  1. Thanks to everyone for the tips! Does the public seating on deck 7 have chairs or standing only? My extended family is traveling together and unable to get plans synched in time to get a ressie for the aquatheater, so I am thinking this location may be a great alternative for our party of 10.

We are just off Oasis. We were in the back row on Deck 6. The only people on deck 7 by the rock climbing walls during the Aqua performance were some of the performers, who were doing some aerial stunts and that was their starting or ending point. Not sure if there are seats there too, but thought I'd mention about the performers staging there.

  2. Does anyone know if Oasis also does the donuts in the morning in front of the Hotdog place?[/quote

Wondering the same thing as on Oasis, inaugural cruise out of Port Canaveral. Excited to have Oasis near our home.Been on her twice as love this floating resort.Have last boardwalk cabin looking at water theater on Deck 10.

No donuts! We are on now.

  3. We got a fancy cabana at the suite beach at Labadee for our honeymoon a few years ago. I'm a mosquito magnet, but my husband can get away without a bite. I was swatting mosquitos the whole time in the cabana while he relaxed and napped quietly on his lounger. I had 10 (!) itchy bites by the end of the day. It's worth bringing something.

  4. There are blow dryers in cabins but they are very weak. Some people bring their own. Plug in theirs or yours by the desk. No irons because they are fire hazards. We unpack everything ASAP & send everything that needs pressing out the first day. (There is a cost for that service.) I try to roll clothes & bring mostly wrinkle free items but there are always a few things we get pressed.

  5. We stayed at Hampton in the financial district. Within walking distance to a number of restaurants & shopping, and a Publix (for picking up post-flight sunscreens etc). Pretty sure we got a shuttle to the port, but might have been a cab. I don't think we have stayed in any other Hampton that looked as fancy. Really nice area and prices dropped over the weekend because the business travelers went home.

  6. I'm in my 40's & still bring gowns, but I don't tend to bring the heavily beaded or sequined ones just because they weigh so much more. It's more of a practical packing thing.

  7. We sailed Allure once in the winter (early Feb, couple years ago). We had an early afternoon departure on US Air (now American) and waited to get off as long as possible. When we got there, we realized 1) there were quite a few ships in port all disembarking at the same time, and 2) there were ice storms in other states that caused mass cancellations. We did the luggage valet (I highly recommend if you can), so we did not need to go to the ticket counter and only had to go through the VERY long security line (took us about an hour). That said, the ticket counter was full not only of people checking luggage, but also everyone who was experiencing cancelled connections and had to rebook their flights. Everyone has different experiences, and you might need to just go with the flow and be flexible with your plans. I'm mentioning our experience because you are cruising during winter like we did, and weather made travel difficult for many who had connecting flights or were waiting on a plane coming in from another location. Good luck and have a fantastic vacation!

  8. I learned from another couple several years after hauling countless souvenirs home (and after the 50lb suitcase limit) that there is nearly always a keychain everywhere you go. It is little, costs little, and weighs little. On most trips, I try to visit multiple locations, so rather than pick up art, or jewelry, or breakable items I claim a keychain.

  9. My absolute favourite brand and total obsession. I would buy their whole collection if I could

    They are called Irregular Choice

    I'm obsessed

Where do you buy these? And are they comfortable too, or just fabulous in every other way?

  10. Something by J Maarten Troost. He writes books about his travel experiences that are pretty hilarious but also informative. The first couple are about when he went to live in the Pacific islands. Don't let their titles scare you though. Just read a few pages and you will be hooked.

  11. Be sure if you rent a scooter you leave something identifiable on it while you go in to dinner or a show to avoid confusion & take a picture with it. My parents cruised with us for their 50th & my mother rented a scooter. On the *first night* it disappeared after our second seating dinner. Someone from first seating thought it was theirs & apparently the keys are often interchangeable even from different rental companies. What's more fascinating is that someone had taken his. It was a 3-way scooter mess, and although security had seen it happen before this was their first scooter triangle mystery. Luckily security had ours back by the next day. It's a funny story in retrospect but we were so perplexed at the time!

  12. One more thought... we had a normal time out of FLL on Allure once, and thankfully we used luggage valet & didn't need to check bags at the airport. A freak ice storm hit several cities (this was late January a couple years back) causing cancellations all over the country. The line for checking bags/changing flights was crazy long. We only had to stand in the crazy long security line, which would be a second line if checking bags. Remember there are several ships in port getting passengers off all at the same time & they are heading to the airport too.

  13. We had a CP Balcony on the Allure several years ago, and it was very relaxing. We are sailing Oasis this December and snagged another CP Balcony. I've heard good and bad things about the Boardwalk balcony rooms -- mainly the negative comments are about noise and the merry go round bell. Being on the interior balconies in either neighborhood, you do have to remember to keep your curtains closed.

  14. I have looked at such lovely shoes in this forum and I just have to join! I'm past my high heel days, but always on the lookout for interesting colorful sneakers. Hope to see a lot more awesome shoes and bond with other shoe lovers. Here is a pair of sneakers I just love!

I recently bought these fun sneakers & they are SO comfortable! They have a slight wedge in them, but it's barely noticeable. I get compliments on them every time I wear them. Since you like colorful sneakers, I felt compelled to share my find. :)

  15. On the Allure, at 7am directly across from the dog house on the boardwalk, they bring out a cart of fresh doughnuts. First come first serve, do it yourself. I don't think they bring any more when they run out, so you have to get there early or you miss out.

Hubby & I are sailing on December 23rd. I am really loving all the ideas and can't wait for our cruise. Where are you, Christmas?

We are too!! We have never sailed during the holidays before.

Don't forget to join the roll call!

  16. I don't get seasick as a general rule, but every once in a while I get the woozy head feeling. In Hawaii, the trip from Maui back to Honolulu was a slow one and we just rocked with the waves. I was totally sober, but I felt like I couldn't walk in a straight line and my head was messed up. One of the crew got me a Ginger Ale & Bitters from the bar (non alcoholic). He said it's like this every week since it's a short distance, and the crew swears by it. It worked really well. On a cruise last year on the Jewel in the Caribbean I had a similar bout. I went straight to the bar and asked for Ginger Ale & Bitters, and the bartender's first question was, "You're not feeling well?" I have no idea why it works, but I'm sticking to it. No drowsiness or side effects, but it's not preventative.
