This has me very concerned & upset to see how bad the condition of the ship is, as we are leaving tomorrow on our 12 day cruise on the Grandeur. I realized that this was an older ship when I booked our cruise but felt that RCCL has always maintained their ships pretty well, (obviously not this one), but some of these issues don't require a dry dock to make the ship presentable, such as the dust, sheets, towels, thermostats hanging out of the wall and the painting and varnishing. This almost makes me not want to go, but I guess I will try to overlook it and be grateful we are able to get away. Lesson learned today, no more booking on older ships. I will try to remember to comment on our thoughts when we return.

Please let us know your thoughts and experiences.

If you can do without internet on day 1, just use your phone for as long as it works once onboard, then day 2 use your free diamond day, then buy internet onboard for the remaining days of your cruise it may end being cheaper than buying pre cruise for the entire cruise.

Or only use your 4 free days per D+ couple no matter the cruise length. You can still send email and text. They will go when you connect.

We use this. We cut pieces to size depending on size and weight of item.

It also has a self adhesive on the back. The roll will last thru a lot of decorations. Home Depot also carries it. Also on the bigger decorations we put our names on them and use magnetic hooks. It might be hard to see in the pictures, but in the top photo our names are on the cocktail decoration right above the words Hello Summer. Hopefully less likely to be taken. Amazon has a lot of cut cutouts to choose from. Posted info in case someone wants to find stuff.

Sorry Amazon is showing the UK site.

Agreed. But to be fair, they always do this on pre-inaugural and inaugural sailings due to the presence of media and travel partners.

To be fair? Bribe those on free cruise nights with unreasonable expectations of the dining experiences so they media, etc say great things about them? How is that fair to anyone... especially the customer who are paying 🙄

I assure you he will have the best of everything.  Goldens live to please their owners, no matter where or what.  He'll be supremely happy and will love roaming all over CoCoCay.  I applaud them!

How can you? Are you in charge?

You can definitely do that just keep in mind that your room won’t be open until 1 at the earliest.  Dragging around luggage to lunch and your muster station with elevators won’t be a lot of fun.

And you are making an already crowded Windjammer worse.

Do most folks book directly with the hotel or through Booking.com?  In the states I like to book directly with the hotel.  Which is better in Barcelona?

Also, any thoughts on Colon Hotel? We stayed there about 12 years ago.

Hotel website direct for the best rate, free add-ons and pay upon arrival. We stayed at Hotel Lleo in September. Great location and comfortable rooms.

It is not that unusual for people to have issues with MDR seating on MSC when they book the Bella or Fantastica experiences. However, you can book the Aurea experience on MSC and still be paying less than it costs to cruise on Royal Caribbean, although the savings over Royal Caribbean will be much smaller. If you book in Aurea, you can show up in the Aurea MDR without an advance reservation and with as many people as can fit at a table. If you really want the best service, you can often book MSC in the Yacht Club for around the price of a junior suite on Royal.

We found Bella dining in MDR superior to Royals new offerings. And the buffet was great.

Booked my first trip on Liberty of the seas. A 5 night Bermuda from Bayonne. Does anyone know which dinning room menus would be on a 5 night sailing? I have only been on Oasis Class. Any tips with a smaller ship?

We did a 4 night Christmas cruise. Had not cruised that size ship in a couple years, but will look at booking them more often. Excellent staff and ate a good meal in the MDR. WJ was very good. Used d+ bogo at Chops and Giovanni’s + Giovanni lunch. That size ship has everything we need. And we love Giovanni’s vs Jamie's.

I have purchase an annual plan for the past 5 years.  They basically cover you anytime you travel more than 100 miles from home.  I also purchase trip insurance through my travel agent for long trips since the annual insurance doesn't cover over 90 continuous days.  Also annual doesn't cover all of flight costs if the flight is over $1000 per person.  I have felt pretty well covered and can lose a couple of grand if it comes to that.  The largest hazard for us old folks is medical and medical transportation or body return.  You have insurance for major expenses & catastrophic incidents.

    Don

Can you suggest a company for 75 and 77 year olds. We mostly cruise.

Thanks... Will have a second thought on this... In more than 50 cruises all over the world I never had a lack of wifi for more than a few minutes. But never ventured on a TA mainly for this reason...

I am not sure how this is possible.  We also are at about 50 and bad weather can easily knock out wifi for a day or so. Not every cruise but it does happen.

I think the quality of the food has changed for the worse in the MDR, but, I prefer the more casual experience than dressing every night for a 2 + hour dinner, so I'm mixed on an answer to the question.   Everyone says food is subjective, but, I think there is a lot of evidence that they're serving us cheaper food.  (Pork shank instead of veal shank is an obvious example, among many others, like the complete absence of veal, lamb or duck in MDR .)   I don't tend to be nostalgic for too many things from the good old days. I feel mostly positive about life today, with one exception that I'll not bother to get into here.  Like Carly Simon sang, I tend towards "These are the good old days".

    Again, well said!

I have more of a problem/concern with my bags not getting off the plane or on embarkation my bags are mis placed somewhere in left field on my deck.  I've got one of the ugliest looking bags that I can notice it a mile away.🤣

Our last few cruises it seems that the crew doesn't even try to get all your cases in front of your cabin. At least one has been located by walking the entire hallway.

    Hi All,

I called Royal Caribbean last week to add pre-paid gratuities to our reservation before prices go up.  I was told that my travel agent needs to be the one to add it.  I advised them that my agent was out until today. Both the representative and her manager assured me that as long as the sailing is booked prior to 11/11, the original rates will be honored for prepaid gratuities on or after this day.  The new rate would go into effect for sailings on or after 11/11.

I was assured not to worry and to go back Monday for my travel agent to add without there being an issue for the original rates, since my sailing was booked prior to the mentioned date.

My travel agent just tried adding them and it is at the higher rate.  Two different Royal Caribbean agents assured us not to worry and that the old rates would be honored beyond 11/10 for sailings booked.  What should I do since we tried to have these added and relied on the RCL-provided info?  Has anyone else had this issue?  Does anyone know if RCL monitors calls.  This isn't about the $2 pp/day, but rather principal of the complete incorrect and relied on info.

    Thanks so much.

I thought you were boycotting Royal? What should you do, you ask? Be truthful.

I know this is somewhere in this board but can't find it.  We will be on a couple of cruises, b2b, and as D+ we get free wine in our cabin.  Figured we might have some left over.  The last time this happened we were driving home.  The next time this might happen we'll be flying home.  I know there are bags to buy that we can put bottles into in our checked luggage and the wine won't leak or break.  I know people have mentioned specific brands of bags they've bought that have worked.  Looking for suggestions.  Thanks.

We donate unopened bottles to the crew bar through our cabin attendant. $8 wine isn't worth taking up space in our carry ons.
