  1. We are on the Reflection on Feb 17, 2017. We chose the Go Best package that gives you the Premium drink package. Do we still tip for each drink, since we did not pay the 18% service charge specifically. I will qualify that by saying we will probably not use it a lot-I can't see us having more than 6 drinks a day each and that will include one specialty coffee and 2 mineral waters and a couple of beers, pretty low maintenance.

Also are the bars on Labadee included in the drink package? I figure they will have water to grab as we go off the ship?

    Thanks!

  2. You will need a photo id to get back through the very lax customs at the foreign country. I would take my driver's license in whatever name it is in and my sea pass. The customs people will want to see a seapass to cover that they checked. They just want to know that they checked that the person is on a ship. I doubt if they compare the name on the seapass to the driver's license. If they want to get crazy about it, send your husband running for the passport that should be in your safe in the room. I doubt if it will come up, but make sure he is around you just in case. Don't take your passport into port with you.

Your plan of the space center sounds good, but I bet it gets shortened to hanging at the pool since you are taking the redeye. Rent a car, head for the hotel and get into cruise mood.

  3. Not sure I know what you mean.

We just put a cup under the spout and press one button.

Sorry to :confuse: you, but to me and others free specialty coffee implies that someone will make it for you. It may be one touch to pour out plain coffee or hot water, but I have no clue how to steam milk or all the rest that makes it specialty coffee. I guess I am just an idiot compared to you.

  4. Totally different ships offering completely different cruise experiences IMO.

Exactly. I have been on Monarch and would not even compare it to the Serenade. Totally different products, just like Navigator and Allure are different products. All RCCL so same basic product-service with a smile (mostly).

  5. I am going to do a review, but I wanted to quickly say that I would never pay suite price for those stuck in balconies again. No mirror in the front room is the least of the problems. Plumbing is funky (we had 11330 on Allure last week) and the bathroom smelled the whole time, plus forget about getting quick service when the toilet is clogged within an hour of walking in (obviously not our problem). Had to make 4 calls and finally cabin steward said he would call in the calvary and got it fixed. If you take a bath or a long hot shower, you have to do a controlled drain or you will be forced to used all the towels in the bathroom and possibly the robes in order to get it cleaned up so that you can get out of the shower.

Also another tip to people who might be in there now-put your luggage way out in the hall, not in front of your door in the little hallway to your room as not everyone knows yet that a room is back there and they might not get your luggage. And be sure to check your room bill for things like luggage valet which is free for suites and I see that they just charged to my Discover card even though I was assured they would fix it before I left the ship.

More later, but no, I would never do those again.

  6. If you are referring to my post about the line being too long when you first get on the ship if you aren't in a suite or Diamond plus that refers to them boarding first. By the time gold or first timers board that line is long. We did see the sandwhich many times. Our new tradition is to get one before Muster or a sea day lunch.

I did misunderstand. That would be a bridge too far. I doubt if I could even bring myself to do it. We will give it a shot when we get on, since we are in a suite and will be boarding as soon as we are up and around and have eaten.

  7. Great that you enjoy dressing up.

Some of us have had our fill of dressing up over the years and dressing down is a real treat. Usually we dress formal on RCCL but now even the C&A said there was no need to do so. For the first time we will be in chic casual for our b2b. Most of the time we won't be in the MDR but I think we intend to be present in the MDR on lobster night on the second cruise.

I have certainly had my fill of dressing up in the business world, too and will never wear hose or heels again in my life. If they thrill you, then wear them, but until someone pays for my cruise and clothing, they have no choice in what I wear as long as I don't intrude on their table and formal pictures-you people that want everyone to look at you need to get over yourselves.

And speaking of formal clothes and pictures, you realize that the reason they still push formal night is so they can make yet more money, renting tuxes, selling fancy clothes and selling those high dollar pictures. We were on Serenade of the Seas last year and it was too chilly to be outside on the last formal night even in the afternoon. The public spaces are small if you don't want to sit in a bar, so we were sitting in the coffee shop. We got squeezed out-there were 3 photo stations just within our view, I am sure there were more. This is just one more upsell opportunity for RCCL. They don't shame me for opting out of it, so other passengers should just keep it to themselves.

  8. If I had known that you could skip the lines for MTD with the gold suite card, I would have asked for that way back in May when I booked. I don't mind being rushed a bit, I would prefer to be alone with my parents as I have to read everything since they can't see well and it would get tedious trying to order for them and have them talk the legs off of other diners. While they love to talk to strangers, I don't go on vacations to talk to anyone other than my roommates and waiters and guides and those helpful people.

I have seen several suite reviews that reported that the cruisers had magically lost their reserved dining once aboard the boat and been bumped to MTD. I would think that RCCL would prefer it that way or at least give a clear option. I am in an aft grand suite, but if I was on 17, I might not leave 17 much on sea days. We'll see if the Coastal Kitchen is that good. We will try it the first night and if we are still hungry, we can rush down to MTD or the WJ. I think we will like it.

  9. Is there a suite line for reboarding the ship at port (I don't care, but I have old parents with me that I like to get all the shortcuts I can for)?

On our last cruise, we only went to the mdr one night because my husband hates it and my parents love the WJ. I felt really bad for the couple that had to sit at a table for 6 all week without us, as they had obviously picked a big table to make friends. I would like to avoid that this time, but just found out that suite passengers can bypass the lines at MTD. I have 6pm dining and would always be dining at about that time, but might like to leave it open for a little later as my parents can be slow. Can I just ask the concierge to do that for me now via email (ship sails this Sunday), or just wait till I am on the ship?

Also, I have a shore excursion booked in Nassau to the Blue Lagoon, but now it looks like rain in the morning. How late can I cancel that and get my money back?

    Thanks guys.

  10. Hi,

My family and I are traveling on the Allure on June 26, 2016 and are looking to book our flights. My question is:

How long does it take to disembark?

I want to see if we can catch a 10:40 am flight out of Ft. Lauderdale?

    Thanks:)

You will probably make it fine if you walk off early, but if you want to use luggage valet you can't because the cutoff is 11:30 in FLL.

  11. I am sure there are a couple of soft serve machines on the pool deck and in the WJ but is there anywhere except Scoops to get scooped ice cream (I am tired and my mind is blanking on what to call it, sorry) on the ship-like for snacks during the day? Also what are the chances of root beer if I don't have a soda package?

  12. I was a travel agent for several years and worked for TWA for several more. I have seen disastrous things happen and I totally understand where you are coming. I personally still am angry at United about something that happened in 1985 or so and won't fly them unless forced to, so I understand.

I've never been on Princess, but I do really like RCCL. I have had a few bad experiences due to waiters being creeps in the mdr and at the coffee shop, but the vast majority of the people working on those ships are working their hearts out trying to make sure you are having a good time. They mean it or they are amazing fakers.

That said, I think you need to go ahead and take the longer cruise with the easier access to the departure and the free drink package. I'd do that just for the fresh squeezed juice in the mornings.

  13. You doing 9 weeks of cruising or 9 b2bs? Sounds wonderful either way-enjoy! I would have to enjoy the beaches at the ports. Maybe not every stop.

It sounds amazing to me but my husband would flip out! He did mention that he wants to retire to somewhere warmer than MO, but must be close to water. I don't think he would consider a balcony as close to water since he wants to freshwater fish.

You are so lucky that you are both good with this because it sounds like a dream come true to me and a clever way to avoid doing housework in a condo in Florida.
