  1. I generally wear clothing with no pockets while on cruises (dresses and skirts). And I dislike lanyards. So I carry a very small purse, usually a wristlet type, for my S&S card, tissues, cash for tips, Germ-X wipes, FunTimes tear-off (when this existed:rolleyes:), etc. Everybody is different, but this is the best option for me.:)

    Me as well

  2. Just wanted to give you all an update on how our snorkeling went. :) Four of us went and we all loved it! One of us got a little chilly but for the most part it was not that cold at all. I would do it again for sure! ;)

Thank you for the update, I'm glad it worked out.

  3. Wise choice. Since PG doesn't have the same easy metro connection as SF and Las Ramblas, who'd be centering your trip around the Parc visit and would have to skimp on the others.

This plan will give you time to see more of Barcelona. After visiting the Sagrada, you could stroll up the P. de Gaudi to L'hospital St Crue St Pau. A beautiful ex-hospital campus and the largest Art Nouveau building complex in the world On your tight schedule, you can skip going in for the tour and just look at it from through the gates and the courtyard, maybe eat at the Cafe 1902 Modernista.

In May we stayed three nights at a hotel near Placa de Catalunya. Las Ramblas was interesting, but was probably our least favorite place in Barcelona. Too crowded, too touristy, too many people sticking their arm out for selfies. Worth a visit, but we preferred the quieter and more interesting streets of the Bario Gotic and El Raval. La Boqueria market is a must-see, and just behind it is the medieval complex of the Catalan National Library. The cathedral of Barcelona is another must-see, and the streets of the Bario are amazing. We did a circuit of the Roman wall. Just over a mile walk and took about two hours, including the cathedral visit and many of stops.

Make sure you include a visit the Placa de Catalunya. Have coffee at the Cortes Ingleis and enjoy the view. If you want more Gaudi, wander up Passeig de Gracia to Casa Batllo and/or Casa Mila. Lots of other interesting architecture on the way.

    Barcelona was amazing. Have fun.

Thank you for this information. We're staying likely at the same hotel you did, and would enjoy a quieter walk. We've been to BCN before.

  4. It's the PNE, I doubt anyone would know what you were talking about if you said "summer fair." As others have stated you'll see all of what you asked for, every time I smell frying onions outdoors I think of the PNE!

"Win a house, win a car!"

You'll understand this last part if you go!

  5. Thanks Kelly - I am only there for two days - fly in Thursday morning and back to Vancouver on Saturday morning.

Having re-looked at a few of the websites I think I will stick to my original plan and use the car to go to Elk Falls etc., everyone gives the park a great review. My only worry is when one reviewer mentioned seeing 5 black bears! Now I want to see bears on my trip to BC and Alaska but nor when I'm walking around on my own - thoughts?

    Cheers

    Pat

I wouldn't worry about bears, there's usually enough people around that they are long gone. You can always take a bear bell. When you drive to the interpretive centre be sure to go in and watch the video of the new dam. Back in the 50's my Uncle came from Scotland to work on this dam, this is what brought our family to Canada, my brother is now working on this new project. It's very interesting.

  6. Thanks Kelly. I am staying at the Comfort Inn & Suites on Shoppers Row. Still undecided, maybe I could rent a car just for the one day I'm not on the tour and get to Elk Falls - not sure I can do a suspension bridge these days - couldn't make it over the Capilano Suspension Bridge last year :-(

Or should I spend the day in town and wander around the harbour etc.,? Decisions, decisions :-)

    Thanks

    Pat

That's a very nice looking new hotel. Remind me again how long are you in town for? There's not too much to see downtown but certainly you are close to things. If you don't want to rent I'd suggest the wander and then go to the pier for an ice cream cone, they make their own waffle cones, so yummy. The pier opened about three weeks before our second baby was born, it was a favourite place to go while awaiting my July baby!

You could always catch a cab to the museum or even walk, not really all that far. The suspension bridge isn't nearly as long as Capilano but I still had to take a deep breath!

  7. I am still going to CR next month pre my Alaskan cruise but now wondering whether hiring a car for just two days, when I will be on a tour for one whole day, is the right thing to do.

Will I get transport easily to take me from airport to hotel, hotel to harbour etc., is it a walkable town or do I stick with the car hire and get myself out there?

    Comments appreciated.

    Thanks

    Pat

We just spent two weeks in the CR area. What hotel are you staying at? CR is a small town so it's easy to get around. Renting a car depends on what you want to do when not on your tour. If you want to go to Elk Falls and the suspension bridge then you'd need one. The bridge is really cool and an easy hike from the interpretive centre.

We were at Browns Bay for the past week, lots of cruise ships and whales, just beautiful.

We did the Ripple Rock hike a few days ago, I wouldn't recommend doing it alone and you'd most definitely need a car if you do decide to do it. Gorgeous view of the Narrows.

I would highly recommend the museum, it's very well done.

  8. Ive read that as well. I would love to see a copy :)

I didn't take any pictures of the menus, I like to be surprised! There were a lot of British inspired dishes, I couldn't even tell you what they were but I do recall noticing it. I do remember trifle for dessert one night.

  9. Ok well that is not very encouraging. :( I sure hope it is better than you all think it will be! :P

Sorry I'm not trying to be discouraging, I've honestly never heard of anyone snorkelling here. If you're thinking about snorkelling in Brentwood Bay I'd be happy to go down the hill and talk to the folks. I'm about a 1 minute drive to the dock.

I'd be very interested to hear how you make out, but do wear a wet suit, it's not the Caribbean!
