Howdy. Sailing on the Carnival Sunshine for it's inaugural cruise out of New Orleans next Monday. Traveling with a group of friends. First time out of New Orleans. How far is the port from the airport. I thought I would get a limo to make it extra special for everyone. Does anyone have a suggestion for who to use? Thanks
I've used A Regal Limousine Service before and was quite happy. I treated my hubby and father in law to a super stretch Dec. 2012 for our cruise. I was very pleased and they are located near the airport.

If memory serves me correctly there is a luggage storage service at the terminal. If not and if you are parked at the pier, you can lock your luggage in the car while you enjoy Nawlins for a while. There is a trolley that runs from the pier to the Quarter in case you want to go to Cage Dumonde for breakfast or to mass at St Louis Basilica. Or in case you haven't gained enough weight on cruise one, you can have breakfast at Brennans or The Court of Two Sisters.
Family feud at it's finest. The restaurant is closed and the name is gone from the building.

I have found some great rates and want to book today! Is it safe to be on a 12:55 flight? We would be on the carnival Sunshine. I am guessing all boats have up off them early.
Is the airport only about 30 minutes away?
Thanks in advance!:D
You should make it just fine.

And both are good. I'm more of a Port Of Call girl myself!
If you want to see locals in action, head down to Chalmette to Rocky and Carlo's. It's cafeteria style sort of, but veal parmesan, spagetti and meatballs, po-boy sandwiches(shrimp, oyster, roast beef with gravy, hot sausage) and a plate of baked macaroni with red gravy (tomato sauce to everyone else) are all popular. The sign on the front window is an original from the 60's...."Ladies Welcome". It's a 7 mile straight run down Rampart St. which changes names to St. Claude (goes through the 9th ward) and then changes names to W. St. Bernard Hwy as you enter St. Bernard Parish. Not fancy by a long shot, but stand in line and listen to the locals, you'll know how to order by the time you make it to the counter.
I have that Rocky's window sign wrong...it's "Ladies Invited".

What about Port of Call restaurant on Espalnade Ave and the Clover Grill on Bourbon Street??? Both of those places are on my list to visit

Lemme tell ya dawlin', if ya want real New Orleans go to Liuzza's. You can't get a more character filled neighborhood joint than Liuzza's. A lick your fingers good roast beef po-boy and a frosty beer (or root beer), or onion rings, or shrimp po-boy or panne pork chop with fettuccine alfredo. It's not fancy, but you will get real N.O. family cooking.

I printed them all and thank you so much for you putting them here for us!

I went July 2013 for cave tubing and zip lining at 345# @ 6' tall. I had a fantastic time. Yes, the zip lining is a great deal of work (the climb up the mountain, not the ride). The hike is easy but slippery when wet! If I had it to do over, I would have opted for the longer tubing excursion, since the tour operators deliver you to the drop off site and pick up after. Good news is I am now 292. Lots of work, but worth it.
Which one drops you off at the site? I would have definitely paid more not to have to walk a mile through the jungle. And CONGRATS on your new you!

John,
It was 7 or 8 years ago so it probably was before. Back then you paddled on your on. The woman who panicked was not even with our group. The tour that she was with was 100 yards ahead of us.
We were there in March 2011 and everyones tubes were tied together. The only problem we had was one of our guys' tube was punctured by a branch and they just threw him another tube to put on top of the deflated one. It worked just fine.

I was just wondering if anyone has gone tubing and been overweight. I don't mean just a little overweight, I'm specifically looking for anyone over 300 lbs that might have gone and your review of it.
Were you able to do the walk into the tubing area, did your butt drag the ground, etc. etc.
I would really appreciate any information. I am cruising with a group of friends and this is the only excursion I don't know if i'm going to be able to do because of my weight.
My DH is 6'5" and 280. We did the cave tubing and everyone's butt hit bottom on occasion. The water was low in spots when we were there. He had no problem with the zip line either. So, have a great time.

Here's a solution... move to a city with a cruise port. Works for me!

The Superbowl being here in February is doing amazing things. The new street car line coming from the train station (which is 3 blocks fom the Superdome) will go to Canal St., from there you can take the Canal St. street car to the edge of the French Quarter. It should be done in the next month, so it will be in full swing by the time of our cruise.

Hello everyone, just checking in. Just got back from our land vacay. Originally supposed to go to Destin, Fl., but because of Isaac we decided to stay inland and went to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge, Tn.
Glad you were able to have a nice trip even with Isaac's interference!
We had a bit of roof damage, but spent the worst of it outside Baton Rouge at my son's. Glad to be home and we have electricity!

Hello everyone!
Busy here as well. Leaving for Iceland next week. The daughter of one of bff's is getting married. I don't think I would ever have chosen to go to Iceland, so this is the perfect excuse!
I've almost talked my middle daughter into joining us on the Sunshine:)
That sounds like an exciting trip! Hope you can talk your daughter into joining everyone on the Sunshine. I'm working on my son too.

2funcruzin ~ I just noticed that you live in Bartlett, we live in Millington. We were on the Elation in Jan. and had a great time.
Randy ~ can you please add my husbands name, it's David. Thanks
Love Millington! Bartlett too. Everyone there was soooo nice. My brothers girlfriend works at the base.

We booked with the group through Johna. I'm trying to talk it up here at my office. We have a beautiful view of the cruise ships from our window, so all those that wish they were on a cruise, this is a great opportunity!

Sounds like this is going to be a great group!!
I've suggested my son and his group sign up too!
What are some Hole in the Wall not to miss places to eat?
