  1. Day 2 - Palma de Mallorca

My son woke at 5am (he usually gets up around 8am) so it was an early start for us this morning. Played in the room and amused him until 7am when we went to the Windjammer for breakfast. Very difficult to get a seat but we finally managed to get one. Shortly after 8am the captain announced that we could go ashore.

Took the €5 shuttle into town and wandered around for a few hours. The cathedral doesn't open until 10 but when we arrived around 9:20, one of the doors was open so we wandered in with a few people. Managed to have a good look around before someone noticed us and told us to come back at 10am! Walked to the Hard Rock Cafe and got our magnets... Shop is small but at least we got what we wanted. After this we looked in a few shops, had some cold drinks in a cafe and returned to the ship around 12.

For lunch we went to the Park Cafe and each had a salad. We also halved one of their beef sandwiches... Yum! Place was really quiet (Central Park was practically deserted!) and we sat outside.

The rest of the afternoon was spent between the suite lounge, the splash zone, the theatre for OceanAria (great show) and our room!

This evening we went to Coastal Kitchen for dinner at 6am. Our waitress was excellent but the Maitre D was awful. First she made a song and dance over my son (who was fast asleep in his buggy) because he was not on the reservation although I clearly told them the day before. Next she sat us at a table which had no room for my son so he ended up behind me where I couldn't see him and lastly she made a snotty comment about him saying 'I just hope he stays asleep for the entire dinner' before marching off. Anyway... The food in coastal kitchen is lovely and the service efficient. To start we both had the Beet Salad (my Mom thought it was a bit bland but I enjoyed it). For mains I had the herb roasted chicken and she had the Scallops. Both were really tasty but we both though the portion of scallops was very small. Dessert was tiramisu and a caramel pudding. Both we nice but the tiramisu was better in my opinion. I saw several people eating the rack of lamb and it looked really good too.

Don't know what we are doing yet in Marseille tomorrow but we're thinking of going to Giovanni's for dinner if we can get a reservation. We'll prob look to eat outside if possible and Jack can wave at passers by!!!!

Some observations about our room... I definitely think you can feel a little more movement at the back of the ship. Plus if you're sleeping on the fold out couch in the living room, you can't possibly leave the air conditioning on because it's directly over the bed and the breeze blows straight down.

  2. I hope that you have a great week. Can you tell me if they have the wifi compatible with iOS 9 yet. I have, unfortunately, already updated my phone to the new software and will be boarding for the transatlantic in 3 weeks.

    Many thanks,

    Beth

I don't know but I'll see if I can find out - I deliberately didn't update my phone!

  3. Arrived into Barcelona this morning from Dublin airport at 10am. Had booked a private transfer with BCN and we were at the pier within 20/25 minutes. Went straight to terminal C and we were onboard within 20 mins or so.

Traveling with me is my son (15 months) and my Mom. We're in one of the new grand suites - 11330. I really like the room and the balcony is fantastic. Our stateroom attendant is fantastic and already she has made up the bed in the sitting room for us. I'll post pics of the room when I get a chance.

We took it pretty easy today since we were up really early today. We had lunch in the Windjammer early enough and it wasn't too busy. Strolled through Central Park, got our pictures taken with Shrek, went on the carousel, visited the suite lounge for a glass of wine and then had showers/baths before the Munster.

Went to the windjammer for dinner as well... Curry seems to be a popular dish! Lamb curry this afternoon and chicken this evening. Gorgeous chocolate coated strawberries for dessert. We've reservations for Coastal Kitchen tomorrow night which I'm looking forward to!

Early night tonight to catch up on our sleep and we'll be rearing to go tomorrow. We're going to get the shuttle bus into the centre and have a wander around. Like soooooo many others, we collect Hard Rock magnets so we'll probable go and have a look for one.

  4. Hi everyone

I got an email last night about our upcoming cruise on Allure of the seas. Email told me to reprint/print our setsail passes with the new terminal information on them. Just had a look online at our passes and can't see it. Think they are using two terminals but we'll have to know which one to check in at. Anyone have any further information?

    Thanks

  5. Not to delve too far off topic but just a heads-up in the name of cross-cultural relations, while I understand the word "sambo" is often used as slang in Ireland for sandwich, you may want to be careful using it. In the US, especially, it carries a far different meaning and is a racial epithet directed at people of African descent.

That said, going on Oasis in under a month I think I might definitely try to get my wife away from Windjammer for lunch to get the sandwich.

Didn't realize and yes as you said, a sambo in Ireland is indeed a sandwich! Apologies

  6. If you want to see the comedy show make sure you book tickets!

Maybe consider the Park Cafe for lunch on the 1st day... Try their famous beef sambo!

Sometimes they have offers for Chops on the first night of the cruise... If you want to eat there, I would keep an eye out for this.

The tutti salad on seas days in the main dining room is great!

  7. Speciality restaurants are paid for immediately unless the restaurant is a la carte! If you know which ones he booked, it'll be easy to tell you.

The comedy show is in a small venue so I'm not sure if ye'll be able to get more tickets. You just might be able to see it if you line up outside on the night of the show. Maybe someone will have booked and won't show up!

Formal nights are 2 and 6 as far as I can remember.

  8. We are booked on Serenade's October 19th cruise from Quebec to Fort Lauderdale. The first week of booking we booked two E2 cabins next to each other midship on deck 8. I live in the UK and my brother and family live in the U.S. So we like to be close by or next to each other as we don't see each other often enough.

Last week as I started to complete the online checkin, I noticed that our cabin was different, a connecting cabin nine cabins away from the one we booked.

My travel agent had spent a lot of time the last week trying to get to the bottom of it. I emailed Mr. Bayley at RC and I had a phone call from Miami on Tuesday from a lady in head office.

It seems that another party booked " our" cabin at the exact same time as we did and we were bumped. Yet no one thought to tell us! If we had known at the time then we could have booked two other cabins next to each other.

On Tuesday they tried to offer us two cabins together but the only ones available were right at the front of the ship. So we decided to stay where we are although I have said as we are unlikely to get two cabins together, then I would just like to be moved from the connecting cabin. But at the moment the only E cabins are those right at the front of the ship. There are four D1 cabins available too but no offer of an upgrade! They have given us $ 100 OBC as a recompense.

My two concerns are that we were moved without being informed and we are in a connecting cabin which is not what we booked.

Just want to know if anyone thinks we can do any more or does anyone has any advice?

I don't think there is anything else you can do. Seems like a genuine mix up. You can set upgrade preferences so perhaps check what yours were at the time too.

  9. Cruised many times over the years but always book with UK travel agent or direct with cruise line.

Finally got tired of paying overly inflated UK prices.... Seen an upcoming RCI cruise we fancy which is the same in £ as $, and using USA TA will also give us OBC.

So what do we need to know..... I know that $ deposit is fully refundable up to a certain point, which Is A huge plus as we are looking at a 2016 Christmas cruise.

    Thanks in advance

How did you go about finding a U.S. TA? Would love to do similar but I'm cautious as I don't know any good TA!
