We were on the Enchantment in January and made it to Coco Cay. The morning was beautiful. Out of nowhere, a huge storm came and they couldn't get people off the island.

In fact, one tender was stuck for two hours, filled with people, trying to get passengers back on the ship. The "bridge" between the tender and the ship actually fell into the ocean. It was a nightmare. The Coco Cay staff just stood on the beach staring with their mouths open. That was when I knew this was way out of the ordinary.

Panicked passengers ended up waiting in line for 3 hours because they were afraid they weren't going to get back on the ship. (Not us, we spent that time in the bar sipping beverages wondering why everyone was waiting in line.)

But seriously, it got pretty scary. The tender ships were rolling like crazy. At one point, the staff told us it was possible we would be staying the night on the island. I have no idea where. Maybe the cabanas? Sounded kind of exciting but I would have rather been on the ship.

Fortunately, they eventually got everyone back on board safely. The captain made an announcement apologizing. The storm literally came out of nowhere, and they were not expecting such huge waves.

At that moment, I told my husband I would never complain about missing Coco Cay.

We're on the Liberty, same itinerary, end of April.

This is our fourth time in Cozumel in two years. We're going back to Mr. Sancho's -- an all-day beach break with a trampoline water park.

We went to Nachi Cocum last time we were in Cozumel and really enjoyed it. But it is a very quiet place. The kids wanted to go back to Mr. Sanchos because it had more of a lively, upbeat vibe.

We're paying $57 adult/$37 child which includes all you can eat and drink, beach chairs, use of kayak and all-day waterpark passes.

Just wanted to throw out a different option for a beach day ... particularly if you have kids.

And I still have no idea what to do in Belize!! Too many great options.

We've sailed on the Enchantment twice and loved both cruises. I have a trip report with lots of pictures ... check out my signature below.

Children are allowed at Park Cafe. My 10-year-old daughter and I ate lunch there one day. It was delicious. Try the 3-cheese panini. On the Enchantment, Park Cafe is in the Solarium. It is like a counter restaurant. It is not a separate, defined restaurant like on the Allure.

We've stayed at Country Inn & Suites near the port and really liked it. Very clean and comfortable with free shuttle and breakfast. Plus they have these cool family rooms with separate bunk-bed areas for the kids.

We saw several families in the Fort Lauderdale terminal with 12-packs of sodas. They were even enjoying a few of their beverages while they waited for their groups to be called.

Saw this post and immediately booked the Thanksgiving sailing on the Allure. Ocean Balcony for $3800 for the four of us. The KSF promotion even applied to our 16-year-old son. Well, he'll be 17 for that sailing.

I might be in the minority but I'd go for Giovanni's. I thought the food was much better. And the restaurant is romantic. Request a table with Central Park views.

If you go with Chops, ask for a table with lots of privacy. I was surprised on the allure on how close some of the tables are to one another.

Very interesting comparisons. Thank you!! We've sailed Disney, Celebrity and RCI ... and we love all of them.

Interesting about the public areas being crowded. We were on the Allure in July at almost capacity and most of the public areas seemed deserted throughout the cruise. Maybe Royal has learned a few new things about ship layout.

Just sharing that because I don't want you to be scared off of the big ships. The Allure really is amazing.

Park Café is like a little counter sandwich shop. We actually didn't eat there on the Enchantment but ate there every day on the Allure. Because we were on the Enchantment in June, the Solarium got very warm and steamy. So we stuck with the Windjammer for lunch.

We booked a beach day for Nassau this trip ... just in case we don't get to Coco Cay. It's a great deal. It's the British Colonial Hilton within walking distance of the pier. It's $60 per adult but you get $40 back in food and beverage credit. Kids are $30, get $15 in credit. We booked this ourselves. They also have a nice pool. I'll let you know how it is when I get back!

We are leaving Monday for our second Enchantment cruise. To read my review of our first -- with pics -- click on the link in my signature. .

The buffet is open for lunch. I don't believe the MDR is. You can also eat at Park Café located in the solarium (adult-only pool and Jacuzzi area). On our cruise, Park Café opened at noon. Lots of passengers (including me) love their freshly carved roast beef sandwiches and made-to-order salad bar.

I've never done My Time Dining so can't help you with that one.

Like the previous poster said, dress code in Chops is smart casual. My husband wears khakis, a button down shirt and a blazer. No suit, no tie. Try the forest mushroom truffle soup. It's delicious. Our waiter told us it's the captain's absolute favorite dish.

Cabanas on Coco Cay cannot be reserved ahead unless you're in a suite. Your best chance is to board very early and get on the list immediately. We had a cabana on our June trip. Pics are in the review.

We've always brought bottled water and soda on board and never had a problem. We packed it in our suitcases.

You can bring two bottles of wine per cabin. I'm not suggesting you do this but many folks have reported that they brought two per person in separate carry-on bags because security doesn't keep track of who is in which party. Again, I've never done this. Don't want to get flamed.

Couple other suggestions:

• Don't miss Quest. It's a game show for adults, and it's absolutely hilarious.
  
• There are free cocktails at the Captain's Reception.
  
• Pastries in the specialty coffee shop are free; specialty coffees are not.
  
• The Viking Lounge is a great place to relax while you're waiting for your cabin to be ready. Kids are allowed because the bar isn't open.
  

That's all I can think of off hand. Have a WONDERFUL cruise!!

For Coco Cay, suite guests get priority to reserve the cabanas. It's a great deal. $200 for the day ... includes a bottle of champagne, bottled water, fruit plate, two snorkel sets, two floating mats.

I filled up a water bottle with my leftover orange juice from breakfast and made mimosas. Yummy.

I'm disappointed they did away with the party. That was a lot of fun.

Enjoy! We leave on the Enchantment on Monday! Great way to ring in 2014.

That's to bad you encountered a bad week on the Enchantment. I was on her last month on a back-2-back cruise and didn't notice a filthy pool deck area on either of the two cruises. I would chalk it up to a bad week, not a norm.

I would agree wholeheartedly! I told my husband that someone said the Enchantment was "despicable." He was totally floored. Said it must have been the exception because we didn't get that impression at all.

Was glad to find your review and hung on every word. I was on the Enchantment when she repositioned to Florida a couple of months ago. Your praise of the crew and the assessment of Chops was spot on!

 

I was concerned because of the age of the ship but my experience was fantastic and I continue to have special memories of the time and the good fellow passenger and crew that I encountered. Glad you for the most part enjoyed her too. And yeah, the Blairs were great as well.

 

The only thing is we did not make Coco Cay (my third time missing that port). Hope to eventually get to see what the fuss is about.... :)

Sad to say but I returned two weeks ago and NEVER AGAIN on a four night sailing, let alone on Enchantment. But we will always be doing GS from now on.

 

The ship is despicable. Pool decks and pools were filthy. The tub in our GS would not drain. The ship is not in good condition and the service in the MDR was so slow that we were the LAST ones in the dining room the entire cruise. Frustrating! However, the food was outstanding, and the majority of the service and crew were wonderful. The whole cruise felt like a second class cruise and nothing like 7+ nights.

 

Learned my lesson...newer ships, longer itineraries always. I felt bad because this was one of my friend's first cruise and the group kept saying "Well on Allure you have X and X." Can't wait for her to see one of the top ships. Not bashing, LOVE RCL, but was disappointed in the product they delivered this time. Couldn't quite put my finger on it; but it wasn't right.

 

Next up, back to FR or the twins!

Despicable? Wow ... we didn't feel that way at all. We felt the ship was in good condition with the recent upgrades and that the captain and crew work very hard to provide a great experience to the guests.

Either we have much lower standards or perhaps it was that the ship wasn't at capacity when we sailed. Hmmmmm.

Regardless, I'm very sorry you had such a horrible experience and didn't enjoy your cruise. I think you're right to sail only on the newer ships moving forward.

As for us, we're looking forward to our New Year's sailing very much.

So it’s time to disembark. I absolutely despise the last day of the cruise. I’m always in a pissy mood. The cruise that we’ve been looking forward to for so long is over. Ugh. Even though we were off to Disney for two more nights, I still couldn’t shake that gettin'-off-the-ship feeling.

This morning, I was in a worse mood than usual. I got the worst night sleep I’ve ever had on a cruise. I was waking up every half an hour, peering outside to see how close we were to Port Canaveral. I was waking up so often partially because of the anticipation of having to get up early. Second because of the noise outside our cabin.

Our cabin was lovely. But it was also across from the maintenance elevator. So we often heard carts being rolled to and fro throughout the day and night. Normally, I’m a very heavy sleeper. So once I fell asleep, it didn’t bother me. But this night, every little noise woke me up.

I finally got up around 6:45 a.m. After a shower and some last-minute packing, we headed to the MDR. I highly recommend eating breakfast in the MDR on the last day. It’s still busy. But it’s nothing like the insanity of the Windjammer.

As we walked in, I noticed that several members of the staff kept looking over at us. Finally one of the female members walked up to us and told us that Tommy couldn’t come into the dining room. What?!

I looked over and realized he was wearing a tank top and cargo shorts. Doh!! I was so busy with last-minute stuff, that I didn’t even realize what he was wearing.

Even on the last day, they upheld the dress code … as they should.

I'm such a stickler for dress code, that I almost couldn't believe it was MY son who broke the rules. Oh well. :)

So Tommy and I hiked back to the room so he could put on the T-shirt I had laid out the night before. Then we headed back to the MDR to meet back up with Tom and Marissa.

We had a nice breakfast and then went back to the cabin to gather the rest of our things.

It was then time to get off the ship. We stood in line until we got to the area to collect our luggage. Tom waved down a porter. The porter was great. He knew exactly where to go to collect our luggage based on our disembarkation number. (We were in Group 1. I guess because of our suite status.)

Within ten minutes, we had our luggage loaded onto the cart and started walking to the end of the line.

But the porter had other ideas. He got in line in front of another porter and motioned for us to join him.

We felt very awkward cutting in line. VERY awkward.

I understand why the porters do this. The sooner they get back into the terminal, the sooner they can help another family and make more money. So they help each other out. But that didn’t change the fact that I felt awful about it.

Around 15 minutes later, we were outside and loading the bags into our vehicle. We then drove the hour to Disney World to check into the Boardwalk Villas.

I was absolutely thrilled when they let us check in early (10:30 a.m.). We unpacked, walked over to the ESPN sports bar, ate delicious burgers and then went straight back to the room for a two-hour nap.

I’m going to stay on topic and not go into too much detail about Boardwalk. But I think it was my favorite of any Disney resort. I loved being on the Boardwalk. There were so many places to eat and things to do. And we could catch the boat – or walk – to Epcot.

After two pleasant nights at Disney, our vacation was officially over. We drove the 3+ hours back to Fort Lauderdale and I got busy unpacking and doing laundry. Heavy sigh.

We had a wonderful cruise. I really enjoyed the Enchantment and the crew. In fact, we enjoyed it so much that we recently booked the 4-night New Year’s sailing! So we will be welcoming 2014 the best way possible … on a cruise! Anyone want to come along?

I hope you enjoyed the review. I apologize that it took me a little longer than usual to finish. Like I mentioned in a previous post, we’re in the midst of moving to a new house. Things in the Sawyer household have been craaaaazy.

We did our first-ever grand suite last year and loved the space ... we called the balcony our porch ... it was just too grand to simply be called a balcony. I had booked the upgrade without telling my DD. Her shock when she walked in the door was priceless!

 

OK ... so fess up -- how many DOD glasses did you manage to take home? We've collected a fair number over the years and they come out for festive occasions.

We have a collection of 8! We made sure to enjoy one DOTD each day of the cruise. I love our glasses! Thanks for the nice comment about the review. And I completely agree with you about the suite. The extra room was sooo worth it. :)

According to the 4 day Enchantment compass - Dining menu is day 1- mojo, day 2- Saffron, Day 3- Pimiento Doesn't really say what day 4

 

so Sports fanatic is right- there is a mention on page one, left side little shaded box on the Compass that KruiseRC posted all about "pimentos" but nothing on Day 4.

 

So we are soclose to getting them all, Kim...we just need to know what you had for dinner on day 4, Kim! Think, think the whole future of the modern world depends...well ok that is also over the top:p But if you can think of one thing on the dinner menu, lamb, or surf and turf, or lobster?, then we would know the dinners for each night. Unless it was served while you were in Chops, it doesn't seem like they do serve lobster in this short cruise:confused: wondering of that's true? They don't usually serve the " Fishermans platter" on the last night, but maybe?:confused:

 

Anyway, any detail you can come up with and ill be able to post a listing with all the apps, meals and desserts for each night for the 4 day cruise!:D

 

I've quizzed the family, and none of us can remember what we ate on the final night. Sorry! But I did find this thread from someone who was on the Enchantment July 5. They are posting all menus and Compasses. The complete Mojo menu is already posted. Hope that helps!

So our cruise is coming to an end. It’s our last night. And we wanted to do all our favorite Enchantment night-time activities

After packing and placing our bags outside of the door, it was time for the Concierge Lounge. We had a glass of wine and nibbled on some munchies.

As we were leaving, we gave WOW envelopes with tips to Reyno and our waiter who had served our drinks for the four nights. The WOW envelopes showed up in our rooms on night 3.

I really wasn’t sure how much to tip. I’m still confused about what the mandatory tips cover and don’t cover. But as I understand it, the concierge and the waiter in the concierge lounge are not included.

I don’t think you need to tip the concierge unless he provides a service for you. In this case, Reyno booked our cabana. But again, I’m not the expert in this area.

Then it was time for the goodbye show. All four of us attended. It was a medley of songs and dances from Broadway shows that have been made into movies. I thought the show was pretty average. The singers and dancers were good. But I found many of the song choices to be rather obscure.

But the highlight was the heartfelt and slightly teary speech by the Cruise Director John Blair and his wife, Activities Director Katrina. As I mentioned earlier, this was their last cruise. After three years on the Enchantment, he and his wife were moving on to another ship. It was obvious that they truly love the crew and were going to miss the Enchantment very much.

(Rumor on the ship was that the cruise director from the Monarch was the replacement. But I can’t confirm.)

This was the first cruise where I felt I really got to know the Cruise Director. I attribute this to two things:

1. A smaller ship

2. Going to more of the “traditional” activities, like the Captain’s Welcome Reception, the Quest and Parade of Nations

For cruise directors, I would give John Blair an A+.

As we exited the theater, we shook hands with the captain. He looked at me and said, “I really enjoyed your Guatemala cheer.” What?!!? He was two decks below us! I can’t believe he actually knew it was me who cheered. I guess my woohoos are a little more noticeable than I thought.

Then our final dinner in the MDR. We had another good meal. I wish I could remember what we ordered. I definitely need to take better notes. And I promise I will next time.

Our server Ivan was wonderful. He was a great server and really took pride in his work. He had zero time to chitchat. He was just too busy. But he made sure we had everything we needed. And it was so nice of him to call Chops before our reservation and ask them to take good care of us. We also tipped him extra.

I don’t have much to say about the assistant waiter. Nothing really positive, nothing super negative. He never introduced himself, and we saw him only rarely when he hastily came by with bread or to fill our water glasses. He was always in a rush … and gave the impression that he didn’t want to talk to any guest. All requests went through Ivan.

My son once tried to ask for a drink refill when the assistant waiter was filling our water glasses. He gave Tommy a look of annoyance and walked off. Tommy got his drink. But it was obvious the assistant server had a set routine and didn’t want us upsetting it with requests.

So we said goodbye to our tablemates who we had enjoyed talking to each night. And then we said goodbye to Ivan.

We had a very sweet moment with Ivan when we gave him our tip envelope. He smiled and said, “I want to sincerely thank you for being so nice throughout this cruise.” It made us feel very good.

After dinner, we took Marissa to the kids’ club. She enjoyed the club this cruise. Not as much as Disney but more than the Allure. She only went twice. But she had fun both times.

Tom and I then went to the casino so I could play my allotted $100 in craps. At one point, I was up about $200. But I continued playing and walked away with $50. But hey, I had a good time! The casino always wins. J

We then went to the Schooner Lounge to say goodbye to our favorite bartender Noel and enjoy a few tunes from Bernie Martini. By this time, the last night of the cruise, the bar was packed. Quite a difference from the first night.

Word had definitely gotten out about Bernie. He really is a wonderful talent. He even had a gaggle of groupies gazing adoringly at him across the piano. But too bad, Ladies! Bernie is happily married with an 18-month old daughter at home.

We then ended our evening by picking up Marissa from the kids’ club and taking a nice leisurely stroll on deck. It was a great night.

So it’s the last day of the cruise, and we’re at sea. For the Sawyer, Sea Day is known as Stay-as-Far-Away-as-Humanly-Possible-from-the-Pool Day. Since we stayed on the ship in Nassau, we had our relaxing pool day. So today was dedicated to doing fun activities you can only do on a cruise.

As usual, the day started with room service. After a wonderful meal on our balcony and watching a few minutes of the Cruise Director's morning TV show, we showered and got ready for the day. Actually I took a bath. I was not going to let this trip end without taking my first bath on a cruise ship!

First on the agenda, adding arcade tokens to Tommy’s Sea Pass Card, and then doing some souvenir shopping with Marissa. She chose an Enchantment of the Seas teddy bear.

Then Tom and Marissa decided to take an exploration walk around the ship, and I went to the casino for a slots tournament. (I did really well on the qualifying round but came in fourth in the finals. Barely missed being a prize winner!)

Then I met up with Tom at the Schooner bar. It was time for our drink of the day. We had convinced Tommy to take his sister to see Jack the Giant Slayer in the ship’s theater.

Noel was there, and he was as entertaining as ever. He is such a friendly guy. I saw so many bartenders who didn’t appear too happy to keep refilling the kids’ sodas. But Noel was the exception. He would ask the kids -- as they walked by on their way to some other part of the ship -- if they needed a refill. Then he would tell them to be sure to come back and see him when they were ready for another.

I commented that it was nice of him to be so friendly and helpful to the younger passengers. He smiled and said he really enjoyed being around the children and teens. It reminded him of his kids in Jamaica who he misses very much. It was sweet. Plus he said he likes to stay busy.

It was about then that I realized I had left my iPhone in the casino. I stupidly put it down when I was playing in the slot tournament. After a minor meltdown, I went back to the casino, but no luck. So I headed to Guest Services. I was really hoping I would get it back. I had a lot of cruise photos on my phone as well as all the usual stuff. And I never back up my phone (again stupidly).

Fortunately, the phone had been turned in. I was so lucky. And so thankful that an honest person found my phone and took the time to take it to Guest Services. Whoever it was, THANK YOU SO MUCH! Karma, my friend. Karma.

Then we met the kids back at the cabin. Tom, Marissa and I decided to go to the Parade of Nations. Another event I had never attended. For those unfamiliar, it’s when they announce each country represented by the staff. And then a staff member from that country carries out the nation’s flag. Voila! A parade of nations!

The Cruise Director told us to cheer loudly for the countries we were from, the countries we knew people from, and the countries we had visited. It was a fun event. For many of the countries, they would play a related song or do a dance. (For instance, when they announced Korea, a Psy lookalike came out and danced to Gangham Style. The crowd went wild.)

It really made you appreciate this incredible, impressive staff from all over the world. So many countries were represented. Very cool.

So they started with the “A” countries and quickly moved on to “B.” When they got to Bulgaria – where Tommy is adopted from – I cheered loudly. As did several others. Not sure if they were Bulgarian or had visited Bulgaria, but I was happy to cheer with them.

When they got to Guatemala – where Marissa is from – I cheered just as loudly. In fact, I woohoo’d. And I woohoo’d loudly. (What can I say? I’m a woohoo-er.) Except this time, I was literally the only person out of hundreds of passengers who cheered. And as a result, the passengers watching the event (on four different decks) all craned their necks at the exact same moment to get a glimpse of the loony tune.

I just stood there and smiled … a bit embarrassed but very proud to be there with my Guatemalan princess.

After the Parade of Nations, Marissa and I decided to try our luck at Bingo. They were giving away a free cruise, and the line was out the door. When we finally got to the front, my card wouldn’t work when I tried to charge the Bingo boards to my cabin. So back to Guest Services to … you guessed it … stand in line.

I finally got to the front of the line to get my card reactivated. The representative asked me if I had the card near my phone. Uh oh ... Guilty as charged.

When I got my phone back, I put it in the same pocket as my keycard. She told me that’s the number one reason Sea Pass cards get deactivated. So keep your cards and phone separate! Or risk standing in line to get a replacement.

Marissa and I raced back to Bingo. And we just made it. We had fun playing the four games but didn’t win anything. But the woman who did win the cruise was so cute and surprised. It made the game worth going to. That and spending mommy time with my favorite girl.

It was almost time to head back to the cabin to freshen up for the Concierge Lounge. But first, we made a stop to view our photos and purchase the photo package.

The pics are separated by event, like embarkation or the Captain's Reception. Then you locate your pics on the wall. Or you can use your keycard to view your photos on one of the computer monitors. But I think the only way to really make sure you have them all is to search the walls.

UP NEXT: Our Last Night

The parade of nations. As you can see, LOTS of people were there to watch the show. And they all noticed me after my Guatemalan woohoo.

The captain joked that the last D.J. played the Abba hit, "Dancing Queen," when announcing his country (Sweden). And the Cruise Director immediately followed up that comment with, "And now that particular D.J. is playing on Carnival."

After your comments regarding Chops, I think we'll wait until we're on En until we pay a visit. We were considering going to Chops whilst on Oasis the previous week, however your review has made us think otherwise ;).

I actually think that's a great idea. There are so many other dining options on the Oasis class. Save Chops for the Enchantment. It will give you something to look forward to.

Interestingly, our server at Chops told us he had just transferred from the Oasis. I asked him how he liked the smaller ship. He said he absolutely loves it. The Enchantment has a much more relaxed pace.
