  1. Me and my group went on a Train/bus/boar adventure, took a lot of pictures since we just simply love nature, if you are a nature lover you should go on a tour likes this.

Being able to see many different species makes it a very unique experience, this was one of the highlights of our trip, we were a group of 8 people.

Do not miss doing a tour like this (If you love nature)

We really enjoy our stay in this beautiful port of call.

    :)

    You don't say which port

  2. Thanks but I know what Seabourn are offering. What I'm after is any information on whether there are reasonable alternatives to going on all the Seabourn trips and what experience other posters have had, if any, in these ports.

Sorry Buccaneer, I haven't any experience of the Phillipine ports. I have similar queries as you regarding a cruise from LA to FLL through the Panama Canal, with no prior knowledge of any of the ports. However, I have found lots of alternatives to Seabourn tours by first seeing what they are offering and then looking for alternatives on Trip Advisor.

  3. I am happy that I looked around and found this thread. I too am looking toward 2016 for a full transit through the Panama Canal. Just now trying to figure which way would be best for all of us that want to do this trip.

I have interest in this trip from fellow 'past' cruise friends that live in Canada (eastern ) Boston, Connecticut, possibly California, and of course here in Phoenix. I am just really in the initial planning stages, and have not really gotten a chance to go through every single cruise line/itinerary.

I do like the idea of a two day (in the Panama area) trip. That would give us the opportunity to really see the area I think. I don't have much desire to see a lot of Mexico...... living just a couple of hours away from Mexico, we have visited enough.

So again, I look forward to see what is posted here..................... I also look forward to contributing as much as I can (which right now is very little) :p

We have just booked on Seabourn Odyssey from Los Angeles 21 March 2016. It has a full day in Fuerte Amador (8am - 11.59pm) before full transit of the Canal. I am particularly excited about the Whale watching en route to the canal.

  4. We will be ending a Celebrity cruise in Buenos Aires next year .................................

Does the immigration process take long? .................

I would be most grateful for any opinions from those with experience of this port.

Thank you very much for your help.

Our experience of the immigration process was just being waved through without anyone stamping our passports. This caused problems when we went through immigration at the airport - having to explain how we arrived in the country. All cruise passengers had the same experience and we figure it may have been "pay-back" for our cruise having visited the Falklands.

  5. Four years ago, my wife and I were in the exact same situation as you. We decided to give Seabourn a chance. We cruised on the Sojourn. Big mistake. For us, the most important factors in a vacation are food quality and comfort, and Seabourn was below average in both. We have cruised with Celebrity twice, so I have a good basis of comparison. As far as food goes, the Seabourn buffet and MDR are better than the equivalent venues on Celebrity, however, the food quality in the specialty restaurants on the Celebrity ships was far better than what was offered in any venue on the Sojourn. If you like good wine, you will be extremely disappointed with the included wines on Seabourn. The comfort of the cabins was similar between the two lines, but neither approach the luxury found on other high end cruise lines or hotels.

    As for your specific questions

Excursions are not included, and they were mostly misses. We have done essentially the same itinerary on seven different lines, and the excursions offered by Seabourn on this itinerary were below average.

I find small ship life to be boring. The entertainment is minimal. It is all about having conversations with your fellow passengers or watching programs on the television in your stateroom. You might find it hard to relate to a group of people whose children will be significantly older than you two. The casino is a joke and is rarely used. Compared to Celebrity, the quality and variety of shows and other entertainment are quite poor on Seabourn. If you are at all an active person, Seabourn is the wrong cruise line.

During our ten days, the weather was quite good. No rain and mild winds. Nonetheless, there is a big difference in the stability of an M class and the Sojourn. You will notice a lot more motion on the Sojourn. My wife has rarely, if ever, felt queasy on any of our other 17 cruises, but felt ill twice on the Sojourn due to motion sickness.

I would highly encourage you to take the advice that several others have offered. If you want to see Egypt, go by land and stay in nice hotels.

18 Cruises and this is your first post???

  6. Spot on !!!

I have met a good deal of interesting people on cruises but can not for the life of me remember what they were were wearing.

  7. I'm really tired of reading what a gentleman would do. A gentleman is kind, considerate of other peoples' feelings, well mannered and polite. If he's wearing casual clothes while acting as above it makes no difference.

    Well said!!

  8. $220 US for a group bus tour of Rio? Outrageous.

First of all, hope for a clear day.

Just take a taxi to Cosme Velho for the Christ statue.

Have lunch at Porcao in Ipanema.

    Taxi to Sugarloaf.

If time, go walk around in the downtown area to see some of the historic buildings.

If you want to hire a private guide with a car, none better than Rafa.

Yes, we have a private tour booked with Rafa for our upcoming trip. A private car, which can take 4 is $400 USD. We booked through AnyRoad.

  9. Does anyone know whether it is still possible to have a picnic lunch made up to take off the ship?

Only in France, not in any country where food laws are strict.

    Thanks.

We had Lunch Boxes to take on our day trip to Petra earlier this year (Legend). From memory it was a sandwich, a piece of fruit, a couple of biscuits and a bottle of water.

  10. One word of caution about taxi drivers in BA. We took one from our hotel to the port and the taxi driver took us to the commercial port and was unsure where the cruise terminal was. We ultimately got to where we wanted to go, but with some difficulty & dispute for fees. Thus, make sure the driver knows where to go.

Great advice. The good thing about http://www.buenosairestaxis.com/city-tours/ for those of us with VERY limited Spanish, is that English is their first language.
