that are listed available by the glass. I don't suppose you have a list of the available wines?

Rest of it sounds great though)

No, unfortunately not. I'm sure someone here must have it.

We paid for our beverage packages a couple of months prior to the cruise,

and in retrospect I should have found out exactly which wines-by-the-glass were available prior to buying it.

You might find that you really enjoy most of the "by-the-glass" wines available, and therefore its not an issue. Good luck. :)

...I would definitely get the Premium alcohol package again, but anyone getting it mainly for the wine should be aware of the potential drawbacks.

    Exactly. ;)

  2. We were just on the Celebrity Summit with our friends C&F, and Feelin_Nauti (above).

We had a great cruise, and will definitely sail Celebrity again. :)

I just thought I'd offer our take on the Premium Package, and the ONLY reason we won't be taking it again.

We DID like the convenience of ordering anything we wanted and just presenting our card without having to sign. And the worry-free aspect of it.

We like Grapefruit Juice at breakfast, and sometimes order two glasses each.

On RCI and Princess this was usually an inconvenience to the wait staff in the buffet.

With our package we ordered not just Grapefruit juice, but FRESH SQUEEZED grapefruit juice. What a treat!! (and at $4.00 a glass, the package was a real savings).

During the afternoons we would order beers, any we wished, and that was fine too. Maybe a Bloody Caesar before-dinner cocktail.

Also getting off the ship at port each morning we would just flash our card for a nice ice cold bottle of water.

If we looked at it strictly from a dollar standpoint, we probably broke about even.

The problem? -The wine selection at dinner. :(

We both enjoy Italian wines, in particular heavy reds, such as Valpolicella.

The Red wine selection by the bottle is very good. No argument.

The Red wine selection by the glass is very poor - Limited in fact to only 8 choices:

    3 or 4 California, 1 French, 1 Italian, and 2 or 3 others.

DW tried the Italian, didn't care for it and settled for the French. I stayed with the Italian.

And that was our only choice for the week. :(

So, that is the only reason we won't do the package again. Our recommendation would be to make any bottle available by the glass.

(that didn't exceed the $12.00 per glass limit)

Especially since we always drink an entire 750 ml bottle during the course of dinner.

Or at the minimum, increase the offerings of wines-by-the-glass, and include more Italian.

  3. To all Canadian cruisers. Especially those of you with medical conditions and those over 55. Who do you use for your medical coverage when out of the country?

    1) The insurance provided by the major banks?

    2) Independent providers such as

    a) Primelink b) Primelink underwriters c) Travel Underwiters d) Travel and health care Solutions ( ETFS ) e) TIC f) Travel Guard canada G) CAA H) Sears , there are probably others.

    3) do you take the chance and use the American policies even though the coverage limits are very low and there is little in the way of dispute resolution available to Canadians?

    4) Emergency Evac companies such as MedJet Assist, there are probably lots of others. They get you home but don't pay for treatment.

    5) How many of you have read and understand the Pre-Existing Condition clauses and stability period requirements? There is a significant difference between these companies in this area.

    6) what has been your claim experience?

Almost all of the advice on this board is for Americans which is no surprise since mostly Americans use it. Lets add some Canadian flavor and help each other on this important issue.

We have used RBC for several of our cruises, and Travelguard.ca for the rest.

When we buy the insurance we always get the most we can, and cover 100% of the total cost of the holiday.

We have only had to use insurance one time. On our Panama cruise a couple of years ago.

I can't remember how the disbursements went, since my DW looked after it all.

I'll ask her tonight and post again.

  4. There appear to be more than the regular number of dress code threads at the moment, and, as usual, some of them are a little heated. One of the issues that comes up regularly has me wondering....

Why do some men hate wearing suits? Why would men rather wear sports jackets than suit jackets?

My husband tells me that his suits are as comfortable as a sports jacket and slacks. But he says he hates wearing a tie, and if given a chance, will wear a thin silk crewneck sweater/tee with his suit. (He looks very smart in this). There is no question that he looks "more dressed up" in the suit, even sans tie, than in the sports jacket.

I am honestly quite perplexed as to why so many of the recent cruisers who are new to Celebrity object to wearing suits? (or why their SO's are objecting on their behalf).

A suit jacket and matching slacks don't weigh more than a sports jacket and slacks. They don't take up any more room in the suitcase. A smart casual shirt can be worn as easily with suit trousers as with dress slacks (for double-duty on smart casual evenings).

I don't want to debate anything...I'd just like to hear why some men are objecting to wearing suits?

I wish I could help you but I don't really understand the problem either. :o

While I don't have to wear a suit and tie to work (we are "smart casual" at work), so I probably have to dress up maybe 2 or 3 times a year at most.

My suit, pants and shirts are tailored to fit - therefore, they don't pinch my neck, the tie is comfortable, and the venues are air-conditioned - so whats the problem?

My DW always brings at least two gowns, and wears nice dresses the rest of the time, so I have to bring a large hardshell garment case anyway. This becomes our "formal wear" case.

If I decided to not bring a suit, I would probably just rent the formal wear.

I did this on our first cruise, and it worked out well. They even supply the shoes.

We like the formal aspect of the cruise. Perhaps we are in the minority now, I don't know.
