  1. What date must we have either begun a cruise or ended a cruise to use the certificates? I didn't keep my BOA letter on file. I know the date is in January 2010 but not quite sure.

BTW, is there a specific date in December that points will stop accumulating?

It is my understanding that points will accumulate on all charges made and posted through December 31.

Another poster somewhere on this thread spoke with someone at NCL who said the certificates would not have the normal one year expiration. Scroll back and look for the details....

  2. I have used AE Blue cash card for quite a while, and it is one of the better programs available. The best places to use it are gas stations, grocery stores, and drug stores. Use it anywhere else and it is no better than anyone else's program.

One psychological drawback for me is that I automaticaly receive a credit to my account, for my points, once a year. Unless I look carefully at my statement I don't even notice it. Even though my credit one year was over $900, it just got lost in my credits and debits that month. Even if I earn the same amount on my Blue Cash card as my NCL card, psychologicaly, it is not the same as getting a free cruise.

I understand this psychology completely!!!! This is why I keep searching for a really good and flexible card that I can cruise with! The AE Blue Sky seems to allow all this, you earn a point for every dollar and $7,500 is worth $100 of travel credit, as long as you pay for the travel with the AE card.

  3. I liked the NCL Card because a point was worth a dollar as long as you took them out in increments of 500. "Points" or "miles" concern me because all the airlines or cruise lines would have to do is raise the number of points or miles needed for a discounted or free ride.

My thoughts are to go with a decent money back card. In spite of the current financial woes of wall street, I know what a dollar is worth at any point in time.:p

If the card turns out to be a Visa I'll just stop in at Wally World and buy a gift card for my shopping at Sam's. I used to do that with the MasterCard before Sam decided I could use it there. Wally's is right across the street from Sam's where I shop.;)

This is the kind of creative thinking I like!

I am fairly certain that the World Points NCL Mastercard will be just like all the other World Points cards that BOA offers.... Not nearly as good as the "old" card.

I do not like the RCL has their card set up - the rewards are too specific, and are very hard to use without air, if you live in the Northeast. They offer 2-4 day and 7 day rewards and most of thier cruises from NJ are 5 and 9 day....

  4. Well.... American Express is not taken a lot of places here, and I have never had a problem with Discover, other than at physicians' offices. The Discover I have is a cash back card, so I will into the miles/travel option. Of course it sounds like even with a Discover and an AE card, niether of these is particularly helpful when traveling overseas, so I am trying to figure out which Via/MC gives the best cruise value. Any ideas here, or are they all the same? Does anyone know anything about the Sea Miles Visa card. https://www.seamiles.com/public_1.csp?h_url=/public_1.csp I am much more interested in cruise value than anything else, and most of the rating sites go into detail about air miles (which sometimes can be used for cruising but they never explain the value for that). We live near two departure ports, and haven't flown to a cruise in years.

  5. Well.... this is all very disappointing! Just returned from a cruise to Canada on the Jewel, to find this letter in my mail. I was hoping to continue to cruise for free or at least a huge discount for life! Ha! I guess there is no such thing as a free lunch... (or buffet).

Anyone do all the research on these and figure out which is best for those of us who only want to use the points to cruise? I am looking at the Discover Miles card, since American Express is not widely accepted.

  6. We would like to include a horse-drawn carriage ride while in Quebec City in early October, and are considering the following tour. Please comment on whether any of you think this tour is "worth it", or if we should do this on our own. Also, if touring on our own in Quebec City, should we have Canadian currency for the funicular, horse-drawn carriage, etc.?

Old Quebec Walk, Horse & Carriage

    Approximate Duration: 3 hours

    Adult Pricing From: $72

Explore the narrow cobbled lanes and charming alleyways of the lower city on a walking tour. Then ride the funicular to the upper city for a stately tour in a horse and carriage. Place Royale the beautifully restored square in the heart of the Lower Town features superb examples of the17th and 18th century stone architecture that characterizes the city. The site of the Sieur de Champlain's first settlement, the square is home to Notre Dame des Victoires, the oldest stone church still standing in North America. Petit Champlain Street, the pedestrian-only street adjacent to the Place Royale, features boutiques, shops, cafes and restaurants housed in 17th and 18th century buildings. Strolling musicians, jugglers and other street performers abound. Board the funicular for the short ride to the historic, walled Upper Town, home to Dufferin Terrace and Chateau Frontenac. Dufferin Terrace, Quebec's grand promenade, affords panoramic views of the St. Lawrence River, the town of Levis on the opposite bank, the Ile d'Orleans, and the Laurentian Mountains. Chateau Frontenac, Quebec's most recognizable landmark is a palatial hotel, a green-turreted castle built in 1893 by the Canadian Pacific Railway. Franklin Roosevelt, Winston Churchill and MacKenzie King met here to discuss strategy during World War II. Board your elegant carriage in the Place d'Armes and ride through the historic streets of the Upper Town. You pass by the Artists Alley, Notre-Dame Basilica, Seminary of Quebec, Place de l'Hotel de Ville through St.-Louis gate along Grande-Allee to Battlefield Park and back via St.-Louis street.
