I understand the frustration, but the article on the announcement was not meant to include cruise ships - simply that the Canada-US border will be closed to non-essential travel for one more month. This was announced this morning by the leader of our country.

You don't have to be rude; no one is complaining. I simply asked for your source, is all. You have internet, and probably all of the newspapers in the world are online as well. Posting a link from a news website is very easy, actually:

Open the article or piece you want to quote in another browser window.

Go up to the top to find the URL or "link" (it usually contains www. or .com). Put your cursor (the little arrow) over that link and click on it - it may turn blue.

Right-click and look for the word "Copy"; click on the word "copy" and then move back to where you were typing before - where you want to put that link, like on this page in a message.

Right click and you will see the option "Paste". Click on that and the URL or link will appear. People reading your post will then be able to click directly on it and be taken straight to that "page". It's one of the ways we share information online and provide verifiable sources instead of just taking someone's word for it. 😊

How do you post a link to a tv news show?

As Fouremco stated and for the last time.

Horgan and the head of the provincial health department were on TV.  They announced a 4 phase plan.  Ok so far?

International tourists and gatherings of more than 50 are not welcome until

Since you don't want my posts they have now stopped.  If you can tell me how to post a link to TV from Vancouver please let me know.  Posting the BC Restart plan from the Colonist?  Really.  Read it.  Do you want a link?  Not until Phase 4 that begins in September or later will large gatherings or international tourism resume.

That certainly makes cruising impossible until Phase 4.

Trudeau stated that BC will decide when it opens its borders on TV.

Yes the ports in BC are open, you just cannot get off a ship without a 14 day quarantine.

As for the border remaining closed longer - the agreement was signed either yesterday or today.  The agreement in principle, however, was completed last week.  Do you need the email I received from my Congressman last week?  At that time the US agreed to remove export restrictions on PPE.  This was on both CNN and NBC TV over the weekend.   I have been trying to reunite family caught on both sides of the border.

Guess you will want a source for the email I received that Celebrity will announce an extension of cancellations tomorrow.  Sorry.  Already agreed not to.

  2. 9 minutes ago, Fouremco said:

LOL. So, the Prime Minister of Canada announcing the extension on national tv isn't good enough, you want it in writing too? Here's and article reporting on it from a US perspective. I'm sure that if you check the State Department website in a few days you'll be able to find a US source of written confirmation.https://www.cnn.com/2020/05/18/politics/extend-border-and-travel-restrictions-coronavirus/index.html

Guess the complainers do not watch television or read the Times Colonist.  I have no idea how to post a bloody link to what I watch on TV or the Colonist.  On Fox TV News it was stated the US had agreed to lift export restrictions on PPE and extend the border closing another month.  This was a day or two ago.

i have two cruises , back to back , on Celebrity starting Aug 14th.  Anyone have any word on wether this is going to happen.  We leave out of

    Vancouver which is still closed.

As discussed. There is no possibility of any cruises out of Vancouver until next year.  BC has banned gatherings of more than 50 people.

I am wondering if royal caribbean also gives back to back discounts. Does anyone know?

It is the same as Celebrity.  Sometimes.  Usually do B2B each year.  Celebrity after some pressure usually came thru with $50 per cruise.  Sometimes not.  My TA always gave extra OBCR on the second cruise.  Royal the same except for $100 once on each cruise.

    Simply put ask.

Currently have an 11 night booked for the Equinox in October which I am fully expecting not to go ahead, in any case being in Australia can’t see flights getting me there anyway so all likely will need to cancel, if the line doesn’t do it for me before final payment.

I booked this cruise through a US agent which obviously means the booking is in USD and any FCC that comes back to me will be in USD.

if I book another cruise through Celebrity in Australia which will be in AUD....how is this FCC applied, is it just converted to whatever currently the new booking is made in?

Yes.   It will move to AUD at the interbank exchange rate at the taste you use the FCC with probably a 2% charge.

  6. Yes.  Cruising will continue through June.  They will still be repatriation of crew.

My Ouija Board said passenger cruising will resume in June.  It also said COVID will disappear tomorrow, both Canada and the US will have a surplus this fiscal year and Congress and Parliament will cease political rhetoric and work together.

Had this quote.   B.C. has 67% of Washington’s population, but only 14% of the Covid-19 deaths.  I don’t think my cousins in Vancouver are that anxious for me to pop in and visit anytime soon.

CBC just announced a one month extension of the non-essential border closure.  Also Trudeau stated that BC would decide when the BC / Washington State border would open.  BC could decide to keep its borders closed longer.

There are rural areas from Montana to North Dakota and Alberta to Manitoba with little to no COVID.  Those areas certainly could open sooner.

Certainly clear there will not be an Alaska cruise season this year.  Hopefully Celebrity will provide an announcement that cancels cruises that obviously cannot happen - even if beyond 30 days.

Can anyone tell me who the cruise director is on Millennium?  I've searched everywhere and can't seem to find it.

Would guess there is no cruise director on board today.  Will be a multitude of changes when cruising resumes.

Celebrity told us that they will not speak to us we have to go through TA even for refunds and TA won’t respond to emails - agents are working from home and office is closed since late March.

Wow!  I am aware of several TAs with big problems.  Among the worst on through a huge membership store.  Choose carefully.

We have been using the wrong TA all these years, it seems. They are not responding to emails and if they do they give the standard response 60 days for refund without reading our email! It is the famous agency in New Hampshire. Never had any complaints in the last 9 years.

Mine is a big box TA in NJ with a complete travel site.  The "expedite" things.

  11. 19 hours ago, billyu said:

Why even bother using a TA

That is easy.  You have one contact for everything.  My TA responds to calls or emails even today within 24 hours.  If there is a confusion they are calling on my side.  They have contacts that are more informed than the average Celebrity agent working from home.

There is also a financial benefit to me.  Usually my TA has group space a couple hundred dollars cheaper and perks even on a TA.  I also receive OBCR in the 5-10% of the base fare.

Personally I don’t believe the changes will be permanent. In my view when we have a vaccine things will slowly return to the way they were.

When that happens we will cruise again.  DW has asthma and fights blood pressure.  While we miss cruising, there are lots of other things to do.  Have cruises starting August of 2021.  Usually do 2 or 3 a year.

I don't think it likely cruising will resume without a vaccine.  There is a significant risk both to people on board - crew and passengers - and financial risk to the cruise line.  Last spring - especially March demonstrated the risks.

While I realize it no one can probably give me an exact number, there are obviously a certain amount of crew needed to operate the ship even if no one else was aboard

I figure there is the bridge crew  (perhaps 2 shifts), engineering crew, (perhaps 2 shifts) and maybe some of the Department Heads / Senior Staff

So if the ship normally has 1,000 crew members - maybe they are now operating with 100-150???

This is just something I'm curious about.

Carnival said it takes approximately 200 crew.  That to be able to resume full operation rapidly.  In a semi mothballed state at anchor or dock less.

Am sure there are some experts here.

getting back to OP....... when is next no sail expected?

Next week either Monday or Friday.  According to my Oujia Board.

Do remember SARS vaccine stopped because SARS quickly disappeared.  Trials became impossible. Nobody infected - thankfully.

I get why you think it is a sham as some here do. A lot of people have money tied up waiting for the next set of cancellations.  It is frustrating for sure.  But what date do you think they should extend to at this point?  Sept?  Dec?  2021 some time?  How does one decide?  And cancel all operations to that date or allow a few cruises to resume with the right conditions?  Should they continue to waffle (or be conservative in my view) and choose a date after the next set of CDC guidelines? This is more than a bit complicated.

It might just be an attempt to be able to try to handle cancellations.

It does seem cancellation of all Alaska would be a good place to start.  Probably cruises in Europe through September are impossible because of crew issues alone.

Australia and NZ won't happen with their government closing things until next year.

Agree with the poster that said next week they cancel for another month.  The could do it better like other lines.

There are ZERO chances that a European cruise will happen ESPECIALLY for Americans. ZERO

You are preaching to the choir.  I have repeatedly stated my opinion was little or no cruising till 2021.  However Italy is opening their borders to tourism in early June.  My thought is the miniscule chance a cruise from some obscure place to another might happen like the Canada cruise scheduled to go to Bermuda.

When we rebooked the air, we actually changed the dates and cancelled a week's worth of hotels and pre-paid rental car and moved arrival to two days before the cruise...Just left the revised air and hotel in Civitavecchia in place--because--with a July cruise, cancellation, at that time, wasn't as much a sure thing.

As for the "Lift and Shift", there are two options we would take...But, since they are for a longer time or for a newer ship, we're not sure how Celebrity will react...

Instead of our current back-to-back cruises on Infinity at 7 nights each, there are two consecutive cruises--9 nights and 11 nights--on Constellation and, then, Infinity--which hit all of the same ports (including Zadar and Rijecka--the reasons we had booked this one)...OR...

We would take back-to back cruises on Apex--which would have no repeat ports other than LaSpezia (and we had originally planned to do part of our pre-cruise this year in the Cinque Terre)--two 7-nighters...

But, I suspect Celebrity won't want to trade straight across from 14 nights to 20 or from an M-Class ship to the Apex, even if the same dates and same number of nights.  But, I guess we could ask and see...

Would Definately ask.  Would guess you will be asked to pay for the additional days.  The difference in ships should not matter.  Would paying for the extra days be reasonable to you if at the same daily rate you are now paying.  Perks move too.

Think if you cruise with a modified itinerary does happen - read 1 or 2 ports all new.  They can and probably would need to make huge changes that you likely would not like much.

  18. My TA said that since it is taking up to a week to get new reservation data fully entered by Celebrity that holds are much more flexible.  With all the cancellations the last thing a cruiselinewants to do is unnecessarily cancel a hold.

Last week we considered moving to an April 21 TA from August 21.  Was given a week to decide.  PS kept August date.

There are kind responses to the OP here but there are also some responses that really show a disturbing lack of empathy or appreciation that other people's situation might be different to their own.  I hope every one gets their money back or their future cruise and that the cruise companies survive so that we can cruise again one day.

One thing I have noticed with this whole pandemic and its effects is that there seems to be some big (cultural?) differences in how people respond to these circumstances.  Why do people put down other people who are anxious about getting their money back instead of supporting them and wishing them the best?

Am not sure you are on the same page as most posters here.  Of course I and others would like everyone to be happy and the refunds to happen smoothly and in a timely fashion.  The problems usually happen when posters make cancellations or changes to a reservation.  Seems to make no difference working with Celebrity direct or a TA.  The OP gives their complaint and it often is evident their action is not covered by a policy.  I cancelled a cruise two days before it was cancelled.  I would love a refund, but am not entitled to anything except a FCC.  My TA made it clear exactly what I would receive.  Thus my problem.  It is sort of like the online order when you review your purchase one more time.  That action needs to be done carefully - but often is done too quickly.

I truly think some posters did not understand the effect of their actions.  Others listed a problem and then gave additional information of changes they made that changed things.  In a normal world Celebrity or a TA might assist a long time customer.  Today with thousands of people with problems that just isn't happening.

Make sure a reservation is exactly what you expect and be careful of changes - Even a payment can change your situation.

  20. The issue with refunds is crazy accounting.  Shore excursion $ in one account, port charges in another.  Makes each refund exceedingly cumbersome.  Add in that most are working from home and impossible to hire additional staff and you have a fiasco.

The good news is RCCL has borrowed sufficient funds to cover refunds.

The bad news is The next chunk of cancellations coming shortly and the accounting backlog with likely only get worse.

They will do ANYTHING to prevent you from get your money

    back!!

Now do I have to wait hours on the phone to months to FIX this??

Should be able to do through your TA - I did - or via an email or online to Celebrity.  My refund request ended up being a FCC as well.  My TA fixed it quickly.

Don't think it was any change from the lender.  It was always a short term loan designed to support operational cash flow.  So it makes sense to replace 1 year debt, with longer term debt.

Absolutely.  RCCL took out a 365 day credit line - not renewable.  Speculate they wanted to make their balance sheet and cash position look good.  This type of "loan" can be accompanied in a day or two.  Truly needed something more permanent.
