  1. On the MSC preziosa now and I can't get wifi sharing to work. I'm sharing from a Samsung S10 plus, testing with an ipad and a laptop. I have been doing this at other places and royal caribbean ships without problems, but here - nothing.

I can do DNS lookups, but I can't connect to or ping the ip addresses. For example, from my phone I can ping google dns 8.8.8.8, but from my laptop I get Request timed out.

So I assume MSC must be blocking it somehow, maybe related to TTL or some other giveaway in IP packages sent through my phone/NAT.

  2. If ships now sail at half capacity, I would think that they would upgrade all interior GTYs to outside balconies, just to give people a taste of it and hopefully they will pay full price next time.

It doesn't cost them anything, and it's just good customer service and makes sense from a marketing point of view.

We have a cruise on Harmony in October, booked 1 oceanfacing balcony GTY and 1 oceanview GTY, excited to see what we will get. As it's the same reservation / they are linked, I would hope they put the oceanview close to us, or perhaps upgrade us to connecting balconies. That would be awesome.

A junior suite would be too much to hope for, I know..

  3. We too enjoyed the frozen mojito on the ship, and it's easy to make your own. Blend icecubes, 6-10 large mint leafs, 6cl rum, 2 cl sugar sirup and the juice of 1 lime.  Might have to adjust the proportions a little according to amount of ice, preference etc, but that should get you going. Experimenting has never tasted so good as this 🙂

  4. We are docking in Falmouth from 10:30 to 19:00 and are looking into doing a private tour. They all say it will be customized to our preferences, but what should we request that we see? Haven't decided if we are doing a 4 or 6 hour tour, but we have plenty of time to spare. We would like to avoid large tourist traps/crowds if possible, what would you recommend we see?

We are adults in the rage 28-63, so quite a diverse range.

I read somewhere that a private tour could beat the rush to some spots like dunns river falls, so we could be there before the rest of the cruise ship tours, is that true? Then it might be more tempting.

Timewise, that I could find, the docking times for the other ships in Jamaica that day are:

    Nieuw Statendam: 08:00-16:00

    Carnival Vista: 09:00-18:00

    Carnival Sensation: 10:00-17:00

Harmony of the Seas: 10:30 (us!)

    MSC Armonia: 13:00-19:00

So I guess beating the crowds might be hard either way?

  5. Just now, Host Clarea said:

Where did you see that both apps are supposed to work on Harmony?

well the Royal IQ used to work, and then they added support in the Royal App. But it never said something about stopping support for Royal IQ 🙂

I see now on the Royal IQ app page that is says:

Please note, Royal iQ only works onboard Quantum, Anthem and Ovation

So only the new app it is

  6. I have been on several cruises, where they suggest you upload a photo. Haven't done it yet as it seems too much of a hastle. I have also read reports that they take you picture anyway, so why bother.

Not much of a hassle, and having everything done for everyone (photos, waivers and payment) really speeds things along. We were curb to ship in 5 minutes.

  7. Not talking about the Esta, never have that with me, but the I-95 arrival record which the ship may need to see how long we are allowed to stay in the US.

According to what I can see online, an I-94 arrival record is not issued for ESTA-travelers.

Foreign visitors to the U.S. arriving via air or sea no longer need to complete paper Customs and Border Protection Form I-94 Arrival/Departure Record or Form I-94W Nonimmigrant Visa Waiver Arrival/Departure Record. Those who need to prove their legal-visitor status—to employers, schools/universities or government agencies—can access their CBP arrival/departure record information online.

CBP now gathers travelers’ arrival/departure information automatically from their electronic travel records. Because advance information is only transmitted for air and sea travelers, CBP will still issue a paper form I-94 at land border ports of entry.

  8. We have cruised twice with Royal Caribbean out of Florida and have never had this happen. I have to check my passport when I get home but I believe I had one stamp from the first visit, and the next time we used the machines. No trouble at all checking in.

The only sad part is that the queue for non-APC-users at the airport is sometimes faster.. so much for being effective!

We visited Miami with relatives in february, and having been there before, travelling with ESTA, we used the APC-machines and queued up. Our relatives travelling to the US for the first time got sent to a short queue and was through 15-30 minutes before us :-(

  9. While I have never sailed on Princess, I have done a few ship tours and my impression is the average Princess cruiser is older and there is a less youthful ambience. Hard to explain, but I talked to the Princess PR manager and he confirmed. Nothing wrong with that, but being 42 I just felt out of place and too young. The aft pools on Sapphire Princess (that I toured this summer) was very lovely though. Service seemed fine, friendly faces all around. If you like afternoon tea you will love Princess. If you prefer bar-hopping and drinking bahama mamas, go for Royal :-)

  10. I liked Love at sea more than Like Father.

They are both aren't great in terms of scenario, but the first shows everything that goes on the ship better.

    Agree.

Love at sea was really cheesy but they really showcased the ship. I found it just a bit ridiculous that they had fastened a royal caribbean flag to a junction box or something outside when they were standing there. Could be somewhere on the jogging track. And they had a "ship office" sticker on the doors into the rear elevatorbank.. :-D

However, Like Father was a better movie IMHO. I enjoyed it more for the story.

  11. Considering buying shares now, at $113 (it went up 5% yesterday!) but does it mean that if my cruise was discounted in any way I will not get shareholder benefits? There is always a sale, but we didn't get any OBC. Only gratuities is always included here, not sure if that will disqualify. Might as well go ahead and try and see what they say. With the dividend I don't have much to lose. :-)

  12. Anywhere from 10 to 45 minutes. You can order sodas, but you will be charged for them. No beverages from room service are covered by beverage packages.

I hoped they would change this, as they now charge for room service. I could be willing to pay for delivere for a few drinks with the beverage package.

  13. 10 feet is about right, but there's also probably a 1.5- foot wall in between each one. So I might add another 15-20 feet. If just walking to the elevator is a concern, this individual may need a mobility device like a scooter or wheelchair, because Harmony is HUGE. After you get off the elevator, there are literally hundreds of feet between you and food, dining rooms, shops, guest services, restrooms, theaters, etc. The ship is a little over 362 meters (1,188 ft) in length from bow to stern. You WILL get a lot of steps in on this, or any, modern cruise ship.

I know, have been on all except Symphony :-)

That's why we are going for the rear elevator banks. Shortest distance to MDR, windjammer, boardwalk, promenade and central park. Everything within a short distance, except the solarium.
