  1. We were on Edge last November and had a Celebrity Suite.  We normally stay in a Royal Suite on S class ships.  There were no Royals available on Edge for the sailing we booked so we took a Celebrity Suite and were very happy with it.  More than large enough for two people.

We are currently in Day 24 of a suggested “approximate 30 day processing time” for our refund.

Apparently, we may have to re-assess the expected time frame for our refund, based on the number of calls Celebrity must be handling. Surely to goodness, it is not hard to understand that processing efficiency of the refunds suffers when staff are called upon to field “status update” inquiries. Now just think how much that efficiency is reduced when staff are called upon to field multiple inquiries from the same people.
Rather than call Celebrity every name in the book, take their number off of your speed dial and allow them the opportunity to do their jobs, within their originally suggested time frames.

By the way, tomorrow will be our Day 25, and we have not placed a single call to Celebrity about our refund status, nor are we planning on calling, even if it goes slightly past 30 days.

Lighten up... the people on the other end of the line didn’t ask for this. Flexing your muscles on the phone and in print is not helpful.

Randy, since we were on the same sailing that you cancelled, we have received our FCC but they still owe us for the taxes and fees.  Our agent told me it might take 8 weeks to see our refund for that.  I am truly hoping for our November cruise taking place but I will cancel before final payment if things don't get better.

     Positive news:

    https://www.cruiseindustrynews.com/cruise-news/22705-royal-caribbean-brands-expand-cruise-with-confidence-policy-to-sept-1.html

Our cruise is booked for 1st August. There will now be no need to argue with TA, when I next ring, as I now will be able to claim the ‘Cruise with Confidence.’

I rang last week when I realised that Silhouette won’t be coming to Southampton on 17th April. I was told that it was too soon to cancel. I replied that I was not paying for a cruise (on 3rd May) on a ship that might not come to Southampton. I also told her that Gov.UK guidelines say that passengers over 70 should not cruise and Celebrity also want a Drs note before you board.

Her answer to all was, ‘Things will change before August 1st.

Well, thank goodness they have, but not in the way the TA hoped.

I assume she didn’t want me to cancel, thinking about her commission.

BUT, does this mean that she will keep our FCC, or can I demand that it is sent to me?

I used a travel agent for my cruise that was supposed to take place April 11.  I used cruise with confidence and both my husband and I received our fcc in an email from Celebrity.  So I own it not my TA.  I am awaiting the taxes and fees to be reimbursed back to my credit card which I am still waiting for.  Celebrity is a little slow in handing out cash.

  4. We once were on Zenith during a noro virus cruise.  They did not wait until the middle of the night to do the bleach spraying, we walked behind the crew in hazmat suits while they were spraying during the middle of the day. .  We were traveling with friends and none of us got sick while they were cleaning.  We did however have some clothes ruined by leaning on the wet rails in the elevators but Celebrity paid to have our ruined clothes replaced.  Be glad that they are trying their best to keep you safe.  I it bothers you, try putting down a towel by the door to keep the smell out of your cabin.

  5. Okay we are guilty here.  In our garage is a Mercedes 450S and a Porsche 911.  Yes we love suites also.  Our favorite is the Royal Suite.  I should tell you why we have all of this, it is because my husband has worked hard his whole life and now we are in our 70's and we want to spend our money on what we enjoy.  Our kids know that I will not leave them a bill but they have to make their own money just like we did.   We enjoy Celebrity and we sail 3 to 4 times a year.  This is not to say we haven't sailed in every type of cabin over the close to 30 years we have been cruising.  No matter what cabin we have sailed in has always been great on Celebrity.   Sail in what you can afford and enjoy every day at sea.

  6. I too love the suite life.  I enjoy all the perks and love the crew.  Love seeing people we know on the ship who have been making our sailing so pleasurable.   We mostly sail the Caribbean and now the ports don't matter any more.  There is only so many ports they can visit in the Caribbean.  I sail for the service I get from the crew.

    Hi Linda

Edge actually has elevator access to the 16th Deck where the Retreat is located.

When we sailed on Edge in November of this year, we were in an Edge Villa and were asked for our cards for the first 2 days as the staff got to know the passengers. After that, our cards were not necessary. I did see some chits produced for some passengers when we were up there.

I don’t recall us ever having to show our cards in the Retreat Lounge.

    Randy

Randy, remember on Edge we did not have to show our cards because we had to use our cards to open the door to the Retreat Lounge.

Celebrity should send its suite managers on a Yacht Club cruise on MSC.  They really know how to run a suite lounge.  Butlers falling all over themselves to serve you.  Food available all day.  180 degree window wall looking out on the ocean.  Comfortable chairs/couches one can actually sit in.  Afternoon tea is served to you, you are not expected to procure your own.  Lovely live music.  I can easily spend hours in there.  The Retreat Lounge is like a Motel 6 in comparison.  A dark, interior Motel 6.

Linda, the retreat lounge on Edge has plenty of comfortable chairs and couches.  It also has a window wall across both sides of the ship.  It has also an outdoor seating area with plenty of shade if you prefer to sit outside.  Afternoon tea was served to you by the butlers.  Food was available all day.  You could go up and get it yourselves or the wait staff would bring what you like.  They had soft entertainment in there also.  It was quite nice as the singers were never too loud.  You really have to try the Edge, it was a wonderful experience.

It is my understanding that Michael's Club name change happens during the revolution upgrade or downgrade. Depends how you view it. MC has a bar with bar stools. The Edge Retreat does not have a bar. They will come to you. I have heard talk of Celebrity adding a bar in the Retreat Lounge. Maybe it will be like the library that was added to the Edge. See photo. The Retreat is much larger on the Edge and  Luminae is twice as large. You lose that intimate feeling on the Edge.  They added new furniture, but seems like Celebrity forgot to put arms on a lot of the chairs. Arms on chairs must have cost to much.

I was told that there will be a bar on Apex in the retreat lounge.

Some people bring young children on a cruise who prefer to take a bath instead of a shower- perhaps that is why they have a combo.  Nice to have both a walk in shower or a tub.  We had that once on the S class Royal suite!  What a treat that was!!

On the S class we always take a Royal Suite.  I guess I am just spoiled by that room.  Other than the tub in the CS on Edge I was still quite pleased with the cabin.

We did a CS on Edge back in January.  We enjoyed it but wondering if they changed or improved anything?  The shower half door tended to leak on the bathroom floor.  Also do they still have the large rocking chair?  It was removed from sky suites several months ago.

They have changed the shower.  It now has glass across the whole tub with two doors in the middle to get in.  It didn't leak but I still would have preferred it to be just a shower.  The big rocking chair is still there but really did not get in the way.  I thought it was quite comfortable.

Very Interesting.  Wonder where..what deck, etc.  ?

What would they move into its place?

Hope BLU gets a better location and view.  It sits alone next to Tiffany store on the way to EDEN,  and has a terrible view!  There were sev stories about how or why that happened..but  the end result  was a beautiful dining  room with no view and poor acoustics.   Layout  and location of the 4 mdrs was excellent this time around..we enjoyed that area.

The Aft elevators are quite  busy, esp at peak times.  We had the SV so we had to use them quite a bit..but we managed.

    PS   DId you enjoy EDGE?

We enjoyed the Edge very much.  We had the Celebrity suite which was very nice.  So glad that the tub was not so deep that I couldn't get in to take a shower.  I still don't understand why they put in a tub when a nice big shower would have been so much nicer. The suite area was very nice and everything was all in one area.  The service was above par, the ship beautiful and the ports were great.

  13. We just came off Edge on Nov. 24.  We had a Celebrity suite.  Luminaie  was very nice and the food was excellent.  My only complaint is that is was a lot noisier than I remember on the other Celebrity ships.  It is much larger and that may be why it is not so quiet.  The suite lounge was very nice and the pool area and bar was very nice also. We ate at Fine cut which I would recommend highly.  We also ate dinner at the Roof top Grill but I thought it was nothing special.  We ate lunch in the Grand Bistro and enjoyed it so much we ate there twice.  Also we love the sushi restaurant on deck 5.  The ship is really beautiful and enjoy your suite and all it has to offer.

  14. I am in deep shock over this sad news.  I so enjoyed reading all her posts and she would answer everyone's questions with never a remark of "that has been asked before."  She seemed to be everyone's friend here on Cruise Critic.  I know that I will miss her info on Edge and Apex.   My thoughts and prayers go out to her family at this time.

We have been busy speculating and anxiously awaiting for some info. They haven't had any reveals yet and LLP said they were like twins, with a few tweaks. Some of the ideas have been discussed on these threads -  just to give you an idea of what has been discussed to get things started.  🙂

The things we are quite sure about are:

-more windscreens for MC and RTG

-sound shields for restaurants around GP

-frosted glass doors on IV - smaller furniture (already being done on the Edge)

-Retreat Lounge Bar (so one concierge told me way back)

    -likely lots of new art

    Hopes:

-coffee tables - better balcony firniture

-Eden  - ? will have different focus

-maybe Luminae will have some dividers to cut down on noise a bit

    -bathrooms that work in Luminae

-improvement in some chairs around the ship

I'm going with low expectations, but love the Edge so will be happy on the Apex. I am waiting for the Beyond - I think that will be my ship! 🙂

I was told that the Suite restaurant will be moved to the back of Apex.  This way the kitchens will all be in one place.  I think this will make the elevator situation worse for the aft elevators.  We had no problems with the forward elevators never had to wait or was crowded.  Loved the suite lounge and the bar and the pool.  Apex will have a bar in the retreat lounge also.

The ships crew are diligently cleaning the ship in preparation for US inspection.   Grew are opening all the firehouse cabinets and polishing all he connectors.  The staff say starting tonight the have to spend extra hours doing “special cleaning”.

We have already received two emails from Celebrity for our cruise after yours that we should arrive after 12;30 because of immigration for all the crew and passengers on your trip and then the US inspection of the ship.  We have a suite so the shoreside concierge told us there is a special place for suite guests to wait so we will arrive at our original time.  I feel sorry for the crew because the US inspection is very important for all of them.

My reason to pick Edge or Apex as well on #2.  I won't pay the prices they're asking.  On #1, I didn't select either Edge or Apex as those window cabins masquerading as balcony cabins hold no appeal for me.  But I'd try as suite as they allegedly have actual balconies.

Linda, in a few weeks I will be able  to tell you if Edge is worth the bucks to sail on her.  We took a Celebrity suite and it does have a real balcony.  We normally take a Royal Suite but the price was really hard to swallow.  I am not sure I will like this suite but I will give it a try,  Will let you know all about the ship when we get back.  I think I might like it but not sure if I will sail it again.
