  1. We are from Tampa. We flew into Seattle and spent 2 days there, took the train to Vancouver, and the next day we took a northbound cruise ending in Seward. We had 2 days post cruise in Alaska and then flew home. We packed a lot into our Seattle time and I feel like we saw all the main sights-Space Needle, Chiluly Garden, EMP, aquarium, Pike Place Market, and West Seattle/Aliki (sp?) beach. Depending on your interests in Seattle, I think you could reduce your time there and add it to land time in Alaska. Just an idea. Look into Alaska Airlines. I don't know about Miami, but they have a direct flight out of Tampa. They also partner with Delta, so we could use our miles. Enjoy your trip. The northwest was a welcome change from the heat and humidity of a Florida summer!

  2. I booked a dog sled tour independently with ERA out of Juneau. We did the Extended Adventure and got to help harness the dogs, brush them, and feed them in addition to the sled ride. We also got to eat lunch on the glacier. This tour lived up to all my expectations and then some. It was the highlight of our our cruise. In Hoonah, we did whale watching with Misty Bay Lodge and had a great time.

  3. We are thinking about doing the river tubing excursion. My husband is almost 7 feet tall and weighs around 260 lbs. He meets the weight limit, but will he be terribly uncomfortable in the tube? Has anyone who is really tall done this excursion and could offer some advice?

  4. I was talking to a new TA this morning and she suggested booking an ocean view guarantee on a March sailing on the Getaway. She said that since the Getaway didn't have many ocean view cabins that would accommodate our party of 3, there was a good chance we would end up with a family ocean view or even a balcony. We have never sailed Norwegian and were wondering if that idea is reasonable.

  5. When I first started planning my trip to Alaska, I wanted to do everything--flight seeing, glacier landing, bear viewing. I quickly realized how expensive these tours were and that I didn't have that kind of budget. I decided that dog sledding on a glacier was my top priority, so I adjusted the budget elsewhere, including our time in Alaska post-cruise to just one day. My time on the glacier was magical and I'm happy with my choices. Do what will make you happy AND let you sleep at night!
