  1. This is such a wonderfully informative thread! Thank you to all who contributed. Pegdave, would you mind sharing this thread on our roll call?

    Thanks again everyone!

  2. I would drive. The parking garage is right there. It's a cluster dropping off luggage first so I would just park and walk across the street. I believe we paid $120 to park last time. Not sure of the price today.

So I don't have to drop luggage first? I was under impression that I did? If I don't it's easy to wheel over? Thank you

  3. On that cruise also. If you take the train into South Station, transfer to MBTA Silver Line is easy, and it's a pretty short and cheap ride out to Black Falcon cruise terminal. You don't need to take a taxi unless you want to. We took the Silver line last cruise from South Station to cruise terminal, and we plan to do it this cruise as well. http://www.massport.com/cruiseport/to-from-cruiseport/public-transportation/

So you like taking the train over driving?

  4. Check my post #13.... Bow Lot is just used to describe the lot located at the bow of the ship..... but it's real name (GPS address) is EDIC Pier. . . 12 Drydock is the garage

NFL games shown are typically the prime time Sunday, Monday, and Thursday nights only

Great thank you so much for your info.

  5. I got off the Dawn yesterday. We drove from NJ and it was simple. We were at the Pier before 8 am, unloaded passenger and toddler, parked car about 50 yards deom ship at the bow of the boat. Walked back, porters arrived and took our bags, walked around for an hour with the stroller then returned to begin embarkation. I commented to some friends that despite leaving home at 3:30 am, id prefer the drive to Boston over the mess in NY any day. While walking we also saw the other parking lot which is only a 3 minute walk.

Oh thank you so much ! Do you know if you parked was it called the Bow lot - 12 dry dock? Hey did to happen to notice any preseason football on any tvs? How was the ship? We have only been on the Breakaway class so unsure if the smaller class ship.

  6. Hi my vote is to drive. September weather should not be an issue. You don't have to handle your luggage on and off the train and in and out of taxis. At the end of the cruise your transportation is there and you are on your way home. We have an issue when we cruise out of NY because the cost to park at Pier 88 now is sky high. (nearly $400.00 for a 7 day cruise) that alternative transportation is cheaper.

I know NYC we never park in their lot. We take s train there for sure.

  8. Not really full blown restaurants.... there's a Dunkin Donuts nearby..... but remember you cannot bring any liquids beyond the security check-point

Thank you , I was just wondering because I know we will get in around 9 not sure we can go in at the time

  9. For this lot, the passengers from the previous cruise must depart to free up the spaces so anytime after 9am would be a good time to arrive. This lot is dedicated to cruise passengers.

The other lot and garage are always open because they support many other events

Thank you ! One last question. Are there restaurants within walking distance after park?

  10. Actually, from Connecticut.... driving would be my choice..... parking lots are super convenient.

    Black Falcon Terminal

    Flynn Cruiseport (Boston)

    https://www.massport.com/port-of-boston/cruiseport-boston/

Shuttle & Cell Phone Lot: 22 Fid Kennedy Ave, Boston, MA 02210 ($20 / $19 pre pay)

Bow Lot: EDIC Pier, Boston, MA 02210 ($20) (this my preference)

Garage: 12 Drydock Ave, South Boston, MA 02210 ($20)

    - If driving .... continue all the way down Drydock Ave and it will loop around to the right and turn into Black Falcon Ave. Stay in line of cars and after the taxi line, pull left to unload luggage to porters. If you want to park in "Bow Lot" then continue on approx 0.12 miles and lot is on left. Pay, Park and walk the 3 minutes back to pier. Since you already dropped off your luggage, stay along the right (away from people getting off buses, being dropped off) and head to escalator that says "this way to ship". You do NOT have to stay in the huge middle line as those are the people dropping off luggage.... just walk around them.

Thank you so much for the help. Do you know what time the Bow lot opens?

  11. If you take the train, South Station is very close to the Black Falcon Cruise Port. You can grab a cab from South Station and be there quickly.

I don't like driving in Boston, and always take the commuter rail into the city. When we come into the cruise port, we use a car service. Just saying.

So it sounds like a train would be alot easier

  12. Just boarded and the order is:

    1) Ambassador, Platinum Plus, Platinum

    2) Special Assistance

    3) Numbered Groups

No CAS priority except getting a lower number. I received Group 3 and arrived at 10am.

If you are looking to park in the garage, it is only available for overflow of the open air lots.

The original Massport open air parking lot that is located at the bow (one they said was closed).... is open ($20 / day) - this was a pleasant surprise as I love this lot and the easy access.

They were asking your "arrival time" but not checking or enforcing. They staggered people going up the escalator which made going through security a breeze and checkin fast.

Hi it's our first time out of Boston. We have done New York a lot . Can't decide on driving or taking the train. We live in Connecticut probably around the same price. But I did some research and there seems to a garage .3 miles away called Air Rights Garage. They say no reservations. Do you know anything about this garage? Or could you suggest the best parking ?

    Thank you !

  13. I posted a full review under the reviews section, but just wanted to comment on our experience on the Breakaway. I took my mom on this cruise for her birthday and Christmas and overall we had a decent time, but it definitely was not my favorite cruise. In fact, by the end, I couldn't wait to get off the ship, and I don't think I have ever felt that way on a cruise.

In a nutshell, the main problem (for me, and it also bugged my mom) was the NOISE and CROWDS. The ship is not well laid out for the number of passengers, public areas (especially the Atrium) are too small to accommodate the people who want to participate in the shows/events. I forgot to mention this in my formal review, but there is a serious problem with cigarette smoke on this ship. The casino is wide open, the smoke spreads beyond the casino into other areas of the ship. On top of that, there is an outside deck that is a smoking area, and the smoke from that deck permeates a large area inside the ship - I think it was deck 8, near the Italian specialty restaurant.

There is loud music EVERYWHERE and much of it is annoying teeny bopper music. The cruise director was manic and seemed to be screaming into microphones at every event. We had a hard time finding quiet areas to "chill" away from the crowds and chaos. The Waterfront deck was nice and quiet, but some days it was too chilly to sit out there. The Atrium has non-stop activities and with all of them, the sound system is blasting and the entire area is totally crammed with people. There is only seating for about 150 total in that area, which is nowhere sufficient.

I am not sure who designed the Breakaway Theater but the seats in there are the most uncomfortable I have ever sat in. The seat bottom slants downwards, so you slide down on the seat. If you try to scoot your butt backwards, your hit a wooden bar in the back of the seat. They are terrible. The deck loungers are also very uncomfortable.

On New Years Eve, we went to the blues bar, which was a nice escape from the manic cruise director and bad music elsewhere on the ship. At 11:25, the blues band took a break, and a large projection screen was unfurled and a simulcast of the New Years Eve party at Spice H2O was broadcast into the blues bar, with Alvin the cruise director yelling and screaming the entire time. We went to the blues bar to escape that insanity and now we were forced to endure 35 minutes of Alvin screaming. We stayed because we didn't want to lose our seats.

On the plus side, we loved the main shows, Burn the Floor and Rock of Ages. These were 2 of the best shows I have ever seen at sea. The blues band, Les Getrix and Creole Cooking Band, was very good, although some of their material repeated itself on different nights. We didn't eat at any speciality restaurants, but the food in the complimentary areas (other than the buffet) was consistently decent to very good. My favorite thing was the molten chocolate volcano cake, which was offered every evening and was just scrumptious. So was the creme brulee. Some of the buffet food was inedible and disgusting. Just looking at the watery scrambled "eggs" made my stomach turn. The pizza wasn't even as good as Ellio's.

In a nutshell, the Breakaway seems to be ship that is geared toward chaos and partying. It's non-stop noise and people everywhere. It seemed like the majority of real estate on the ship was dedicated to extra-fee stuff and there wasn't much that was included. We were really disappointed that there was no solarium, which has always been my favorite area on the ship to hang out during the day. I think there was one, but it was for "Haven" guests only (i.e. extra fee).

Is Dan Dan still the Cruise Director? Was the Margaritaville open?

  14. I know a couple of answers. We usually use cash as our deposit. You cannot give them cash at the terminal. You will have to go directly to guest services after you get on the ship to set up your account. I don't know how the OBC works. I do know if you use cash, on the night before your departure day you can close out your account and receive the cash back if you have money left. No waiting on a check. Again this is for making a cash deposit not OBC. Never did that. I can tell you it's 100% positive on the way the cash deposits work. We have done it 10 times out of our last 12 cruises. Including the Escape last year [emoji41]

  15. welcome let me know if you find him helpful

So I I took the offer for the no booking fees but it's only on a OV even though based on my play I qualified for a balcony. I love the savings of $200 a Person but not sure about an ocean view

  16. I have an offer for a Family large Oceanview cabin. The room is a slightly bigger then a balcony. I have never sailed without a balcony but this offer is a good deal. We really don't use the balcony to hang out on. Just check the the temperature and the view. I am so worried that I will be miserable. Any advice or opinions would be great !
