  1. I was unlucky. Tried it on Harmony, and the cocktail tasted a bit off. Also, found out that they apprently were out of orange juice, as when I tested to order just 5 parts orangejuice it was basically water that came out.

Will try it again in september to see if things have improved

  2. I agree, don't sweat the small stuff. I'm going on a cruise and I will enjoy it no matter what! This year willbe tbe first with a premium package and no work, and I plan to enjoy it to the fullest.

Perhaps I should tell my missus that if I ever complain about something she should run and get me a shot! *laughs*

But seriously, if you can't change your surroundings, change how you react to them. That is a good motto to live by

  3. I am also booked on Harmony the end of November and that Cruise Planner isn't showing the puzzle room either! All the other entertainment is there so I called Royal again and was told to book it after I board.

Remember that it is listed under activities, not entertainment. So check again regularely. Our cruise is less than 2 months out and it is still bookable on our cruise

  4. Not really helpful.

Again, what is a puzzle room?

It's like a teamwork mystery solving game

You are presented with a backstory.

You are "locked" into a room or series of rooms

In this room you have to look for clues and solve puzzles related to the story that ends up with you finding the key/way out

In the case of Harmony of the Seas, you are all crewmembers on the starship Rubicon, the first steam driven starship. Suddenly, something goes wrong..

  5. They require a minimum of 6 participants for the game to take place (6 are required for one of the puzzles), and the group size can be up to 12.

Hmm, I don't recall any of the puzzles require 6 persons. Care to refresh my memory? Some sort of hint without spoiling it for those who haven't done it :-)

I saw that we can book it online for our upcoming september cruise, but as we have already done it once there's no point. If it turns out to be a success perhaps they will add more rooms / change it in the future.

  6. Any captain who gets me there safely!

Seriously, most of the "favorites" are based on personality and interaction with the passengers. More important though is the ability to make correct decisions in face of potential danger. When that becomes the prime factor, few if any of us, have the information to make a rational decision.

Oh, you are talking about Captain Obvious! He's my favourite too :-)

  7. I don't listen super closely to the announcement that says "Muster drill starts in 15 minutes, go when the horn blasts" I normally just here "Muster drill starts in 15 minutes" and then look at my room card and start to head there. I don't listen t othe exact phrasing of the announcement. Plus, it's very difficult to hear exactly what is being said on those pre muster announcements anyhow.

Ah, sorry, my mistake, I though you didn't pay attation to any of it. :-)

  8. I just have never really paid that much attention to what the announcement actually says.

    ..

Muster drills, the worst part of a 7 day cruise  I can live with that

You should pay attention. It may be the most boring part, but it may save your life one day :-)

Whenever I board a ship I familiarize with where our stateroom is located and roughly how far the closest stairwells and exit to nearest open deck is. Whenever disaster happens I might not have time to study the deckplan or even have light to do so. I hope I never will need this information.

  9. On our first cruise on Allure we were in the stateroom when the alarm sounded. Outside crew members directed us to use the crew staircase down if I remember correctly. However, on the most recent Norwegian Escape and Harmony cruises it seemed like they wanted people to be at the station before the drill.

I have a theory as to why: they are cheating!

A muster drill, like all fire/evacuation drills is an indicator on how they would perform in an emergency. Airplanes have a requirement that they should be fully evacuated in X seconds. I wouldn't be surprised that the cruise lines are facing similar demands (90% of passengers accounted for in 5 minutes?) or something like that, and by having most passengers at the muster station before they sound the horns their numbers look good.

It also seems that not nearly everyone gets to the muster station. I asked the guy responsible for our post how many were missing from his terminal and there was quite a few.

I'm try to remember to ask how many on Harmony next time

  10. For drink packages, here is what you do: first (or second..) day, drink what you want and pay as you go. The next day, check you stateroom tv for how much you spent. If it's more than the daily cost of the package, you buy the package for the rest of the cruise. You don't have to have it for the entire cruise.

We went on Allure, adult couple, no kids, enjoyed it very much. Try the flowrider!

  11. Are you going to have the sodas in addition to the wine at dinner? Are you going to have the sodas during the day? You might be. Keep in mind port days though. Any drinking you'd normally have on the ship during the day would have to be made up elsewhere.

From experience I will have soda for breakfast, lunch, dinner.. so yes the package is worth it :-) I usually fill up the souvenir cup before going ashore as well

  12. I would like to add my input as well, I guess as a medium drinker?

We purchased the premium package with 20% discount for our upcoming mediterranean cruise. Normally I don't like to drink so much alcohol when it's warm, I'd rather stick to the nonalcoholic cocktails. However, we did the following reasoning. I know I would get at least a soda package, as I enjoy the freestyle machines and having 2-3 sprite during dinner.

The following prices are what I see in the cruise-planner, converted from my local currency. Drink prices are approximate:

    Premium package: $48/day

    - Soda package: $10/day

What I pay extra per day: $38

What I plan to drink on an average day:

1 glass of sparkling wine for dinner, $10

2 cocktails during in the evening, $12 each

2 non-alcoholic cocktails in the whirlpool, $5 each

    Total: $44/day

So for me, with what I would call light drinking, and with the 20% discount, the package is worth it. I come out at $6/day ahead ($44-$38)

The prices of wine and cocktails have risen quite a bit the past few years so a package makes more sense now than it did in the beginning. When we first went on the allure I believe it was 6 cocktails/day that was the breaking point. Now it is less.

  13. I will say, getting on CC forum is a little overwhelming.

I agree with that! There is so much text and buttons on the site that it can be a bit too much at first.

And please, don't be put of, it's a wonderful knowledgable community once you get the hang of it.

    Here's a quick search primer:

    1) Go to the Royal Caribbean forum. (that should be this one)

You can see all of the recent discussions listed.

    2) On the top right of the discussion-list, there is a small button that says "search this forum". Press it and enter: water galveston

    3) Press Go

Now, it might not be the first thread that pops up, but you should find several discussions (or threads as they are called) about bringing things out of galveston.

I wish you the best of cruise and hope that you will stick around cruisecritic both before your cruise to get more information and after to share what you know.

    Kind regards,

  14. Ughhhh! People are so rude

It's not rude to remind people that there is a search-function. I think it's more rude to ask a question that has been answered thoroughly in the past. The amount of posts in this subforum alone is so much that threads are pushed to page 2 during a day. Unless one stop by several times a day there is no way to read it all :-)

That being said, we put 2 x 12-packs of soda in a beach bag, taped a luggage tag to it, and had it arrive in our room. Port Everglades.

And, you can bring 2 bottles of wine.

    Enjoy your cruise!

  15. I don't believe they would use a household brand name, but something industrial or something sold under a different name. So not sure if knowing the name would do you any good. It would most likely be the same as your last cruise, so pack some hydrocortisone cream incase you get it again, or bring your own sheet covers to be safe
