We received this notice today about our upcoming cruise.

    Dear Guest:

We have an itinerary change to share with you for our upcoming Ovation of the Seas, May 2nd, 2019 cruise.

We must conduct two separate inspections, the Certificate of Compliance and an annual exam, to comply with U.S. Coast Guard regulations. Both are required by the U.S. government to continue sailing.

In cooperation with the Coast Guard, to minimize impact to your vacation, these exams will be conducted over two sailings: the previous one and this one. The inspections are anticipated to take three consecutive days and we must remain alongside the pier till completion. As a result, we will replace Kailua Kona, Hawaii with additional time in Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii. Unfortunately, we’ll be unable to visit the Napali Coast, but were able to shift the time that we sail past the Kilauea Volcano to a more suitable time. We are sorry for the inconvenience this causes and hope you take advantage of the opportunity to get a taste of Honolulu both during the day and at night.

Additionally, because of this disruption to your holiday, we’re adding a refund in the value of one day of your cruise fare paid to your onboard account during your cruise. You may use this credit anywhere onboard and if you don’t use it, it’ll be refunded back onto your credit card on file. Below, please find our updated itinerary.

They say they will refund us for one day but this actually changes our cruise quite a bit. two stops are gone and we are staying another day in Honolulu but we are already staying there before the trip so we really don;t want another day in Honolulu. The unfotunate thing is that we can no longer cancel our flights or our airbnb's because this notice came so last minute. We are thinking the cruise but we see no way out at this point.

ANy advice at all will be much appreciated.

    Thank you.

With the extra time in Honlulu, a trip to Polynesian Cultural Center is possible!

I completely understand your point, but some people also pay for extras such as dining and beverage packages that are not able to be used due to being sick.  People could complain about these kind of factors then Royal could have a disturbed image, causing them to loose guests.  Royal needs to upkeep a good public image, which is why they compensate.  Therefore, your logic makes complete sense, but the industry adds a business aspect to it, which changes the logic used.

Tis is why people should get insurance. Get verification of quarantine from medical staff and that should be proof for reimbursement of prepaid dining packages and such.

Even certified service dogs are not allowed in chairs or in laps. On a leash on the floor or carried while walking. I made a suggestion once before and got negative feedback. I'll make it again. The ONLY way to stop this entitled charade is to make the reaction to it more of a problem than declining passage to an owner. Stand up in dining and LOUDLY protest. Refuse to be seated anywhere within eyesight of a pet. Get others and flood customer service with the same com[plaint. Schedule an appointment with the hotel director and write down the response for future reference. Remember, the ship may not be able to ask for certification, but passengers can. And there are those, and rightfully so, who feel it would embarrassing to an an actual service dog owner. Don't worry, they are easy to recognize. Not in strollers, not dressed up, not defecating in public places, not barking, not seen alone with different adults, and not being available to be pet. Protest. Be more of a pain to RCCI than they are.

And wearing one of those "service animal" vests.

  4. I think you'll find RCI and Carnival to be more alike than different. Of course, the ship's layouts will be different...but the activities are quite similar! Your children will enjoy the RCI kids club...and on the Oasis class ships, there's PLENTY to do!
We have sailed both cruise lines with our grandchildren. To us, it seems RC's children's program is more structured and the counselors actually do activities with the children instead of just sitting and watching as some of the Carnival seems to have been.

  5. This is my biggest nightmare after reading about it a few times on here. I will be checking, checking, and re-checking that all passports, BC, ID, etc are in our possession before we leave home and before leaving the hotel on the way down to NOLA and then again when leaving the NOLA hotel before embarkation.

We did not get passports for our boys as I didn't see a need and didn't want to spend so much on something that will only last 5 years. I already have their birth certificates in the folder with all cruise documents. One of my son's BC, he was born in 2003, is different from my daughter's and my youngest son's. His BC only has his name, sex, date of birth, county of birth, birth name of mother, and birth name of father on it. The other two have a really detailed BC with all the boxes of ALL info from birth. Is my son's with minimal info on it going to be good enough to board or should I go in and get a copy of it that matches the other two kids'?

The BC of your youngest is alright as long as it is the official copy with the seal.

  6. HUH?

Whether you pre-pay your gratuities or have them added to you bill, there is nothing to give to the crew.

The tips are automatically distributed to the proper people based on the info posted on the RCI site.

ALL wait staff are compensated from the auto gratuities. You do not need to tip in any eating venue, unless you feel you want to, typically based on service above and beyond the normal level.

It is customary to tip in the Specialty restaurants

  7. I assume you mean if you prepaid your tips and gratuity when you paid your final payment. If so, you will get receipts to give to the MDR and cabin staff the day before disembarking. Put them in the proper envelopes provided (with any extra tips you may want to add) ,and give to the wait staff etc the last evening at dinner. Give to Cabin attendants or leave the envelopes in your cabin when you leave. Should you eat at other venues beside MDR, We usually give cash tips at each meal.
I just sailed RCI Liberty of the Seas and did not get receipts to put in the envelopes for my pre-paid gratuities. However, we give some extra to room steward and waiters for an excellent job well done
