  1. Hey everyone!  I have a large cabana booked for October 6th and I don't believe they do things like they use to. (When I booked a small cabana a few years back) Curious to know if we go straight to guest services and pick our cabana # once we get onboard or if they are now assigned to you and no picking?? Does anyone know? Thanks for your help!

  2. Hey everyone! My boyfriend and I will be visiting Tortola in October. We are looking for a great tour operator that can provide us with an excursion that consist of exploring the island and its history, and maybe a beach.

Norwegian has one but I'm trying to find something a bit cheaper.

If you have any suggestions please let me know.

Thanks so much for your time!

This appears to be an angled balcony. Is it?  Is it larger?  Thinking of booking this cabin.

You are correct. It is an angled balcony and yes, it is a bit larger. I've sailed on the Getaway twice, and the Escape with an angled balcony and on the Breakaway in October in an angled balcony. I love them and at no additional charge I'd book one every time if one is available.

    Enjoy!

How did you like the small cabana? My sister and I have one reserved for September.  What/how did you use the cabana and amenities? This will be our first time cruising with NCL. Hope you don’t mind me butting in with the questions😎

I don’t mind at all! We had a small Cabana about 6 years ago. I loved it and can’t say enough good things about them. Even though they’ve stopped giving the $50 credit for food, it’s still worth it in my book. You have your own loungers, shade, table, fridge, bottle of water, mats. I mean you can’t beat it.

I will say I haven’t been to great stirrup cay since them so I am not sure what’s changed since then. We had a tram that took us and picked us up but I’m not sure if they still run them or not.

You guys are going to love it so much!!!!!!! Go to YouTube and watch a couple of videos if you haven’t already!

I don’t remember, unfortunately, what number we had (was large).  I believe the restrooms were a walk away, not easy to get to (no good path). We were assigned one once we got on the island.

Be warned... once you do cabana, you could never do “regular “ again... well worth the $$ (not much shade at all in the island, I believe).

Interesting..So they don’t let you pick your own anymore. Not sure I like that. Lol.

A few years ago I had a small cabana. Now I’m going back and got a large. I agree, once you get one it’s hard not having one.

Thanks so much for your response.

  6. Hello all..First let me say, please don't get upset about another cabana thread. Lol. I'm here to get an opinion and I have searched high and low and can't find anything. All I've found in searching are people comparing cabanas to the villas and Haven area on the island. And although the villas would be the way to go, my bank account says otherwise. Lol!

So, I booked a large cabana for my cruise in October and I am curious to know if you've booked a large cabana before what number and did you like it or not? I would like one closest to the restrooms so it won't be a very long walk.

Also, it's been a few years since I booked a cabana before (small) do they still do it where you have to go to the shore excursions desk once you board to pick your number?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for taking time to read my topic.

Has NCL provided any recent updates on the construction at GSC - feels like it's been radio silence..RCCL is turning their nearby island into an amusement park and managed to get things done much quicker...

I have not seen any updates for GSC...I agree with you...It's definitely been silent.

We paid aprox. $375 for a small cabana. That included $50 food credit (basic food

is included but this is for things like shrimp cocktail). Also included were floating mats,

bottles of water and a few other things I can't remember. If you have the $50 shore

ex perk that can be applied. We felt it was worth it.

Thanks so much for responding! I remember when we rented one a few years back they gave you the food credit too. For $315-$375 it's pretty much worth it to me. For $575 I don't believe so. Lol. We loved having one. They had sodas in a can too I believe. If I remember correctly.

Again, thanks so much for posting. I'm just trying to prepare for when October comes. :)

I’m on a May 2019 cruise on the Breakaway and the small cabanas are showing $575 and large is $625. imageproxy.php?img=&key=b5ec9cff05c76377

Goodness...$575 is a bit much (for me) I'd probably pay at the most $350ish lol hopefully the price decreases for October. I had one a few years back but it was split between 4 adults so it didn't make it that bad. I don't even know what we paid back then. Thanks so much for taking time to post.

We just sailed Epic last week and were lucky enough to make it to the island (the few cruises before us couldn't tender the boats because of rough seas...?). In any case, I was surprised that they didn't give out maps of GSC. We have been to other cruise line private islands, and usually they hand out maps. Luckily, the signs around the island and the people working there were helpful in making our way around. Also, we met a group that rented a cabana and I believe they said it was around $300, so the $315 price on the website sounds correct.

Thank you so much for responding. It's greatly appreciated. I feel like the maps while on the island is super helpful but I guess the signs are too. :)

I got on a roll call of someone leaving soon (March 24th) and they said the small cabanas are $505ish or something in the $500's. They were sailing on Breakaway.

Again, thanks a lot for your response. I hope you have a great day.

I just did a search here on CruiseCritic, and wonder if this is what you are looking for when it comes to a map of GSC?

Thank you...I did not search the Norwegian Cruise Line forums...I searched the Bahamas. Yes, this is what I was looking for. I don't recall seeing this anywhere. Thanks so much for your time..

I believe you posted this question on the Bahamas forum. Someone posted there.  I know, because I copied it myself.

Is this not the Bahamas forum? I'm confused...did I not post in the correct area?

  13. I posted this in the Bahamas section but I didn't get a response only views. Hopefully by me posting here I can get some help. If you have recently visited GSC, do you have a copy of the map they give you? Or do they even give a map anymore?? I know that the island has gone through some renovations but I haven't been in about 5 years. I'm scheduled to go in October and would like to take a look at it to get an idea of the cabanas, food, bars, etc. You can send it to my email tminish85 @ yahoo . com or upload them here. Updated pictures would be super great too! :)

Also, if you've been recently or currently have a cruise booked with GSC on your itinerary what is the cost of the small cabana? I know from the information online it states that the price will vary depending on ship and sail date. I'm just trying to get an idea. It currently shows $315 on the website but since I don't cruise until October it hasn't came up on the excursion list yet.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not being a butt. Just pointing out the obvious. You have no idea who, what, where, or when your info was stolen. You may have purchased something from John's Candle Factory using the same password as you use for Uber. Which is normal. And then a hacker grabbed your password and sold it. The info is then run against all major services, like Uber, and then voila, someone uses your account. Uber has nothing to do with it. But you are basically bad mouthing the service all over the internet. If Uber was hacked, it would be international news.  So that's the point, your opinion is irrational, probably totally unfounded, and may effect very real decisions from others. Is it really wrong for someone to call you out on it?

My information was not stolen....My card was not stolen. MY Uber driver charged me a $200 cleaning fee when I did not leave any type of trash, or mess as he claimed in his vehicle. Never did I say anything about my card being stolen. Uber confirmed that my driver DID charge me the $200 fee. As I mentioned in my original post, he submitted a picture of a seat that was not his. I also stated that if my mother and I had not taken pictures INSIDE his vehicle we would've never been able to prove that the picture the driver submitted did NOT match up with the picture we took. The driver of Uber definitely had something to do with it. And as far as I'm concerned so did Uber since he drove for them.

As I said, I don't care if you or anyone on cruise critic or in this world uses Uber. It's a preference..And it's not mine! I was just stating MY EXPERIENCE. Is that against the law?

Ok, now I am worried. I need a ride from Miami to FLL, and coz it's late at night and I would be with luggage, I thought Uber would be easy and safe. I am always cautious where I put my credit card details, and now I actually have to! Everything else would be to expensive for my ride to FLL. And the train will be too much in an unfamiliar area, late at night, 2 suitcases... 😞

Please, do whatever you would like to do. My comment was not to make you NOT use Uber, just giving you a heads up of what happened to me and the experience I had. I have also taken Uber many times and this was the first horrible thing I had happen to me. Again, if taking Uber is something you want to do then by all means do it. Safe travels!

We used Uber for the first time in October of last year from Miami to FLL airport. A couple of weeks after we're back home I got some emailed receipts for using Uber is San Francisco...I'm in Missouri. Our Uber account had been hacked. We did eventually get our money credited back to my card but it was a headache to deal with. So needless to say, we won't use Uber again.

I am so sorry that happened to you but I'm so thankful you got your money back! Uber is not for everyone so it's totally a personal preference!

  18. Before my answer to you would’ve been Uber…However, in 2017 when I flew into FLL I requested an Uber to our hotel in Miami. He was super nice on the way down. Talkative, telling us about his family, offered us a water which we drank and put the empty bottle in our personal bags. My mother and I took a selfie while inside of his vehicle in the backseat. Once he dropped us off I received an email confirming the drop off and it had a different address than our hotel. I didn’t think anything about it because he did such an awesome job. I mean such an awesome job that we gave him a very good cash tip. Not long after that I received another email stating I was being charged a cleaning fee of $200….I’m telling you this is not how you want to start a vacation. They sent a picture of what the driver sent in and the picture was not even the inside of his vehicle. Thank God my mom and I took that picture!! After going back and forth with Uber via the app (bc there’s no phone number) and also blasting them on FB and having all of my friends do the same, they agreed to return the $200. Since then I’ve not rode with Uber again. A few months after my return, I seen an article from the Miami news that stated more people was done this exact same way. I work hard for my money as I’m sure everyone here does. It kinda just put a nasty taste in my mouth.

I said from that day forward I would not take another Uber, especially in FLL/Miami. This year we are flying into FLL again, staying at the same hotel, and I’m on the search for another way of transportation.

This is just my story and experience. I think I would rather have a piece of mind and pay a little extra than go through that again.

  19. Hi Sid! Happy Monday! I hope that your nose bleeds get better. I know that stinks! That food you posted looked amazing! I pray that your new living arrangements won't cause too much stress on you. Just take a deep breath and one day at a time.
