Same switch we had in July

The Atla was stuck on the Budapest end and the Jarl Nuremberg. We are cruising into Budapest this morning on the Jarl on an uninterrupted trip from Nuremberg. We were prepared to change if we had to, but it was smooth sailing all the way. Viking did a great job and I love their staff!

Jarl and Atla are sister ships so there is no real difference.

Happy to share. Planning for a good time no matter what Mother Nature has in store. Christmas Markets are beautiful. I’ll post next week.

I’m looking forward to your report of the trip. Since we leave on the Alta on 12/2. I did this same cruise in 2012 and Viking does a great job. I hope you can enjoy your trip. Safe travels.

Well we got the dreaded email today from Viking. No plans to allow this to ruin my vacation.  My friends and I decided to get snacks and wine before we board, so if we get bussed we will make our own party.  It’s a bit disappointing, but try as I might I can’t control the weather. So we will have a good time and roll with whatever happens.

We are set to leave Saturday on the Viking Atla from Nuremberg to Budapest. I can see that the Atla has been in Vienna for a couple of days; I'm assuming its stuck there and that we won't be sailing on the Atla. Husband called Viking yesterday and in the end they said no cancellations; "its in the contract." My husband advised the rep that he thought they had deceptive advertising because there is nothing mentioned about this when booking this very expensive trip. Well, we're going in with low expectations hoping for a great time regardless! On a side note, my son attends college in Malibu. He has been wearing the same set of clothes since last Thursday due to being evacuated from his residence as a result of these catastrophic fires in California. Hoping the evacuation order will be lifted so that he can grab some clean clothes before leaving on the trip. Counting our blessings!!!

Just received an email from Viking about the water levels, indicating that we won't be able to sail between Regensburg and Passau and will be transferred by motorcoach. I looked it up and it's a 1-1/2 hour drive. The email also indicates that is the water levels do not improve, they may need to dock in alternate locations or incorporate hotel stays. Finally, the message says that the river conditions today may be very different than on the day we pass through the affected area. So, we've been warned; praying for rain!!

Shoot, I’ll pray for rain too. Regensburg is lovely. Enjoy!

  6. I was actually trying to find out if anyone had purchased before and if they felt it was worth it. The cost is $30 per day per person which is not a lot. Also, it's not clear to me that if I want a bottle of water, soda or juice in the middle of the day that that is included as free beverages. Looks like only free at meal times with the exception of coffee and tea. A bottle of water is 2.20 euros. Just curious as this is my first river cruise and on ocean cruises everything is extra.
