I just got off Carnival Vista yesterday. I've also cruised on the Carnival Breeze and Valor. I have sailed on RCCL Allure and Oasis and I am booked for a family cruise on the Anthem next summer. For me RCCL is the better line. I enjoyed my Carnival cruises, especially the Vista, it's a really nice ship but I definitely prefer RCCL for service and overall feel of the ship. The food is comparable for me with Carnivals free options coming out ahead. RCCL beats Carnival on up keep of the ship. I noticed a lot of things dingy, broken and messed up on the Valor and even noticed more than expected wear and tear on Vista which is only a year old. I prefer Carnivals prices but all things considered RCCL comes out ahead for me.

I'm not fond of older ships. It seems like all the newest ships are larger. So although I would probably prefer a smaller new ship it's just not an option (unless you did one of those premium lines.) So I'll stick to the newer ships. I've tried a few smaller, older ships and was disappointed each time.

We had 11210 and 11214 on the Breeze. Nice rooms, liked the location.

I used Priceline and got the Westin Beach Resort for a reasonable rate. But we had to cab it and no breakfast included.

I don't cruise to drink. Having a drink package made me obsessed with getting my money's worth, which was tiresome.
This is exactly how I feel. I have no idea how much I will want to drink. I may very well feel like not drinking at all on a couple of days. Paying ahead of time made me feel like I had to since I hate wasting money. This last time without Cheers I was just prepared for the bill at the end. I had realistic expectations so there was no "sticker shock." For those who are certain that they will feel like drinking multiple drinks every day Cheers makes sense but for others who only drink when the mood strikes it's better to pass.

I have done both Cheers and a la carte. I preferred a la carte. I hated feeling like I had to drink to justify the purchase. Sometimes I've had enough, if the waters are rough I might feel queasy, if I've been at an all-inclusive beach I might be tired of alcohol, or maybe I just want to pick a bottle of wine off the Steakhouse menu. I like keeping my options open. I couldn't add a rum floater to my Pina coladas with Cheers. A la carte just suited us better.

Yeah my kids bring their phones. They put them on airplane mode and only use them for games when we are on an airplane flying in, waiting to get on the ship, taking a long bus ride to an excursion, etc. They don't use them at any other time except to take their own vacation photos. We have plenty of fun and family time so letting them play games from time to time when we have to sit for extended periods of time is no big deal to me.

I enjoyed Chops and Giovannis but yeah Remy and Palo are superior in terms of service, decor, and food. Sorry. But that doesn't mean you won't enjoy the RCCL restaurants.

Definitely keep checking. I just booked 2 cabins on Anthem for next summer on Sunday. On Tuesday I checked this weeks sale and the price went up $100 but with $400 OBC so I'd be saving $300. I didn't get around to calling until yesterday and the price had actually gone down $450 and with the OBC I'm saving $850. If I had made the changes on Tuesday and didn't look again I'd be paying $550 more than I am now.

I was Deck 6 Aft and loved the location. It was a quick walk down the stairs to the lounges, Alchemy Bar and the Red Frog Pub. I enjoyed the cruise, liked the food (only did MDR once though, ate at Chefs Table, Scarletts twice, and had Pizza for dinner one night when we missed Early Dining due to late excursion.) My only complaints would be some of the decor was cheesy and the windows were filthy (do they clean them ever?) Otherwise I like the size and flow of the ship.

For me the biggest perk was being able to get off the ship quicker. If we didn't have FTTF we would have had to wait until 0915 to get off (that was self debark time for our deck.) With FTTF we got to go at 0815. I hate waiting on the ship the last day. The cruise is over, sitting around waiting to leave is a downer. I'd rather just got off and move on. We were on the road at least an hour earlier.

I have sailed Allure and Oasis and the Carnival Breeze. I find many of your comparisons spot on but I'd have to say that Oasis/Allure would be the overall winner for me. Hard to beat them. But for the savings, Carnival compares well.

I'm not sure what ships you are considering but perhaps consider Cloud 9 Spa rooms or suites if they have them on your ship. Nicer decor, upgraded toiletries, and access to the spa for the adults.

Spa charges have been credited back to our credit card now so I take it those didn't move over. Too bad. Not sure we will rebook FTTF. :(
My FTTF charge and excursion charges were refunded to me but now I see the FTTF charge has been applied (so the credit and charge cancel each other out.) I assume the excursion charge will follow. I think it's just taking a while to sort out.

Thanks. I have FTTF but I wanted to choose an early time just in case I decide to give it up.

I have done it twice. Once with kids, once as a couple. Enjoyed it both times.

That's good. I missed ours on my last trip. I never received word of when and where. It may have been in the Fun Times but I never saw it.

Yeah it is weird that so many cruises that had sold out FTTF previously now have some available (at a higher price.) I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that they have decided to sell more per cruise.

The RFP on Magic was my absolute favorite place to hang out. I just loved the girls in there. I dont remember snacks but I never asked for any. Various food items for fee will be on a menu. I didnt try any but what I saw looked great and prices seemed reasonable.
They were outstanding to my 5 year old nephew! If you like mojitos, Id suggest trying their Ting mojito. It was most excellent!
Yes the Ting Mojito is awesome!!!!!

I liked the decor and location. I didn't use the Spa (probably would have if my kids weren't with us.) I was happy.

How much do your kids spend on board?

I don't give my children spending privileges on the ship. Multiple cruises and they have yet to ask for anything besides lanyards.
