  1. We will be boarding her on September 13th. I really enjoyed your review. We have planned a surprise cruise for my husband and brother in law along with our kids. It was helpful to read the review as we are now in the "nervous" part of the plan, wondering if we can really pull this off!

  2. To Rhonda and Dale. I too am 60 years old with a metabolism that is a really slug-bug! I find I have had to cut way back on the carbs. The weeks I do the best have the least in simple carbs. Weigh in is Thursday and I have had 3 weeks in a row of good losses. I hope week 4 won't stop the good run.

  3. We are going there in a couple of weeks so I have done some research. It is primarily a beach island. There is a large poo right on the beach with an upbeat party type atmosphere. It is called Maragritaville. There is no charge to use the pool, loungers and such. I have seen conflicting rrports about the snorkeling - some say terific, others say not that great. Apparently there is not much to see/do away from the beach. There is an area regularly visited by stingrays. You can get san excursion there. The water is pretty shallow, you canstand up there and it is pretty close to the shore. Check on the Grand Turk board for more info.

  4. Checking in. A small reminder that life is short and can change in an instant. We brought my mom to the hospital 2 days ago for stomach pain. Since then she developed some heart problems and seems to be slipping away. DS and I getting weighed today didn't make the cut. We are not getting in much nutrition but staying at the hhopsital with diet soda and fruit when we can make ourselves eat. Will keep you posted. One request - please hug your loved ones today, life is short.

  5. I have always said I am "5 feet tall" but a recent measurement n the doctor's office revealed 5feet 1 inch. Every time I look at the WW goal chart I wish I was 5' 6" lol. I need to lose at least 10 more before I can look at goal setting. Everyone is doing so well, we should be very proud. Hockeyluvr, glad your mom is better. Have a terrific cruise and we'll be looking forward to seeing you back!

  6. I think the thing that helped me most on my last cruise was to have a plan in my head in advance of getting on board. I had ideas in my head of what great choices I could make that I would also enjoy. This was things like fresh fruit I didn't have to wash and cut. I made a salad everyday at lunch and I never had to wash or cut any of the fixin's. We ate no bread at dinner and shared a baked potato with our main dish. But the key is getting a plan in mind ahead of time. I enjoyed ice cream once daily and kept very busy. I gained 3 pounds in 11 days. For most of us, cruising is only 2-3 weeks per year. Getting on board with a strategy ahead of time is the best strategy.

  7. I am a Thursday weigh in girl too. So far I have just been lurking your posts but getting great inspiration. I hope you don't mind if I "join". Lost 1.5 this week. After being on prednisone, I struggled with small, undeserved gains the previous 2 weeks so I was relieved to have a nice loss. I had slacked off on tracking and have gone back to it using e-tools. It is keeping me more focused. Ate out tonight and skipped all bread - yea for me. Hope you all have a terrific weekend!

  8. MJC, hope this helps. When you get off the tender, keep to the left. That is the area that is most active. A short walk down the beach, you will see an observation deck which juts out over the water. That is pretty much reef in that part of the beach. You enter from the beach along the platform. It is a very short swim toward the reef area. It always has a ton of fish as they feed them from the platform. You won't have any trouble finding it.

    Enjoy!

  9. After about 15 cruises, we tried our first specialty restaurant last March on the Equinox. We went to the Tuscan Grille. We only did it because we had a ton of obc. Our group of 4 found it quite enjoyable. The location in the aft of the ship was lovely to watch the sunset at dinner. The food was wonderful and the service was terrific. Having said that, it is a bunch of money to spend and unless we again have a ton of obc, it isn't something we would do every cruise.

  10. A couple weeks ago, the WW meeting topic was called "BLT" and it stands for "bite, lick and taste". It was really about tracking every bite, lick and taste. This helps me a bit. I can be a bit of a picker, sometimes picking at fat free pringles but forgetting to count them. I try to keep cut up fruit ready for any "picking" needs.

Hope you keep up the struggle. When do you leave on your cruise?

  11. You are right across the river from me, I think. I live in Washington, MI.

I hope you are hanging in there with WW. There is a bit of a learning curve so don't be too hard on yourself. I think the most important thing to do you have already done - getting started! Now, I recommend that you track everything, and look up foods frequently. After awhile, you will find a pattern that works for you. Some staple food that work for me are: egg substitute, turkey bacon, light bread and chicken. With those items I can add lean protein and veggies to make a ton of meals. You can always e-mail me directly if there is anything I can do to help or answer questions. Good job for getting started!

  12. The woman who dresses to fit in with others but carries herself with self-confidence is the woman with class and who will stand out for that, rather than just standing out.

This is a cruise, not a meeting with the queen! By all means, wear the head piece and revel in the fact that you have the self-confidence to pull it off and a husband who support you! And by the way, I am 60 years old and I admire the op - you go for it girl!

  13. Debbie,

You might try using water and then 1/2 water and 1/2 of a 2 point yogurt. That would give it a little more substance. I used to use the Whey protein with water several years ago when I was trying to recover from surgery. It was the only way I could get in enough protein for healing. After a day or 2 I didn't mind the taste. I do think I sweetened it a little though.

  14. Congratulations on joining WW. I have been doing it for 1 year. It is not the first time I have "dieted" and not the first time I have lost weight. WW is designed as a life-style, not a diet. think of it as a living choice. It has been quite slow. I am 60 years old and it has taken me 1 year to lose 49 pounds. If I hadn't joined WW, that year would still be gone but I would also still have that 49 pounds plus a few more to keep them company! lol

First - As far as getting in all your points, this can be pretty important. Are there some high-point foods that you love? How about cheese and dairy? These can be high point as well as high reward for satisfaction and nutrition. Breads, especially whole grain breads can also fall into that category.

Next, track - track-track. Nothing is more important, especially in the early stages. Just the way you are able to now see things you want to change about your water intake, you will see your food issues revealed when you track. Be mindful of everything you put in your mouth and track it. I can mindlessly snack away 5-8 points per day in having "just a bite" of a lot of things.

Lastly, it is so helpful to have a support person who understands your journey. It can be anyone who is supportive of your goals.

Best of luck on your journey!
