  1. Thanks Orvil for all of that information. Will certainly make use of the QG lounge, as you say you have to spend the onboard credit somewhere, especially since I read the in-room bar is also complimentary although not sure if that includes in-room wine?? Am very much looking forward to experiencing the QG dining experience too - by the sound of it we are in for a treat 😀

  2. Hi David,

My heart stopped beating when I started reading your post! Paying all that $$ only to be kept awake by barking dogs at sea : could not think of a worse nightmare!! Your poor friends - ear plugs just would not cut it! Would certainly be a deal breaker for us!

Having never done a crossing before this did not even cross our minds - Thankfully once again we are on part of the world cruise so will not effect us. We are going on Brisbane to Hong Kong in March next year. You certainly brought up a good point though and will keep it in mind if we ever do a crossing especially since I have read QM2 will be adding another 5 kennels during the dry dock in June! Sounds like even more people will suffer!!!

  3. Hi Mudhen,

Good to hear from a well seasoned QG traveller on the QM2. After reading Deck 11 QG are your favorites I will not give our cabin choice a second thought. Thank you! The close proximity to the Q Grill Terrace is what drew us to choosing it - having experienced it as a PG passenger we loved it - as you said just a few strides away: we won't need to go far to reach our favorite spot :) Sounds like we were lucky to have got it as it was the only QG left on Deck 11 at time of booking. As you say, most of them are on Deck 9 - I'm sure it won't be too tough to take on your next upcoming cruise!!!

  4. Hi RemPuck,

Thanks for your post. I see your suite is directly across from 11151 so your feedback is greatly appreciated. Looks like we made a good choice! It will be our third time on QM2 but first time in QG, only having experienced PG before. Would love to hear about some of the 'perks' you experienced in QG that will be new to us :)

  5. Thanks Pepper! Had not even thought about the handy location of the lifts so good to know. Have always gone to the Commodore's Lounge for pre-dinner cocktails in the past. I noted you mentioned pre-dinner cocktails - are they also served in the Grills lounge? I know they serve afternoon tea in the grills lounge (which by the way we always found was of a higher quality than the afternoon tea served in Brittania) but was not aware of pre-dinner cocktails being served there? We love the view from the Commodore's lounge so wonder if there is any advantage of going to the grills lounge pre-dinner? Are drinks served with canapes perhaps??

  6. Thank you so much for your quick response.

Thank you also for your opinion - I agree 100% per cent. The photos were much appreciated, as I now understand fully what others meant by 'overhang'. I need not worry about it and am happy with our choice of suite after reading your posting and looking through your photos. As you say, we can get sun on the grills deck that is so close by and retreat to our suite if we want to enjoy the outdoors under shade in the privacy of our balcony. I also read that the overhang gives protection against wind which will also be a bonus. Thanks again for resting my mind about our choice!

  7. Hi, was wanting opinions of those who have stayed in the Queens Grill Q5 Category cabin 11151 on deck 11 or one close by re the overhang I have read about from deck 12. Want to know if balcony is in total shade all day and how people found it to be. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Also, have traveled on QM2 before but never on Queens Grill - will we find much difference from when we traveled in a Princess Grill? Thanks in advance.

  8. Thank you for your response guys. Good to know they are still selling same type of jewellery on board Princess at least - glimmer of hope for me maybe! Will go through old photos and see what I can find. Thank you. I have also visited the website you suggested but the particular necklace is not shown there so have emailed them and will wait to see if any luck. Funny because the matching bracelet I have to it is still showing. In fact can find bracelet on several sites but no luck at all with the necklace! Should have lost the bracelet instead ... gruhhh The good news is that my husband's response to all of this was "what's the worst thing that can happen if you can't get one : I will have to take you on another Princess cruise to get something else" Pretty good since we only just got off the QM2 this week !!

  9. We will just make the most of it now. Happy it is mid-ship at least. I booked in a hurry with a travel agent and asked for a balcony cabin and was not informed the fare I had paid for was for an obstructed view cabin - found out later just by chance when I phoned Cunard. Really stupid on my part, I know!! Planning to just go with the flow and not stress over it now.

I did love being in a Princess Suite on deck 10 the last time. Can't beat spending some afternoon time sitting on your own deck chair reading a book whilst afternoon tea is brought out to you on your balcony!! Felt very spoilt. The last cruise on the QM2 was for a special occasion where as this time it was just a bargain we could not resist so certainly cannot complain!

  10. Thanks Kruizefan, unfortunately think we are stuck with it. Booked last minute and could only get 'guarantee' cabin and as of yesterday this cabin number got allocated to us! Going to be a bit hard as last time we sailed on the QM2 we were in a princess suite! I don;t think we are going to like it at all but I guess you get what you pay for and besides I don't see any way I can change it now! Any ideas?

  11. Thanks Pushka. We leave Sydney on Feb 19th.

Jill, our check-in closing time is 5pm according to our docs. Like you, we are getting dropped off around 1pm. Ideally we too like to have lunch, have a walk around the ship and unpack in the afternoon but was told only the 'grills' bookings and platinum and gold Cunard members are 'allowed' midday boarding. Oh dear, we are only Silver members and I don't think that comes with any benefits whatsoever - have sailed on QM2 one other time but was lucky enough to be in a Princess Suite - so we were looked after very well that time. Am hoping they don't treat 'regular' passengers like second class citizens all the way! We are about to find out!

  12. Thank you for your replies - much appreciated.

Also phoned Cunard today and was only told the 'official' info - "only turn up when your e-ticket tells you your check in time is" However, will take your advice and head over somewhere after 1.30pm to give the midday 'priority' boarding queue a chance to get cleared a little before attempting to approach. Won't make lunch as I have done on other cruises I have sailed on but might make afternoon tea with any luck :)

Other question I had for Cunard was in regards to ship departure time from Circular Quay : "depends on many factors" was their answer and was only told a window of 3 hours!!! Funny that all other cruises have scheduled departure times LOL. Too bad if friends wanted to watch you sail out!! - Let's hope the staff on board are more informed and helpful!!

  13. Hi there,

Can anyone tell me if Cunard enforces allocated boarding time in Sydney for the QM2. Have been given a 4pm check in on our docs and would prefer to board the ship earlier in the afternoon, will this be allowed or will we just be left waiting if we turn up early? Otherwise, can we put bags through a couple of hours before we board the ship?
