  1. I understand that most transfer services and cabs just drop off at the shuttle station at the port where you can catch the bus. ? .............

If I'm going to pay for a transfer, I want one to take us all of the way there and not have to wait for a shuttle.

    Hi,

I do not have an actual experience ( yet) but I hope that we will be picked up at the ship.

I booked with a company that advertises pick up at the ship. ..... and it is none of the big ones .... and not too expensive. Port (pick up In Front your Ship)- from/to- Airport Rome or Rome City or Vice versa

    • SedPlace of pick : CIVITAVECCHIA PORT SHIP JEWEL OF THE SEASan 1 to 3 Passengers €120 euro.

    • Van 4 to 8 passengers €150 euro.

Civitavecchia Port (pick up In Front your Ship)- from/to- Airport Rome or Rome City or Vice versa

    • Sedan 1 to 3 Passengers €120 euro.

    • Van 4 to 8 passengers €150 euro..

  2. I........... very excited about my June cruise on NCL. My roll call is very slow.. I've never experienced this before. By this time we all were looking for tours but it seems this cruise people are very slow to join. Anyone experience this before?

Our roll call for the cruise on Jewel in first part of July is also very slow ..... with very few participants ....... so different than our last roll call for a TA cruise. It is our first cruise from Civitavecchia so I am learning from all of the posts in this section. Some of the posters are very helpful with the information that they provide.

  3. Hi,

it seems to be your first post - so welcome to the CC.

I am sure you will learn a lot from some already posted helpful suggestions.

I have been on this CC board for many years but I am learning a lot new things that are helpful in the planning of our july cruise from Rome ( Civitavecchia).- ( our first Med. cruise).

Good luck - keep reading and ask questions - there are some good posters here willing to help.

You might want to join your roll call and see what other people on the same cruise are planning.to do ..

  4. [quote name=cruisemom42;52090047.......

(If you ask me' date=' RIL charging 70 euro for the trip is as much -- if not more -- of a scam....)[/quote]

    ........

I agree. Rome in Limo is way too expensive.

    Hi,

I am glad to see both of these comments - I feel the same way.

I was going to book them for our transfer from FCO to Civitavecchia and back to FCO after the cruise ........ but they want a lot more what other transfer companies are charging.

  5. Hi wolfcathorse,

a fellow Michigander likes to thank you for this thread ..... it has to be a lot of work .... all the names, ships and so many rotations .

I do not book a cruise based on 'who the Master /Captain' will be, but it is so nice and pleasant to meet a person /Captain that we like for whatever reason .

On our last cruise in Dec. (Serenade) we did not expect to meet Captain Krzysztof (even that I knew from your thread that it was his rotation) .... but we did when one morning we were getting coffee at the CL.

He recognized and remembered us from another cruise and we 'knew' him as well. It was a happy reunion and it made the cruise even more enjoyable.

    Thanks wolfcathorse for your 'work'.

  6. Keep in mind that you do get 3 drink vouchers per evening to use at any bar, so you can join your friends.

Is there a specific time period during the evening ( same time as during the DL offer) or any time up to midnight ?

Can the voucher be used in the show theater bar or when ordering a drink from the 'server' at the show ?

Can I get a reduced amount of alcohol or no alcohol at all in the drink ?

The 'tip' is or is not included ? If not - how much should it be ?

  7. Hi,

    Ok, I found your thread.

I was on the cruise that you were asking about the compasses.

Trainman was doing a live report and he posted all the compasses.

    Here is the link:

    http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2428273&highlight=serenade

When you click on the link you should go to page 7 and about post 136 you will find the start of his posted compasses. He got the rest of them a page or two later.

BTW. We enjoyed the cruise and had a good time. It was a 10 day cruise so a little different than yours will be.

  8. We are sailing on the SOS our first 11 day in Feb. Do you have any cruise compasses to share?

    Hi,

It seems that the OP is not on line so you are not getting an answer to your request.

I do know where you can get/view all the compasses from this cruise but I am not sure if it is 'ok' to provide the link on this thread, since it belongs to someone else.

Could you just start a new thread with the request for the compasses and I will provide you the information there.

  9. ..... I had a bag go missing at debarcation last year because the tag was torn off. I am considering preventing that this year by reinforcing the tag with clear plastic tape. What do you think? Any other suggestions?

I always use the tape and it does make the tags a lot stronger ..... in addition if I am concern about loosing a tag, I do attach more than one tag ( one on top and one on a side - so If one gets torn off, the other one might be still on.

  10. Just wondering if there is any rhyme or reason to luggage tags for those without any type of priority. Just took my first RCL cruise on IOS. I was in an OV on Deck 2 and had luggage tags 31. Would that be the case most of the time? On NCL, I've picked the luggage tag based on what time I wanted to leave the ship. Nothing serious, just curious!

I am sure there is some rhyme or reason for the different numbers of the tags ..... some people need to leave very early and others ( like us on the last cruise) have very late flights and they want to be the last ones to leave the ship. We had tag number 35 and left the ship about 9:45, they had our flight number and there was no hurry to get to the airport.

  11. Hi all

My two sisters and I (from UK) are bringing our 84 year old father (fully mobile, own hair and teeth!!!!!!) on this cruise.

Does anyone know if there are usually people of this age group on Royal Caribbean cruises and activities he might enjoy?

    Many thanks

    Hi,

we left the Serenade two days ago ( the 12th) and in the MDR the table next to us had 5 ladies dining........ one was 93, two were 82 and the other two someplace in between. They looked very well and dressed up every night ...... so there might be similar ladies on his cruise ....... and he might find 'activities' that he will enjoy.

  12. I'm worried about sea sickness. I could get the patch for $40 but not sure what the side effects are. Is bonine better than Dramamine? I don't want to be sleepy when drinking! Thank you for any help

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

    Hi,

I do not know what will work well for you, or even if you need anything ..... but it is good to be prepared.

.I used scopolamine patch many years ago and had some bad side effects ( you might want to read what they are or what they could be).

Meclizine works for me and also for my wife, .... we are not the same weight so each takes a different dosage.

Check with your doc see what he/she recommends.

  13. Can't remember the rotation duration but is Captain Ante Cavala the Master for this cruise date?

    Thanks so much !

    Hi,

rotation ( according to a lot of postings here) is 10 weeks. They should be rotating this week. But.... who knows they make their own arrangements sometimes.

Grandeur OTS - Capt Thordur Thorsson (started rotation 8-18-16)

Grandeur OTS - Capt Ante Cavala

So if you are asking about Jan 3, 2017 ( not 2016) - ? It looks like it is a week for a change.

  14. Hi,

I just found and read the sad news ...... I do not visit this section of the board often so I missed it.

I do remember Greatam - when I had a question about a flight on one of the airlines ...... Greatam provided a detailed and helpful answer.

I will miss this helpful poster.

  15. OP: ....... Is your flight nonstop to Canada on something other than Alitalia? If yes, the flight may leave from T3, but really god chance you have to start at T5 for all the preliminaries.

    Hi,

I hope that the OP will not mind that I am asking you this question : If my flight is direct from FCO to YYZ on Air Transat and Transat is listed on T3 , do I have to go to T5 first for some 'preliminaries' ? and then go back to T3 to the proper gate ?

    How does that work ?

  16. ..... Hypothetical: Perhaps they were lenient in the past, but on the day before your flight, management says "Enforce the rules, we need the bag revenue".

So....what's your risk tolerance level? Read the words from Harry in my sig below.

    Hi,

thank you...... I might not like your answer / advise but it is the correct one .... as you pointed out...... I will buy a new carry on case that will satisfy Transat requirements for the dimensions that they listed.

It seems that Transat is the only one ( that I found) that requires the 20 in height, But the width that they listed (16 in) is wider than some of the other airlines list ..... so even that case will not be the one that I can use on some other airlines.

On this particular trip I will be flying on 3 airlines: Transat. Alitalia and Air Belrin and each has different sizes of carry on listed. So the bag has to be small enough to satisfy each airline's requirements..... I hope that I can find one.

I wish there was a standard size used by all the airlines so one would not have to buy a new carry on depending what air line one is flying on.

  17. ...... Best pizza ever! Enjoy :-)/QUOTE]

    Hi,

thank you for the review / comments ....... I /we are already settled on going to this restaurant when we get to Civitavecchis ( there will be 8 of us and everyone likes pizza) and your review is very helpful.

Have a question for you: is tipping practiced and accepted in restaurants in Italy ? I know there is an old saying : "When in Rome do as the Romans do".

  18. Anyone know of restaurants in the general vicinity of Hotel Traiano in Civitavecchia?

    Hi,

I have not been there yet .... but I am looking at the maps ( getting ready for our visit there next year).

If you look at the map ( link below) it shows a lot of restaurants and 3 are not far from your hotel. I do not know when the map was updated, so there maybe more restaurants that are not listed on this map. Click on the: " also show" and choose " restaurants".
