  1. Denie: since I made my prior post in this thread, we went ahead and booked a 9 night 2019 Pacific Coast Cruise.  We would have preferred to do this in 2020, but the shorter cruises of this region in 2020 are unacceptable to us.  Our assumption is that the 2020 Pacific Coast itineraries are all released.

You might want to check out the Sony DSC RX10 or DSC RX100 series of cameras.  Technically, they are considered point and shoot cameras, but they have a lot of pro-type features.  I recently purchased a Sony DSC RX10ii with a fixed 28-200 mm zoom lens, and love it . . .  However, the RX 100 cameras are much more compact.  The RX 10 cameras are similar to DSLR cameras

I have considered both of those Sony cameras, particularly the RX100 series as I want a small form factor.  They are probably overkill for me right now.  I am looking in the $500 to $700 price range and am drawn to several Panasonic models, but I am still researching.  Thanks!

  3. Useful article as I am ready to graduate to a real camera from the limitations of my cell phone, but still looking for something compact and easy to travel with.  After some research I have already decided to stay away from a camera with detachable lenses and stick to something more point and shoot oriented.

Booked the Coastal cruise and specific cabin I wanted a little while ago too. Was happy to see them already loaded on their site. :classic_biggrin:

I was hoping to see the longer 9 night Pacific Coast itineraries for 2020 similar to those offered in 2019.  Very disappointed.

  5. Thanks to Peregrina651 and jimgri for their further comments.  I have done a bit of reading and now I am considering the Sony a6300 which looks to be a good combination of features and price for me.  I have never done much more with cameras then point and shoot, but I studied optics as part of my Master’s degree and have a firm background in the principals, so it is time to put that knowledge to use.

  6. Amazing photos and valuable info posted by jimgri.  Thank you!

i will be on the Viking NL Cruise next February and I have forwarded the photo link to my wife and two friends who are traveling with us.

We are thinking about buying a real camera (as opposed to using our phones) for this trip and for photographing the lights.  If anyone has some knowledge in this area, I would appreciate suggestions.  We are looking for nice equipment, but not high end.

  7. We sailed on the Infinity in early May.  The internet quality ranged from tolerable to terrible.  To be fair, they were having technical issues for much of the cruise.  They were nice enough to give us a partial refund for our internet package.  I am leaving on another Celebrity cruise aboard the Solstice very soon and I sure hope the internet is better.  I plan to closely following the election results, bandwidth allowing.

  8. Not about a survey, but I recently emailed Celebrity about the quality of their internet service I experienced on a cruise in May (comparing it to the internet aboard a Royal Caribbean ship in a very recent cruise I took) and I received a phone call from Celebrity just a few days later! The customer service representative was very polite and understanding and promised to pass on my comments to her higher ups. She also asked me for any other feedback I had.

This simple call will likely keep me sailing with Celebrity for years to come. I quit cruising with Regent a number of years ago because they failed to respond to a major complaint I wrote about on a post-cruise survey with them.

  9. I believe the Edge TA for April 2019 was chartered. My travel agent had a big group of people that had booked, but all got cancelled because of the charter. Must be why you aren’t able to find anything for the Edge

This has to be wrong as I am still booked on the Edge TA cruise. Can’t wait!
