  1. For the last week I have wanted to post a thread about all of those that have been whining and complaining about this loyalty program and how truly ungrateful they have sounded. The OP's post hits the nail square on the head.

You get the loyalty perks as a BONUS from Celebrity. They are not owed to you nor are you magically entitled to them. Celebrity does not have to do this yet they do. If they did not do it their bottom line would not be impacted in the slightest. Be thankful for what you do get and do not whine about what you think you should get.
  2. We were once on a cruise and my team was playing in the World Series. I went to guest relations to ask if the games were going to be broadcast anywhere (knowing in advance that there was a good probability they would not be). The rep looked at me and said, "World Series.....that's Football, right?"

We usually travel in the fall when there are fairly important baseball/football games happening back in the states and after 18 cruises I can comfortably say that you will have about a 50/50 shot of being able to see your game. Their ability to show it depends on many factors not limited to what's available via satellite based on the ship's location and overall interest of your fellow cruisers. Good luck!

  3. As far as " reviews" are concerned, I don't think anyone should pay too much attention to either good or bad reviews. One should read both with more than just a grain of salt.

Your specific statement was 'Do not believe any of the negative reviews' as such implying that only the positive ones were valid. Maybe not what you meant, but that was how it came across. Had you stated what you said above, 'I don't think anyone should pay too much attention to either good or bad reviews. One should read both with more than just a grain of salt' your point would have been more clear.

Personally I agree w/ your second statement. I think readers need to take all reviews for what they're worth knowing that opinions will differ. If however the number of positives or negatives outweighs the opposite, you can definately read a trend into the big picture and get a fairly accurate point of view. I'm not sure which way the Summit reviews lean overall.

  4. Just a personal opinion, but,if they are not doing new ships, they need to maintain what they have. Just watch people complain about maintenance on M Class. We love the Constellation, but complaints about mold have discouraged us from re-scheduling. People will return if they feel ships are "maintained".

    Absolutely agree.....100%.

  5. My opinion:

If they want to make this a REAL perk they should offer the vouchers to be used at ANY BAR at ANY TIME. Many folks don't find the hours specified on the vouchers convenient. For us the vouchers go unused becasue they are generally valid only during the time we are dressing and getting ready for dinner.

  6. We have been very fortunate over the last few years to have Sailed on some VERY new Celebrity ships. The Eclipse, the Silhouette and the Reflection were all at (or under) a year old when we sailed. In between those, we sailed on the Summit AFTER it was Solsticized. While it was OK, it did not really live up to our expectations because many of the areas on the ship still seemed worn out/drab or still in needed refurb that was not done while the solsticizing was taking place. We noticed old/worn pool furniture, window film that was peeling and scratched walls as just a few examples. Obviously none of this ruins a vacation, but the ship did indeed lack the 'wow factor' that all of the new ships noted above have.

Next year, we have an opportunity to sail on the Solstice which will be just over 6 years old when we board. For those of you that have been on this ship recently, how is it holding up? I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on things like wear and tear on the carpets and furnishings. Do things throughout still look shiny and new or are things starting to show their age like they are (in our opinion) on the Summit? At 6 years old it is by no means an 'old' ship but there are still things that probably still need attention I am sure. We spend a lot of time at the Martini Bar and I have read in multiple places that the ice surface there is not currently working and has not been working for quite some time. This would not spoil a cruise but it would be a bit of a letdown.

Any thoughts on your recent experiences would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

  7. We were on deck 11 last fall. We liked it for the following reasons...

VERY quiet. Since the number of cabins is limited there is very little through traffic and there is also no noise from above.

    Close to buffet

No overhang. We find the overhang on 9 to be more of an annoyance than a benefit.

The cabin as all new as opposed to being a refurbished one. Some cabins on 9 have issues with the condition of the bathroom since they were not refurbished to the same level that the cabins were.

We'd book 11 again without question.

  8. For my cruise I opted for the AquaClass cabins on deck 11. It's above the buffet, so no potential foot traffic noise overhead. They're also close to the buffet, since all I'd need to do make a quick left turn out of the cabin, walk a few steps, and go right down the stairs. :D

Also, an aquaintance of mine recently returned from her cruise and she had the same class and deck and she loved it. She was on the Infinity and she was surprised at how quiet it turned out to be.

To the OP - I agree w/ Kevin. I would opt this way as well (non aft). In addition to what he mentions these deck 11 cabins are BRAND NEW (not refurbished). The AQ selection also gives you access to Blu which we are looking forward to. Other cabin categories you mention are dramatically more expensive generally speaking. We have done a Sky Suite 2x before and while the room is larger, the amenities and room size are probably not worth the price difference now that Aqua is an option (not to us anyway).

  9. So, if I am on your cruise, and the sun is out, and I am playing not quite well on a quiet deck.... unless you are napping in the cabin above, you can just walk the other way, or sit down and sing (also badly?) along.

But joesteam, that is the issue. If you are in a quiet space and you are playing and someone wants to sit there too, they should not have to walk away. By playing you may be impacting their ability to enjoy the same space you are in. Many people will deal with it and find a different space but they should not be put in a position to have to consider this.

  10. Why not just get off the ship in port, and play there? Then it doesn't offend any passengers in captivity. Put out a hat and maybe you'll get some local currency. You can't know if your neighbors will be gone unless you ask them first, of course. Some folks stay on the ship during port, so you can't assume anything regarding when would be best to play.

I'm a musician. Singer, piano, flute, various other instruments (majored in music ed so I had to be proficient at many) but I'd never consider bringing an instrument or even singing in my cabin. It's not just my vacation, it's others vacations too, and they didn't pay to come seeme/hear me.

Trust me, I understand the urge, it's within us, however we also need to realize that just because WE want it, doesn't mean we should subject others to it.

    .

    PERFECTLY stated.

  11. Not trying to offend but we would fnd ANY musical instrument being played by a passenger on the ship in any public space annoying. If it happened more than once I would politely ask the person playing it to stop - if they refused I would go to guest relations.
