The real question is, when someone swings the door open from the hallway, can anyone walking by see that someone is in the shower/toilet? That would be my only ick moment.
When I was on the Epic, we used the 'Do Not Disturb/Make up Room' Housekeeping wheel on the door to inform any incoming cabinmates that someone was using the facilities.

Will be sailing on the Getaway 9/19 with my sister (26) and my kids (16)(18) and I have a few general questions hopefully someone can answer.
6. Should the waterslides be one of the 1st things we do once on board due to the long lines later, and all week or is there a good time to take advantage of those? Same goes for the wall and ropes.
You could just wait and go on a port day. The ship is usually cleared out and you've got the run of the place.

see that we can bring on a 12pk of soft drinks with us on carry-on.
Gotta be in a can. NO BOTTLES.

It's not the British slang term for a cigarette, is it?

So to verify, I can wear shorts (yes, nice khaki or similar) and a nice collar shirt in the following 4 specialties:
Teppanyaki
Cagney's
Moderno
La Cucina
I am on the Getaway in two weeks...
And they don't even have to be "dress" shorts. As long it's not a bathing suit, you're good to go.
Only one I've been to (and it was on Epic) was La Cucina, which I thoroughly enjoyed (though be foreward the servings are gi-normous).

Keep in mind the app only works on certain boats (BA, Epic, GA, Jewel, Pearl, Sun, Star, POA)

Is there something with our labor laws that makes it impossible for them to hire Americans? I know the pay is terrible, but I'm sure there are people who would just like to live on a cruise ship no matter what the pay is.
One of the perks of having the ships flagged in other countries is that you don't have to follow US labor laws like minimum wage.
And while the idea of living on a cruise ship sounds nice, crew quarters are decidedly nothing like what we would consider a "normal" room.

What does 2.0 upgrade mean? Sorry I am new to cruising.

Just got off the Gem. ... no drunken people.
Are you SURE you were on a cruise ship?

Maybe I am misremembering, but I thought the announcement was that onboard it was slightly more expensive.
There are a couple of places where, if you buy it in port (Galveston, for instance), you have to pay an additional couple bucks in taxes. Once you hit international waters, the tax goes away.
Don't have the list of taxable ports offhand, but I'm sure someone will chime in.

We have sailed NCL Jewel and Spirit. If im correct, Dawn is Jewel's sister.
Not quite. NCL Dawn and Star are sisters.
Jewel shares a class with Gem, Jade, and Pearl.

I may be wrong, but I think the embarkation language has been attached to the carry-on beverage policy for awhile. It is not new language.
I agree it can be looked at as ambiguous, but I have often seen beverages carried on at port of calls.
I wonder if this would apply to all the Liquid Vanilla purchases as well.

We can wait last minute because we fly on standby. It's the UBP promotion that is available until 7/31 and would not want to miss that because I don't think the price of the cruise would have to drop to make up for the package because we would buy it if it wasn't offered.
Just know that if you do come across a price drop and the UBP promotion has ended, you will lose it if you re-book.
We once booked a room on Epic that included $50 OBC, dinner for 2 at La Cucina and chocolate strawberries. Our room eventually dropped over $200. We re-booked, but lost all the goodies. (Which was fine b/c the price drop more than covered the price of the promos lost.)

Google Maps Street view has been updated to include the tunnel Signage.
Here's what it says when approaching on I-95 South:
LEFT Exit 2D
I-395 East (Cruise Icon)
Port Miami
VIA TUNNEL
Miami Beach
EXIT ONLY
Can't miss it.

The perk debuted this year during the Wave Promotion (January). I could see it coming back, but not till next year.

This itinerary has has three stops, so you are not on the ship much during the day.
If one of the stops in Great Stirrup Cay, you can use the UBP to get drinks while on the island.

Dawn doesn't have a JumboTron on the Lido.
Epic, Getaway, Breakaway, etc. all have them at Spice H2O, so they can/do show movies there.

does anybody have any with the third bed actually made up?
No pics, but the couch pulls out about a foot or so. It does not fold out.
Extra tip: Behind the couch cushions is a treasure trove of extra storage.

Just FYI, typically there is ice, water, tea (really strong - I always mix it half and half with water), coffee, decaf coffee, lemonade, two other fruit drinks (mango and strawberry lime on Sun last week) available in the buffet.
Orange and Cranberry juices (from concentrate, NOT Fresh-squeezed) are available from the buffet machines, but ONLY during breakfast hours. After breakfast, they are converted to the fruit drinks.
Milk is also available during all open buffet hours.

If you pre-purchase it before you sail, you are required to purchase it for everyone in the room.
If you wait until you board, you can purchase it person by person.
I don't know why, or what the difference is. It's just the way they do it.

My question is – is it necessary to book MDR eating times ahead of time, or can you just show up?
Just show up. Pre-booking is an option if you're one of those Type-A people who want to plan out every second of their vacation, but it's completely voluntary and not at all required. The longest I've ever had to wait for an MDR table was 8 minutes. 90% of the time, it was "Walk up, walk in..."
The only restaurant I'd recommend booking ahead of time is Teppanyaki, especially on the Gem. Popular venue + small space = book early.

Maybe I'm just dumb, but one trick I just learned just in the past couple of weeks:
After clicking open the 'View Dates and Pricing' tab for a particular Itinerary, you can sort each individual cabin type by price. For the longest time, I was cycling through ALL the listings looking for the cheapest Haven, Balcony, etc. in the particular set. Which became quite tedious if a particular cruise was offered 20-30 times.
Now, sort and go!

I solo-ed on Triumph a couple of years ago and had ATD. Always got my own table at dinner, but had to share a big giant table during the one brunch I went to.
YMMV.
