  1. We're on New York harbor. So, we have our choice of cruise lines. We haven't sailed Carnival in years. But, tried the Venezia (fun Italian style). We also are considering Carnival again. They have improved! From the gym, in the locker room, they have a sauna and a stress reduction tub and rinse. All quite nice. Service, food and entertainment...all improved.
  2. Enjoy! Just remember that there is also a small steam room in the locker room past the free weights.
  3. Hey gang, we enjoyed the Venezia so much we are taking it again on April 5th! We live on New York harbor. So, we are aware of all the ships sailing from here. This winter, only Venezia and Maraviglia offer "free heat". MSC ("children under 12 sail free"). We have read many poor reviews about MSC. SO, Carnival wins. In May, Liberty OTS returns to Bayonne...still has "free heat". Also, Celebrity includes dry heat on all their older ships. ...not the Edge class. Happy sailing!
  4. Right after Covid, we sailed on the oasis. The only thermal suite was $250 for our cruise. the few heated beds were always occupied and the sauna wasn't working. On the bottom of my receipt, it read "absolutely no refunds" Hey, RCL, bigger is not always better.
  5. Great buffet. Small steam room off the weight room. and a pay single-sex thermal suite. Great service! Enjoy!
  6. Scranton, Honesdale...my kind of people! My gang is originally from Carbondale & Forest City. Our last Venezia was 1/14. next is 4/5. It really is "the fun ship"!
  7. No notice of any requirement. It's just outside the sauna. So, most of the gang drop the towels and take the plunge. When finished, the rinse shower is right there. In one of our ports, we had the MSC ship right next to us and, since the whirlpool tub has a wall of windows, there was a lot of conjecture as to whether the glass was tinted or not. lots a fun!
  8. We did a B to B on the Emerald. Although the deck plan shows it free.......it is gone. They are using the original deck plans. FALSE ADVERTISING!
  9. Different strokes for different folks...We have been sailing for quite some time and enjoy hearing about other persons experiences on different cruise lines and ships. Like everyone on C.C. the thirst for knowledge about which lines and ships are better for individuals...Of course, everyone is an expert...so, take what you hear with a grain of salt. For steam and sauna benefits, there is a (google) list on this topic back a few pages. Welcome to the boards!
  10. We were on the Eurodam when it first came out. Took the spa tour and were told the benefits of there spa (only) AND the price. Then we went to the gym and spoke to the instructor and asked if they had any (free) steam or sauna. He said "yes...just down the hall". We went down the hall and there was a small opening with the sign "men". Inside was a shower, towels, a small bench and a sauna. I guess you might say it was "under advertised".
  11. Our favorites were the Adventure OTS and the Liberty OTS. Liberty OTS returns to Bayonne in May. Anyone know if it will still have the same (free) amenities?
  12. Usually, we wouldn't cruise Carnival. BUT the Venezia was kinda different. The locker room had 12 lockers stuffed into a corner and the only seat sat 2 and was in front of the lockers. (musical chairs?) The sauna was great...hot, hot, hot! And the whirlpool tub was very relaxing. Next to it was a rinse which featured various types of rinse. The spa has a labyrinth of electric doors. Once you get the hang of it, its' okay. A man on our cruise was blind and it was a problem for him...everyone pitched-in to help.
  13. Happy new year, everybody! Safe sailing! We're on the Venezia on Jan. 14th. We have read mixed results.... Wish us luck!😁
  14. Okay, so we see lines removing that "awful word" FREE from just about everything in favor of "kiddy land" rides and slides. RCL and Princess are in the process of eliminating.free saunas. Their excuse is that Covid 19 caused such losses that they need every dollar. Oh, by the way, have you followed their stocks? The big guys are back in the black. Relaxed cruising is being replaced by "thrill" rides. Those of us who have cruised for years to relax are not amused.
  15. We were on the Emerald in Sept. The former "real" steam and sauna have been removed. We're not into "gentle" steam either.
  16. Be careful of deck plans. We did the Emerald Princess recently. The deck plans were not updated. So, when asked before the trip if they had free steam and sauna, they looked at the non-updated plans and said yes...we paid a lot of money and no free steam or sauna.
  17. Yes, we did the Liberty in the Spring. That's what we are used to! With over 40 cruises under our belts, we expect certain amenities It looks like Princess, RCL ,etc.are going the way of amusement parks. Since we do not know when ships will be "updated", and we can't depend on the deck plans, I recommend following the google sheet in our forums. Too bad the cruise lines don't realize that a large amount of cruisers, who have helped build the industry, Now just want to Relax! While it's nice to have a daily schedule of many events, we are past that...just cruise, eat, exercise and sweat.
  18. They have been on notice at least since 9/9/23 about their "false advertising"., both on the ship and to the front office. But since they already have our money, I suspect they don't give a dam..."feel the love".
  19. How many of the older Princess still have the "free" areas? I think all the gang who enjoy these facilities should ask the cruise lines to put it in writing that we will have these facilities...before booking. Maybe the lines will take notice that not everyone wants slides and rides. Mature, retired cruisers are a very large market.
  20. Just a note on the "free steam and sauna": If you use the cruise lines deck plans, they may not be up to date. We just experienced the Emerald Princess where the cruise line stated that there WAS free steam and sauna because they didn't change the plans after a refurbishment. They told us and our agent that the locker room had these amenities. They did not.
  21. Okay, we're going on the Emerald Princess on 9/9/23. We've been on the Crown and the Caribbean in the past. Is the steam and sauna still free? On RCL, this past year, we were on the Adventure and Liberty...free till revamp. Celebrity always gives free sauna on older ships. New ships? Covid has been used as an excuse for making all the usual gym benefits "extra". But, if you check out the stock prices and the increased prices for cruises, they could, at least, throw in the usual benefits of a gym.
  22. Most cruisers try to complete all necessary health protocols before sailing. Bermuda has its health visa ($40).....But, they offer a phone number to check for this visa. The first number given is a local number. If you use that number you will be charged an international fee. That line has a recording which moves you up digitally until you are connected. I called on "Bermuda Day". After waiting for 51 minutes to arrive at #1, I was disconnected. My phone cost for this effort was $358.02. ONLY USE THEIR 800 NUMBER.
