  1. Does this tour get away from from the crowds snorkeling at the cruise ships? I’ve heard some of the best reefs are there’s but I’d rather take my chances and go to a different reef where my flippers aren’t flapping on everyone else lol!

When we went our family was the only one from a cruise ship on the boat. There were other private or I am sure cruise charters in the area. We did not get caught in anyone's flippers. It was mainly our group around us and other groups clustered together. We never felt crowded. I want to go back![emoji4]

  2. I am getting ready for the snorkeling trip (in one week!!). Just curious: Is it cold to snorkel in this weather? What about playing on the beach? I see weather forecast with high at 81C. My kids are excited about snorkeling, but they really don't like cold water in swimming pools. Any thoughts or tips will be very much appreciated!
I suggest you purchase rash guards for them. Excellent value and comfort can be found from Vapor Apparel or Kona. These offer comfort fit not to tight. Some kids may like tighter fits. You can get long or short sleeves. Great for adults as well. Theses also offer great UVA protection from the sun. They all dry really quickly as well. There are more expensive brands from Quicksilver or Body Glove. Rash guards were mainly for surfers to protect the body from paddling out on the boards.

  3. Great to hear that you had a good experience with them. I am also booking with them, but I have two non-swimmers in the party. Do you think it's worthwhile for the non-swimmers to sit in the boat (paying full fare of course) with the group just to enjoy the view and occasionally take pictures of those who actually get into the water?
I think it would be. The shallow area with the rays is about 3 feet of water so they can stand, have some beer and enjoy the time. The boat we were on as I mentioned is not new or fast. Great way to see that part of the island. Inexpensive trip on the water.

  4. Native Choice trip was 4 hours. I also requested to be dropped at a beach club but it did not happen. My wife did get dropped off near taxis as it was only a 2 dollar ride to the beach from that drop off spot. The tour had a large group so I understand why they did not drop us off at the beach. Maybe with a smaller crowd they do. Native Choice was excellent, reported my wife. I was stuck on ship with my son and his stomach issues. Luckily it was too much alcohol over three days and not the dreaded ship nausea stuff:). After they got dropped off I met my other son and grabbed a cab to the beach. You can do it all!

  5. Hi. We are recently back from Cozumel. We went with cozumelshoreexcursion.net. fantastic communication before our trip. We went to four sites, Palancar (reef is deep) bu r swam with a number of barracuda. Columbia, shallower and much nicer view of the reef, El Cielo, star fish heaven, and then hung out in the shallows while stingrays ventured by. Willy, our guide was excellent. He was in the water with us each time. The captain would drip us off and at least 1/2hour later be in a different spot to pick us up. Willy made some awesome Pico and guacamole. Beers, water, soda all uncluded. Then he broke out the tequila! Tequila, sprite, and coke with a salted lime. Very tasty. Willy then found the shot glass which a few of us enjoyed. There were maybe 12 to 14 of us. The boat was a little tired but they got us out and back in plenty of time. We met at the hooters in town very close to the ship. They provided the Internet password from Starbucks next door wich my boys enjoyed prior to and after our trip. Highly recommend this trip. Not very expensive for what you get. The four of us were the only ones from a cruise ship and they want to always make sure you are back in time. This was excellent.

  6. DW and DS'S 19 and 20 got off the Getaway on December 31st. This was our second cruise on NCL. We did this cruise for the ports and dates. We were not disappointed at all. The Waterfront area was one of our favorite areas. Sunset bar, mojito bar, dinner outside, etc. We could hang out on the relaxing chairs while enjoying many adult beverages.

We snorkeled in Roatan and Cozumel, ruins in Costa Maya, and had the ship to ourselves at Harvest Caye.

Hung out in Spice H2O with adults and a bar!

The Million dollar quarter show was world class.

Food was great fo free such a large ship. Be sure to eat at Modern for dinner. Also there are regional specialty lunches in Modern that are complementary. An Indian theme lunch and a Brazilian themed lunch were excellent.

The only time it felt crowded were by the elevators after a big event in the theater. Use stairs if you can.

My boys did not attend but they had 18 to 21 year old functions in Bliss almost each night.

Do the rock and roll trivia with your kids. They will love that.

It's a big ship, you can get lost and find happy places. The pool area is crowded so we stayed away. We were happy at spice h20.

Go, have fun, don't listen to those that complain. It's a massive floating hotel were you can getaway easily from people.

  8. Does anyone have an idea of what days/times this is offered on the Getaway? The link to the Dailies in this thread is not working and I want to make sure we plan around it.
The time changes on each cruise as I looked over dailies before our cruise and the time slots changed. We ended up with about 10 in our group. They try and keep it to around 8 per group. It was well worth our time, plenty of fun. Sign up early, box office has all the time slots.

  9. We are getting excited about our upcoming trip... Here is what we are doing after many hours of research on this area. Our family likes to snorkel so its really focused on that area.

In Roatan, Victor Boden has been excellent to deal with. We will have a private driver to take us to snorkel, parasail and take us to a local place for food. We plan to hang out on the boat in Harvest Caye. Ruins with Native Choice (they have been awesome) then they will drop us off at The Krazy Lobster for some jetski and massage in Costa Maya. Lastly, we will do three snorkle sites with cozumelshoreexcursion.net. They have also been incredible in getting this set up.

We are pretty locked in and I will write a review on all of this after our December cruise. If any of you have similar experience with any of these I am sure the OP would like to hear.

  10. I have booked a snorkel excursion with them but we dont go until later in December. I can tell you all my dealings so far have been excellent. They respond quickly to any questions and the booking process was easy, I will report back after we return.

  11. Check this out from the Escape from Miami review:

By a show of hands, who wants a "cheese explainer?"

No one? Okay, here you go.

Queso de Cabra is a soft goats' milk cheese. If you like Chevre or similar cheeses, you'll like this. (The literal translation is "cheese of the goat."

Manchego is sheep's milk cheese. Think Jarlsberg or a nuttier Swiss with finer lacing.

Idiazabal is made from raw sheep's milk. The eagle-eyed among you might notice that this cheese is missing from the chef's selection or mixto plate. A common cheese that would be a good substitute would be Gouda. Like Gouda, Idiazabal comes in both smoked and unsmoked varieties. (Or in the case of today, not at all.)

Mahon is made from cows' milk. It's a semi firm cheese that I'd describe, taste wise, as a cross between Parmesan and Cheddar.

Each cheese costs $3. Or, you can order the chef's selection for $11, saving $1 over the per cheese pricing. You would think that the mixto would give you all four cheeses. You would be wrong. You get three cheeses. Perhaps the chef has selected to pocket the extra two bucks. (You'll have to wait until the Friday Pincho's review to see if today's three cheese sampler was an oversight.)

  13. Good morning POA1!

Is it to early to put your geek back on? Can you share with us the technology side of your tribes on-board communication? Is everyone using iConcierge for on-board texting? Is anyone using iMessage to do on-board or communication back to the home land? How about what's app? Or I have heard about a social networking add on available. My DW and two Ds's will be on The Getaway for Christmas and those boys will want to text friends on the main land. I don't want the texting home to run more than the cost of our trip! Thanks!

  14. Seven pages of discussion involving cheese and only a slight mention of Monty Python! Someday a good Venezuelan Beaver Cheese might be found on NCL!
Everyone should watch the Monty Python cheese shop video here as a fan of this tread:
--- classic and even a Norwegian reference!

As our discussion has included cheese, meats, pumpkin and maple syrup amongst other things, here is an article that covers them all! I am willing to bring some Vermont Maple syrup in exchange for some cheese! 8bc4244df04eebefe789491ea8925400.jpg
