I bought the Premium Package on my last cruise (over Thanksgiving). It was a perfect opportunity to try many different drinks. But, my favorite remains the Long Island: equal parts tequila, vodka, gin, rum, triplesec, sweet & sour, topped with splash of coke. I did notice not all bar tenders on board included the tequila -- I had to be sure to specify (One bar tender said it was against RCI policy to serve any drink with more than 4 spirits in a glass --- odd, since it's not a Long Island without all the ingredients :0 ) . I had a great time, and definitely recommend the drink packages for 4 or 5 nite cruises ... For longer cruises think I would tire out by day 6.

Our experience has been that if you book online in advance thru the pre cruise planner they do not check but if you wait to buy thru the excursion desk on board they will not book it for you (your age displays on the screen in their reservation system). It has not been an issue when booked in advance but that does sort of commit you to the excursion before knowing weather and other opportunities, etc.

Also consider the length of the cruise (3, 4, 7 - day, etc.).

My experience in November, after the new drink packages became available, is that they swipe at every bar, every time for both alcoholic and non-alcoholic packages ... Didn't have to actually sign anything, but they always swiped our cards and said thank you when they handed the cards back.

Try making a mock reservation on line for your cruise. Looks like plenty on Inside, OV, and some suites. Limited number of Balconies.

Thanks for a nice review! We were on the 4-day Thanksgiving cruise on the Brilliance just prior to your embarkation. We will be back on board for the 5-day you've just enjoyed on January 4th ... Also in a JS! Looking forward to larger bath and closet ! We love all the Radiance class ships although the centrism in the Brilliance seems smaller and tighter than the others.

Thanks for blogging. We'll be reading your posts. We embark on the Brilliance out of Tampa on Thanksgiving Day, then again right after new years eve on Jan 4 2014.

The train from Anchorage will arrive with hundreds of cruisers around 11AM. Bus transportation will arrive prior to 11AM with dozens of cruisers. The line at check in goes fast with only dozens ... Hundreds at once tend to cog the process. If you can board before the train arrives it will go quicker.

By the way, we have seen the solarium open on the Grandeur --- but sadly we have never seen them open on a Radiance class ship (of course one cruise was in Alaska ... A bit chilly for an open solarium)

We head out on the BOS in 2 weeks ... I love the Radiance class ships. But, can we please kept the Park Cafe secret a secret? Really is a nice quick breakfast option - I love that it is never too busy :-)

We sailed from Seward in May 2013. We got off the train from anchorage at 11AM and walked over to board ... If was quite crowded at check in (everyone from the train trying the board at once.) The line moved pretty slow, but everyone got on :-)

I know I don't need a reservation for MTD but it wasn't available when I booked my cruise. I was subsequently wait-listed for MTD.
If you've been wait listed there is a good chance you'll clear the list and be assigned to MTD before your cruise date. Keep checking your "my cruises" on Royal Caribbean online. Any status changes will be reflected there regardless of whether you use a TA or booked direct.

How did you find out if the desired time opened up (without having to call the TA or RCI)? We are booking for Navigator for April and want early seating but we are wait listed. Thanks for your help.
In my experience, if you booked with a TA, you will need to call the TA or book a mock reservation on line to the point that it displays available dining options. Regardless, you will need to make any switch thru your TA. Recently I have discovered that whatever option is my preference seems to be not available on the time of initial reservation. I call frequently until I can get on a wait list. We've always cleared the wait list prior to sailing. Keep trying for what you want.
