  1. Also look up tom’s tour guides online. It is free and a great source of info for these ports. The train is super easy. However it can take a bit to get a tender. You need to go early to get early tickets of your captains club status doesn’t help you

  2. Villefranche (Nice) has no dock. Ships tender.

There are taxis, yes. But when in high demand (it is a very small port) some of the drivers charge what they want and refuse to turn on the meter. So be careful and talk about the price before you get into the taxi.

There is also a train going to Nice or Monte Carlo.

  3. I'm almost positive that JR was on Radiance class. I seemed to remember that all was free except for the ice cream soda. There's also was a coupon in the C&A book for a bogo. I searched Bing for "JR on RCS" and below is a photo of a JR which resembles the aft (?) a Radiance class ship.

Thank you so much! I really remember that being free too except of the shake. This was over ten years ago as well.

  4. Thank you all! I took a Transatlantic on one of the Radiance class as my first transatlantic. I can't remember for the life of me which one it was. I really thought that there was a Johnny Rockets on that ship. Hum. I know that it was a radiance class and I think it was the Brilliance. Everything else in my memory matches up to the ship. I know the Crown and Anchor club area use to be a cigar bar. That was such a cool space because it hung over the atrium.

  5. Thank you so much for taking the time to write this. My first ta was on royal from Barcelona. It was almost ten years later that I️ got to take one again and have done the. For the last five years from Florida to Europe on celebrity. You brought back great memories of all of my trips. Now I️ can consider royal again.

  6. Before going back to our stateroom after the disco we headed to the Oceanview Cafe. Preparations for Halloween were well underway there too!

We thought we'd get in to the spirit and have decorated our stateroom door.

Thank you so much for this review. Loving it. I have done this cruise four times the other direction. So nice to relive it.

  7. Continuing....* The fact that we were planning to go to the hot glass show at 8 obviously got a bit misunderstood by the staff and they assumed we were headed for the 9 o'clock show. This meant was a little slower than it could have been. Though to be fair when we reminded them service was smartly expedited.

Celebrity do not seem to understand cheese, serving it straight from the fridge to the plate. Last night we remembered and mentioned to the server at the start of the meal and by the time we received our cheese at the end of our meal it was nicely acclimatised to room temperature. Yea.

Heading off early to see dolphins in the morning (actually on the coach* now) so have opted for room service breakfast. On previous cruises we have had a bit of a hit and miss with this especially with 3 in the suite. As one puts out one card with all orders combined sometimes we can get quite a mix of what each wanted......*

As this is in fact tomorrow morning I can say with just the two of us Alfred got pretty much right :) One problem we had not considered however was that ordering breakfast for 7.30am would mean it was still dark. Now in an RS there is a dining table in the room but with a CS the table in the room, while certainly large enough, is a bit low and more suited to coffee or magazines. The dining table for the suite is on the balcony. On our previous cruises in the summer months sunrise has always been a lot earlier. What we did do was open all the curtains and with the room lights on and the twinkling lights around the harbour it was lovely.*

    ........ We saw Dolphins :)*

I am writing this, or more accurately thumbing, as we sit in an air conditioned coach returning to the ship. The boat trip out to see the dolphins was great and as I said we encountered a huge pod of perhaps 200 dolphins who swam alongside the boat for about 20mins (my camera recorded some 2000 images). To me the highlight was seeing flying fish in the calmer waters as we headed out to sea. The downside was the ubiquitous 15min swim stop in which I believe none of the Celebrity passengers indulged.*

Now I understand that these tour boats need to make a living but what I had not expected was a boat that held approximately 120 to already have about 70* *other passengers occupying the best seats when we arrived. It was only a dozen or so of these predominantly Dutch speaking tourists who were interested in the swim stop. If the shore excursion brochure had described the tour as a coach trip to Puerto Rico were one would join in as a minority on an unguided dolphin watch trip I might not have booked Celebrity's offering. If I had booked the same company directly I would have had about €90 left to book a taxi. The main disappointment was the lack of any information from the guide on the bus or on the boat. It would not have been hard for X to provide a guide who could have given us some local history or even talked about the cetaceans we hoped to see. If not on the boat at least on the coach.*

The flying fish were a real treat though.

What a great phone. We see them every crossing and I tell everyone about them

  8. I try and look at the positive. I think it is great that they are updating cabins. I like the idea of The Retreat. The more clean look in the cabins this what the Millennials seem to like. I'm from the baby boomers era. The only companies or people interested in me are doctors, over 55 living communities, assisted living and cemeteries. Celebrity should be more interested in our children and grand children. As this changes are not starting to 2019 and will be rolled in over time in dry dock. I do think that some of the cruisers bring why to much luggage. So you might see me in the same polo 3 times in 14 days:eek:.

Such a funny observation but very true

  9. You look great! Love that colour. Can't believe we haven't bumped into you two yet, we must keep different cruise schedules. [emoji23]

Based on our 90 min or so in the martini bar last night, I'd estimate maybe 15% of ladies were very dressed up. The rest ranged from less dressy than I'd wear on a regular night [emoji23], to a nice effort but not formal. As for men, a few jackets, some with a tie but most not, and lots with no jackets. I would say that for anyone on upcoming cruises on Equinox, you can get away with whatever you want. Wear what makes you happy and live and let live or it'll drive you mad. [emoji12]

  10. Thanks - nice to be back. We have been doing more "land trips" and also been on RCCL but are looking forward to our return to X in Feb. Haven't been on Silhouette yet so should be great.

So glad to see you back. Your review helped me dream big before my trip

  11. I was also very impressed by Lisa. She is doing quite a bit to improve diversity especially in areas that have been predominantly male over the years. Her commitment to the crew was evident.

She was asked about Cuba as a port. Apparently even the Millennium class ships are too big to dock there and the infrastructure is not able to support tendering. But if and when the situation improves they would like to include Cuba as a port but not as a destination. In other words, as a day visit but not for several days as some cruise lines currently do.

They are also going to replace Choice Air with new flight services in conjunction with cruises since 82% of passengers fly to the departure ports. I don't recall exactly but something like Flights by Celebrity is the branding and it will incorporate some kind of mileage program. All still under development.

I left before it ended but no question had been asked about the web site. But they had another blurb on the daily schedule today asking us for our comments specifically on web access. Sounds like they know there are issues!

Thank you for sharing. I personally love the prices on choice air but I fly them on international trips. The price can't be beat. But obviously you can't make everyone happy. If you could, our country wouldn't be in the political state that it is. Sometimes these boards, which bring me so much enjoyment, sadly remind that you just can't please everyone

  12. What you were looking at above is the salmon and crab parfait. Dover Sole and a cheese plate for desert with a 20 yr tawny port. Tonight's dinner is in Tuscan.

The weather today is beautiful. A bit humid but sunny with a nice breeze. Welcome to paradise. Here is today's Daily.
