It appears from the website that Celebrity have cancelled all European cruises this year apart from Silhouette round British Isles for UK residents. Could of course be an IT glitch. All showing as "Sold Out" and "selling unavailable"

At the same time they accidentally cancelled the new July British isles cruises and are now trying to reinstate them!

According to someone on our 14 August roll call, this has happened because someone in US cancelled all Silhouette cruises. They should only have cancelled the cruises on the original programme to make way for the UK voyages. Celebrity is aware.

That someone is likely to be in trouble! Hopefully it gets resolved without all of us having to rebook.

I hope that is correct, but “wow” if it is. How on earth could that be allowed to happen?

  3. We’ve had an e-mail overnight to say that our reservation for our cruise on 17th July has been cancelled ( as has a relative). Currently trying to contact TA to find out what is going on! Anyone else has theirs cancelled? A bit of a shocking way to find out - no apology or reason in the e-mail.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there. If you select the either inside or oceanview guarantee cabins, a message appears specifically to say that the cabin will be assigned at boarding. (Whereas normally guarantee cabins are assigned prior to boarding).

Another observation is that, at least for the cruise I checked, the solo supplement is only 25% rather than the normal 100%. Maybe they're realised that when sailing at reduced capacity, they can make more money (25% more in this case) by selling 2 cabins both for solo occupancy, than selling one cabin for two people and leaving the other one empty.

Yes the deal for solo travellers is brilliant at the moment ( I think it only appeared today, as I’ve been checking for a relative).

  5. Interesting that Celebrity have reduced the headline prices on the summer sailings again about £100 per person- but by the introduction an inside cabin guarantee. Of course, with the reduced capacity on these sailings, no inside cabins have been on sale so far. Is this a slightly sneaky way of avoiding honouring the price guarantee? I wonder if everyone booking an inside guarantee will actually end up in a balcony cabin? In the unlikely event of a COVID outbreak would Celebrity really want passengers in an inside cabin?

    Hi Noreen,

I'm not very savvy on these sites what does linked to my signature mean please as I would love to read your review.

    Thanks Terry

If you are logged in and look at the bottom of their post there is a list of reviews - scroll down to the silhouette one!

If cost wasn't a factor we'd probably choose Celebrity as a first choice as we like the class of ship they are using having sailed Reflection and Eclipse. However, as the indicative price for a 6 night sailing is £1049 pp (not sure what type of cabin that will be, even though drinks are included). Now MSC are starting at £849 for 7 nights including drinks and grats, but no doubt that will be for an inside, so tomorrow I'll see the prices for a balcony on a brand new ship.

The Celebrity starting price is for a balcony cabin on the deck just above the “promenade “ deck. The price also includes wifi and gratuities. We are quite tempted as they are calling at at least two ports for each itinerary. Celebrity Silhouette has also just had a serious refurbishment ( well just before the cruise industry was shut down).

If you were on one of the cancelled sailings, you can transfer to another 3 or 4 night sailing.

It doesn’t say you can for a 7 night sailing in that text off of the website above.

It mentions transferring to the seven night cruise at no extra charge in the second sentence of the first paragraph!

  9. Interesting that the BBC say the Egyptians are reopening an older channel to divert traffic. I’ve looked on Marine Traffic and can’t find an alternative channel at the point of the blockage!

Yes the free flights to/from UK on the Antarctica voyages (plus No single supp too on a couple of voyages) make for good reading - These offers can be combined and the free flights offers end 31/03/2021.

The cruises seem to go (depending if in 2022 or 2023)  to/from LON to Santiago or Buenos Aires - two of the longest non-stop scheduled flights in the world.
Hurtigruten told me they usually have contracts with BA direct from LHR or sometimes via Madrid with Iberia.  Upgrades to BA's WTP+ and Club can be sought at 11 months prior to departure.
Seats together and extra leg room can also be booked with the airline once H'GTN can give you a booking ref (not more than 11 months prior)
you can usually choose when you want to fly out and come back should you want to see some local sights pre or post cruise.

The flights then onwards down to Punta Arenas or Ushuaia and back, is usually a LATAM LAN charter flight. Departure time is very early usually 0530-0730 and flights take 3h 30m
luggage allowance on LATAM LAN Airline charter flights ( 1pc 23kg for check in luggage + hand luggage 8kg)
LATAM is not the most awarded airline in the world 😞

Thanks very much for this useful information. We have now booked an Antarctic cruise for January 2022 on Roald Amundsen  - so should find out more about the flights next month.

  11. Hi everyone! We are interested in an Antarctica cruise in November 2022. I’ve noticed that Hurtigruten currently include flights from London in the price. Can anyone whose done this cruise with included flights give any information about them? Which carrier do they use, are the flight times good, is there the opportunity to upgrade to more than the basic leg room ( and how much might this cost)? Thanks in advance for any help.

The last one looks nothing like Alta to me. Maybe we docked in a different place.

No you are right, it definitely wasn’t Alta (even though P&O claim it was) - it was Stavanger. I hope it wasn’t one of the the P&O Captains supplying the questions and answers!

  13. Not been in one since the canopies were added, but here’s a picture of one from Mr Google of one of the aft balcony cabins(in the shade unfortunately)! I have to say that I would  much prefer this if it stops the soot from landing on the balcony - which was a big problem for the cruise we sailed on.

  14. Given the choice I would go for C748 or C749 ( which we have stayed in) - as these are the same price grade as the others. We had a cabin on a princess ship with a Stantion and I kept tripping over it ( as it flares out at the base). The stantion also makes your cabin a bit darker and can spoil the view from inside the cabin.

Just noticed a statement on the P&O site that the 5% deposit will be available on all cruises of 19 days or less booked before November 30th. So yes!

Opps...just also noticed that it refers to cruises up to April 2022 - but that might be because there aren’t any cruises currently for sale beyond that date. Hopefully it will be extended before 9th November.
