  1. You should contact the two day trip operators out of Whittier. Both 26 Glaciers (http://www.26glaciers.com) and Major Marine (http://www.majormarine.com) offer boat trips that are coordinated with cruise ship departures. You can take the bus or the train from Anchorage to Whittier, take a 5 hour cruise, and return in time to board the cruise ship. Both depart right next to the dock the cruise ship uses in Whittier. Well worth your time.

That's what I am going to do. We are looking at a hotel close to the train station. Take the train which according to 26glaciers.com, will get us their in time for either of their cruises.

I also believe if you are on Princess, when you drop your luggage off at the train depot you don't touch it again until it reaches your cabin. It's a little more than the bus but only by about $20 pp.

  2. If you self-disembark in the first group (you can request this at Passenger Services if they don't assign it to you) and take Sky Train you should be okay for an 11:30 a.m. flight.

If possible, do online flight check-in and print your boarding passes the day before while on the ship (anything to speed up the process at the airport end) because you never know if there'll be unexpected delays.

Thanks. Princess through their air service would let me book anything after 10:15AM so I am pretty sure it would be okay. My flights were one of the options they offered, of course about $300 pp more than priceline.

  3. Looking at an 11:30AM flight to Dallas and then on to Indianapolis on Saturday, July 19.

I've searched this forum and the comments seem to be mixed but also pretty old.

    Is that doable?

We will be coming in the Crown Princess and have no problem self-disembarking. Plan on catching the Sky Train.

Our flight options are limited unless we want to do redeye and get back home at 10AM on Sunday.

    Thank you.

  4. I answered your question accurately and promptly especially as this experienced cruiser had to figure out what port you were talking about since you did not state it in your post. I also suggested an alternative way of finding out out the information you needed even though I had already answered your question. You posted your question at 2:13 and I answered it at 2:36.

Don't know how much more you could have wanted.

    DON

I thought you were being snarky. My apologies.

  5. You won't be able to get off the ship in Whittier until the tunnel out of town opens in the morning around 6am.

    Thanks.

Yeah, I see that now. I was hoping to catch a 7:30AM flight out of Anchorage to get home that day instead of next but see that won't be an option now.

    Oh well.

  6. Thanks Don.

You're right, I could have called the cruise line. And you could have ignored my question.

I thought the purpose of the board was to ask more experienced cruisers questions. I guess I was mistaken.

  7. One of our potential cruise choices on Princess has disembarkation at 12:30AM.

Do they still force everybody off a couple hours after Disembarkation even if the next cruise doesn't leave until 8:30PM?

  8. Regardless of which gate you end up leaving from, a flight to any Canadian destination will not require you to go through US immigration at YVR. All the major airports in Canada have US staff on-site to process you including Calgary (see this map - there's a wee US flag right in the middle for the location)

Although a noon flight should be just fine even if you decide on a route that does go YVR>somewhere in the US>Chicago and would need to go through the extra layer of security & paperwork in YVR.

    Thank you.

  9. We may end up taking an Air Canada flight from Vancouver to Calgary and then to Chicago. It looks like all the Air Canada flights to Calgary depart from C concourse.

So I assume we would go through customs in Calgary not Vancouver, correct?

    It's a noon flight after a 7:30 disembarkation.

    Thank you

  10. Flying into YVR very late from the east coast the night before our cruise. We won't be landing till 1030pm so I really don't see the point of paying a premium to stay downtown.

I'm looking for a hotel convenient to the airport and the sky train for up to $150-$175.

    Any suggestions?

    The Radisson looks good.

  11. I'm considering renting a car in Vancouver and taking a flight out of Seattle. I've searched but can't find recent border crossing updates.

I figure I can be leaving downtown Vancouver by 9am.

Would a 250pm flight be pushing it? Looks like most posts say it can take up to 4 hours with border crossing. That should put me at the airport by 1.

It will be on Sat. July 19.

    Is that a reasonable assumption?

    Thank you

  12. Any reason to have not included or considered RCI's Radiance a north or southbound ?...Love the Friday departures/returns and the itinerary ;)

Sorry you've had to reschedule your May cruise that's our favorite time..Doing it again for the 3rd time May 30th.

Enjoy whatever works out well for you :)

Glacier Bay National park is a must for us. RCI doesn't enter the park.

Leaning towards paying the extra and doing Princess vs. HAL. That way we get either College Fjord or Hubbard Bay.

  13. Hello everyone.

We've had to change our Alaska sail date from late May on NCL to a specific week in July. Much more expensive but it is what it is.

I consider Glacier Bay a must and would prefer Inside Passage as well. (I would appreciate comments on the value of using the Inside Passage as well.)

With Glacier Bay being a must, NCL is out. They don't do Glacier Bay the week we need to go.

So that leaves 2 options with Princess and 2 with HAL. I've been on HAL 3x before.

The 2 Princess options both include Glacier Bay, Inside Passage and then either College Fjord (Northbound on Coral) or Hubbard Glacier (Southbound on Crown).

HAL does Glacier Bay and Inside Southbound (Oosterdam) or Vancouver R/T (Zuiderdam).

HAL is about $400 cheaper. Airfare is a wash.

This will be our first time to Alaska.

Opinions? Is the extra money with either Hubbard or College Fjord?

    Thank you.

  14. I am considering one of these two cabins for an Alaskan cruise.

In looking at a few pics, it looks like there is an extended partition between cabins for privacy.

For those that have been in these, how much of the view do these kill? Seems like they may create a tunnel effect.

See pics in post #13 and #22.

    Thank you.

  15. I tried to get one for an upcoming cruise and they were sold out. But I was told by ship services that they hold two for daily rental purposes. Honestly not sure if I believe that.

But I will be sure to check at the Neptune Lounge as soon as I get on board. Fingers crossed.
