  1. I've only been on one cruise and a cruise coming up on 14/4/26. Both have been or will be, with Carnival and the same ship.

    My reasons for loving Carnival.

    1. Atmosphere

    2. Drinking

    3. Price

    4. Drinking

    5. Food

    6. Drinking

    7. The people

    8. Drinking

    9. Food

    and finally

    10. Drinking

Oh yeah, most bang for the buck.

I love cruising and drinking lol

    :D

haha you have the same motivations and goals during a cruise as my wife and I! The guy with the bloody mary cart out by the pool in the moring has saved my life on many occasions! ;)

  2. Carnival was the line that I took my first cruise on and I have never sailed with another line. Part of it is pricing, just being honest. I am able to cruise more often because the price is a little lower than others.

Since I have taken numerous cruises with Carnival, I know what to expect and I have just gotten confortable with them. I use the same PVP, who knows what I like and don't like, and have even had crewmembers on different ships remember our names and even what kind of beer we like!

I have never had a REALLY bad experience with Carnival so I have no reason not to keep sailing with them. My wife and I make our own fun on a cruise so I think a lot of the things that people complain about with regards to Carnival don't really matter that much to us.

The ships provide a fun atmosphere, and as long as you don't worry about things like table cloths and crowds at the pool, you can still really enjoy yourself.

  3. I was wondering who has ever been upgraded, not a upsell but a upgrade that you didn't have to pay extra for? Ours was in 2003 on the Carnival Paradise when it was a 7 day smoke free cruise out of Miami, we were upgraded from a ocean view to a grand suite. It was the only time we have been upgraded, we have had several offers for the upsell but have declined because of price.

2005 on the Valor I was upgraded to an aft extended cabin. That was the only time. In fact I have never even gotten a call for an upsell. Not sure I would take it anyway.

  4. I'm curious too! I booked my next cruise on Valor out of San Juan and also a hotel 2 days early because I've heard such good things. Now there are 2 posts in this thread saying they don't like San Juan! Eeek, so what's wrong with San Juan?

It's a personal choice I guess, but I LOVE San Juan! I used to do drug enforcement in the Caribbean and we pulled in there quite often and it was my favorite liberty port in the Caribbean! It's not expensive, there are BEAUTIFUL women who were always very friendly, and plenty of things to do all within walking distance! When I have pulled in there on cruises it has been the same, plus I don't have to worry how much I have to drink when I head back to the ship!

The place does have a little crime and some shady spots, but if you just use common sense I don't think that is an issue. Love it!:D

  5. Well, I leave this weekend and I am trying not to over pack but am NOT succeeding! I would usually cruise during the summer months which makes things easier because it is always hot in the Caribbean. Springtime brings on a whole new dilemma.

Those of you who cruise this time of year, what do you bring to wear during the day in the ship, in ports, on excursions, and in the evening on non formal nights? Ladies, I understand we are the ones who face this challenge whereas the guys have it easy! I tend to bring my whole closet (not really, but close) so I can have choices!!! Traveling to the Western Caribbean.

    I absolutely HATE packing!!!

I cruise this time of year just about every year, and I don't bring anything different than when I cruise inthe summer. I wear winter clothes down there, or at least a sweat shirt and jeans and that is my fallback if I have a chilly night. But I never have. Enjoy!

  6. We are booking another cruise and hubby is considering an Aft Balcony. My question is how hot does it get out there and is there shade? Sometimes the crowds and noise are to much for me and I need a quite retreat, so I do use the balcony quite a bit. I would love to have more room for a lounger rather than a upright chair, but I don't sweat. Yes, you read it correctly, I don't sweat at all. I just turn bright red and overheat. So I'm concerned we may book it and I wont be able to use it because it will be to hot. Don't know if it makes any difference, but will likely be a late November, Western itinerary. I can usually handle 80ish degrees, more if there is a breeze. But much over 80 in direct sun with no breeze and I'm ready to throw up and pass out in about 30 min. Thanks for your reply.

Good question. We had an extended aft balcony on the Valor and we loved it. In regards to your question, yes I remember it was pretty hot when the sun was hitting it directly, especially the deck. If the ship was not moving, like in Miami before we departed, it was too hot even for me. BUT most of the time when the ship was moving there was some form of breeze. Days when i was getting a little sun out there, if it got too hot i would hop in the shower for a few seconds and go back out while still wet. Also we were on her in August (during Katrina) so it may not be as bad for you! I would take it!

  7. My family and I just got back from the Liberty it was a 7 day cruise. Let me start with our room steward left a toilet bowl cleaner in our bathroom and NO toilet paper. Very embarrassing and awkward. He basically told us clean your toilet or you cant use it!!!

We had a Mardi Gras party that led to lido deck. The party was suppose to end at 11:00 which I'm guessing it did but there was no announcement for adults to finish the party in one of the night clubs. When we noticed the behavior going on we looked for security and everyone was gone cruise director, entertainment staff, everyone. Their were grown drunk women rubbing themselves on little boys basically making a sandwich with them. No one was there to stop it. They were taking the caution when wet floor signs and doing a limbo line and then throwing it at each other. again no one there to stop it. At one point a little 10 year old boy was on the 10th floor running along the lounge chairs right next to the rails. Now I know people need to be responsible for there children but come on that could have been a bad situation. Finally at 1 am we went to guest services to let them know what was going on and I was told I was not the first to complain and it was a problem for security and they weren't doing there job!! So we went back to the lido deck and they did close the bars but I thought what about those kids??

The crew was not friendly at to me it looked like they were going through the motions. There were 4 crew members that were very nice they were Dj Spike, Dominikos ( busboy at the buffet) and the comedians Cowboy Bill and Happy Cole. Other than that the ports were beautiful!!

So happy cruising to all of you and good luck if you go on the liberty!!! Watch your children!!

Sorry you had a bad experience but I'm a little confused. Did your steward actually say "clean your bathroom" or did he just keep forgetting the TP? Seems you could have taken care of that immediately at guest services.

As for the scene you described with the women and the “little boys”, why didn’t you say something? Watching little boys be molested is not something I would let slide with just a complaint to the staff. My bet is the kid's parents were close by and just letting it happen.

As for the other ones running around that late at night, I feel your pain but some parents get on the ship and cut their young kids lose while they go get drunk. I have seen it on every cruise no matter what time of year. It ticks me off as well, but there is not much you can do about it.

  8. I think you should have enough time to do the "Jewels of Fiji" trip. If you Google it you will find it.

It is a great full day activity. Bus ride through Fiji countryside to a traditional village where you will be welcomed and encouraged to drink the cava. Then lunch will be served, cooked in a fire pit and totally delicious. Followed by a canoe trip (you don't get involved in paddling!) to a waterfall, which you walk to, then swim in the refreshing water below the falls. Canoe back to the bus stop and bus back to the ship.

You dock right by the market which is really interesting too.

I'm sorry I can't give you the web address, seem to have lost it from my favourites. We did this trip last October and would do it again tomorrow!

Enjoy your day, whatever you do.:D

    Thanks Kristal.

  9. I do not like this Seuss at Sea!

Why can’t these characters let me be?

I don’t want to see them with my meal!

They don’t know the way I feel!

Last night I had too much to drink!

I just want coffee and some time to think!

Why can’t these characters let me be!

  10. Our toilet clogged a couple of times last December on the Dream. It was me, my son and my husband. I should be compensated at least a couple thousand a WEEK just for being in a cabin with a clogged toilet with 2 guys!

My wife got bad sunburn on the Freedom two yesr ago and Carnival did nothing about it! They never said sitting in the Caribbean sun drinking for seven hours could be dangerous! I want some MONEY!

  11. Like I said we went with the Radisson on Liverpool Street. About half what the four points was and it is only three blocks up the street.

  12. the problem may be we are not in the class of Ferrari owners, maybe we should go back to the Park Royal. Little concerned we have overstepped ourselves. We are just looking to be in a nice hotel, not buy it.

  13. I have seen references to a website which details which ships will be at any port on any day and also the number of cruisers in each. I will be on Carnival Conquest for a week in April and would love to know the details.

Also if you want to check for your ship in a specific port, most ports have their own schedule for arriving ships.

  14. Belize & Progresso?

I don't AVOID Belize but I could do without it. Long hot tender ride back and forth, and I found the place dirty and sort of like St. Thomas in that it seems set up to just grab as many tourist dollars as possible and not much else. Sort of like they don't really want you to see the beauty of the country, they just want you to buy a watch.

Altun Ha was interesting (although I swear it had to be 120 degrees the day we went) by Belize City is dirty, and for the most part, a little sketchy. If I did buy an expensive watch, I would not want to walk around with it.

  15. There are lots of threads that are begun to point out a negative experience. I thought I would start a thread to share how impressed I am.

I have a daughter that is extremely shy. It is hard for her to enjoy her meals if we are seated with strangers. It doesn't rise to the level of contacting the Special Needs department but, I find she doesn't eat well if we are seated with others outside of our immediate party.

I sent a message to the maitre d of Sunshine and really didn't expect an e-mail back. I mean, I know these guys are busy so I didn't expect one not due to not caring but because they are concerned with the guests on this cruise and I'm still 6 weeks out.

I logged on this morning and was surprised to see a response of 'No worries. We will take care of it.' Talk about impressed!

I love starting out my cruise with such a positive impression. This is our 3rd or 4th Carnival cruise (I can't remember at this second) and realize they have a different flavor than other lines I've cruised on. That is okay - life would be boring with only one flavor of ice cream.

Anyway, I just wanted to pass on how much that simple reply meant to me. Carnival did a good thing and I'm SO looking forward to stepping foot onto their ship and being a guest in their home for a week.

Yes! Thank you for positive feedback! I did the same thing and posted something out my PVP last week just to see something positive on here!

  16. Our exteded aft was on deck 6. We did not have a flat screen tv and the carpeting looked fine, but dont know if it was new or not. In the hallways I did notice areas where the carpeting was much brighter than other areas, so maybe they just replaced some carpeting. Chopsticks is the oriental restaurant in the buffet (self serve) and only open during the lunch hours. We do not eat sushi, so we didnt try the new sushi place. I did see a booth near the dining room that was offering samples of foods prior to dining. They may of had sushi. We didnt sample anything.

Was there a fish and chips place? Also do you remember was the blue iguana open for breakfast on sea days?

  17. Although yours will be the low season, popular hotels book out fast in Sydney. For example the Old Holiday Inn is already fully booked in January 2015. Mind you the weekend I'm looking at is Australia Day weekend. Plus at $450 NZ per night it is defenitely out of my budget;)

You wil not find many hotels with airport shuttles.

Have at look at Booking.com (lots of reviews and will tell if has wifi etc.) and set your budget and look into the triangle from Circular Quay/Rocks, Darling Harbour & China Town. This area is all walkable and close to all the main sightsees, public transport, ferries and the HoHo bus.

We chose the York by Bell Hotel. This is very central, plus a very good price for a serviced apartment. So, besides having a spacious studio, we also have a bath (meaning the one you lie in) a kitchen, a laundry and a balcony. The complex also has an outdoor swimming pool, spa pool and gym. The Meridon apartments usually also come recommended, but were booked out already.

    Happy searching...

Thank you very much. I just booked the Radisson on Liverpool Street. Looks like it is not far from Darling Harbour and China town. Looks like plenty of places to eat and grab a drink close by. I stumbled on a great price, about half of what it would have been to stay with my tour group at the Four Points just a few blocks away. Thanks again for your information. I could see that things were filling up fast, so I feel better now it's booked.

  18. It won't show up on the Carnival website. I printed off my email confirmation but it wasn't needed; once on your cruise it appears on the tv channel that shows your account balance.

OK so I just have to keep track of it myself so that when I get to the ship I know they have the corect amt. Thank you.

  19. Lots of times people will admit it after being asked.

On another Disney cruise board, Carnival is often held up to ridicule and asine comments are made like, "Carnival is full of drunks" or "Carnival cruisers are a lower class of people". When you ask most of the people making these remarks if they've ever cruised Carnival their response is usually "No, but my brother's bosses, neighbours friend did and they said...." or "I've heard....".

And I've had coworkers ask me about cruising and say, "oh, but you'd never sail Carnival, right? They're so awful!" And I happily tell them that I have sailed Carnival and enjoy sailing Carnival and would do so in a heartbeat. When I ask about their bad experience with Carnival, it's often, "oh I haven't sailed Carnival, but you know.... everyone knows they are crap....".

Or they form their opinion based on what they see on the news.

I am not a "cheerleader" or whatever people call them but I do enjoy sailing with Carnival and maybe I just have more realistic expectations of cruising after 20+ years on Coast Guard and Navy ships. It would take more than hard butter to ruin a cruise for me;).

I think what we have is a combination of people basing opinions on hearsay and others with unrealistic expectations maybe exaggerating on here a little bit.
