  1. A cruise is the best time to try new things. A lot of the food will go to waste anyway. You can always ask for a smaller portion of items.

My 10 year old has turned into a little foodie. He's an amazing eater who loves good and healthy foods. It has nothing to do with my parenting skills, lol. It was actually cruise ships that got him into it. He couldn't wait to eat grown up fancy foods and there is no risk about trying things on a cruise ship. :)

Imo, while I understand the guilt, it's your vacation and a cruise is the best time to try new things.

  2. 1) The coffee makers in the room are they just one cup and does the ship provide the coffee? I don't know. We were in an inside room and they didn't have them.

    2) If you eat in the specialty restaurant, are you charged Ala cart prices or just the service charge but are limited to just one choice per entree? Do not know, this changed since I was on

    3) Is iced tea available 24/7 and/or where is it available? Yes but it's not brewed so pretty gross

    4) I can't believe that lobster is only available at the buffet, is that really true? Some of the up charge restaurants have lobster

    5) ON old MDR men us I see something like a sirloin filet or whatever listed as the steak..Are filets gone? Do now know

    6) Room service is 7.95 charge and a very limited menu? Yes 😠

  3. I also make my own first aid kit. Someone always gets a stomach or headache. I put in sea sick meds, stomach/pepto meds, pain releavers, bug spray, band aids, antibiotic and antihistamine cream, a couple Clorox wipes to wipe down room, a couple tiny cuts of a sponge that was soaked in dish soap and laundry soap so I can hand wash clothes or cups of needed. Next time I will bring Benadryl. Never had a food allergy in my life but had one last time and it was expensive on ship. And baggies.

Multi usb charger and One small extension cord so phone can be my bed which doubles as alarm clock and flash light.

I no longer bother with highlighters, I use the ship ap. Or clothes pins, the shower string works just fine for me.

My other must have is one of those floating things you wear around your neck to hold money and cards. I never feel safe leaving them on the beach unattended. So that way j can swim with.

  4. It depends on the kid. Mine is 10 and not a huge fan of the kids clubs.

That being said I do request some adult time and so he knows ahead of time he will have to go. When he does go, he has a good time. He just prefers the pool and outside deck. It's mostly joined activities but the staff are very good at getting the kids involved. They also have some really cool events. My son was sad he missed the show where they went on stage.

Even if your child is apprehensive, they never have a bad time in there. Just plan on it ahead of time.

  5. We went on the Getaway last year. That ship and the crew were the best we have ever had. But I was not planning on going back as long as NCL did things this way. We did buy an UDP and enjoyed the restaurants but I refused to purchase room service. We enjoyed the restaurants but NCL left a bad taste in my mouth when they had made a change to the kids dining while I was already on the ship.

I am going back next week because there was a deal too good to pass up. But now the dining has changed again. This time we are dining at the included restaurants only. No OBS for us.

That being said, I used to travel Disney and no longer do because they are twice as much as everyone else. And I chose this cruise because the deal was half the cost of rccl and ncl's normal price. So I'm not sure I have the right to complain.

I think they could go about things better. I don't mind a general up charge or package for restaurants. But hate the ala carte. And I'm REALLY annoyed by charging room service. Maybe I just get used to the standards.

  6. It will be very tight with 4. But doable and if it's what your cheap hubby says you can afford, lol, you'll still have a good time. I've been in an inside room with just my 10 year old and we had plenty of space. There's a good amount of storage space. You will be fine. Enjoy your vacation!

PS the bunks do hold adult weight and are right over top the bottom. So you'll be able to figure it out.

  7. I'm concerned about the wet suit. I weigh about 215 and I know they have one in my size so that part is fine, although I feel shy about wearing one and being over weight. But what should I do about what to wear under it? All of my bathing suits are the shorts and skirts kind and the tops are lose.

Do I need to buy a tight fitting bathing suit to wear under? And if so, do you have to shower and put it on in front of other people?

    :(

  8. We are sailing on Sunday and have booked both Sting Ray and Island tour with the turtle farm with Captain Marvin. Don't know if it was he who answered our emails, but they have been very prompt and courteous. Have heard great reviews about this tour so we are very much looking forward to it.

    Cheers

    Len

We had so much fun with them. I'm gonna use them again next Sunday. We did the turtles and stingrays too. It's my fav excursion.

  9. I went on the Getaway a year ago and even back then they were making a bunch of changes. I just got a good deal to go again in a week and a half so just want to check and see if anything I should be aware of. I totally get NCL nickel and dimes because they did that to me last year. So not I'm not fussing, just want a heads up of anything new I should know about.

I'm in an inside guarantee room with no packages and not planning to eat in any specialities since I did that last time.

    1. I assume they are still charging for room service?

    2. Has any of the Getaways free restaurants now charging fees? I can't remember the free ones other than Taste, Savor, and the buffet.

    3. Can I still bring my own soda?

Im assuming there isn't anything else that will effect me directly but want to check.

  10. I have had the same issue in Cozumel. THEN, he started falling asleep at the wheel. Scared the heck out of me and totally put me off Cozumel. I am hoping for a better experience this next time around. :(

Any beaches nearby where I can avoid their taxis?
