  1. Can anybody who stayed in this or nearby room please advise on the following:

We are two adults in our forties going on this cruise in couple of weeks without kids. We had Balcony GTY, were assigned room at the end of Deck nine, same side, category BD (not an AFT Balcony). Since our price dropped I called back for some upgrade and was offered Family Balcony 12768, category B2. I see that it is a connecting room and on the same floor with Splash Academy, but not directly across from it. Is this good for two adults no kids or should I call back to see if I can get a different room? (I booked through TA. I wish I could just call back myself, but I have to go through Ta every ). All help is appreciated.

(I also posted this question on Cabins Forum, sorry for duplication.) Thanks.

  2. Hi, all.

We are two adults in our late forties going on Breakaway in couple of weeks and were upgraded to Family balcony 12768. I see that it is a connecting room and not very far from Splash academy. We are going on a cruise without kids. Did anyone had experience with the cabin before? Is it a mistake to accept this room for two adults? Originally we were assigned cabin at the end, but not Aft balcony, on deck 9. all thoughts are appreciated. Thanks.

  3. I believe there are some Harley Davidson products available in EagleRider. Contact them directly. Adrian is the owner. We did two tours with him on two separate cruise stops in Cozumel in 2012 and 2014 (rented FAT BOY and Adrian took us around the island). We received some headgear and t-shirts as gifts, but I don't recall if they were Harley's or EagleRider's made. Adrian will most likely respond to you and help you out. We were very impressed with the service he provides. Look up other reviews on CC or Trip Advisor about EagleRider (there are many, all excellent), plus some people from those threads may give you more info. They seem to be real bike enthusiasts.:)

  4. When we were boarding the taxi in the Falmouth cruise ship port, an attendant filling up the cars stated that we must pay full fair of $20. However, when we arrived at the Dr.Cove beach, my husband asked the driver if it's o.k. to give him half the fair. The driver took 1/2 with no problems. (As I wrote above he failed to pick up , so it worked out better that way.)

  5. Anyone stay in or near cabin 8548 -category D8..outside balcony.

Since it is so far forward, could feel a lot of ship motion?

Is bed next to balcony or nearer to door?

Booked this because midship was $800 more for two of us and thought that was a little pricey. Thanks for any info.

On our January, 2014 Allure sailing we didn't feel any motion on any portion of the ship. As a matter of fact, it felt that we were in a land based resort at all times. It was hard to tell if the ship was pulling away from pier or still docked. We had to find a landmark and judge by distance from the ship to tell whether it started moving. We were on deck 8 midship. You will love this cruise.

    Enjoy.

  6. Don't forget your boxing gloves!

News reports of fistfights between passengers last week when the Breakaway had a delayed return to port in New York. I believe the delay was 3 hours.

Perhaps NCL can install a boxing ring like Royal's larger ships for such situations! Passenger enhancements!

I was just looking through Grandeur related posts and came upon your comment. You have great sense of humor. Very funny. Thank You.

  7. Each ship has its own personality and while we like the larger Solstice class Celebrity ships we also really enjoy the smaller Grandeur. The crew on Grandeur is wonderful and even though it is an older ship it has been recently updated and is sparkling. If you are looking for slides, wave runners, ice skating, miniature golf and aqua shows you are on the wrong ship. Grandeur is quieter in a very nice way. It is good for relaxation and not being part of a mob. There are still plenty of activities including shows, bingo, the casino, activities in the Centrum, aerial shows, trivia, demonstrations, tours, and movies on the big screen on the pool deck but not the WOW of the Oasis and larger ships. Success and satisfaction on any voyage has a lot to do with expectations. I expect to relax, eat well, be entertained and enjoy myself with a nice group of fellow travelers. The celebrity ships are larger than the Grandeur and we enjoy their understated elegance and low key activities. :)

    Agree on every point.

  8. For me, yes. I would expect the cruise line to respect smokers and non-smokers, and treat everyone in a friendly manner. I have not cruised since the new policy went into effect, but will be on the Grandeur in 2 weeks. I have never had an issue before, and I would hope I never do.

I totally respect everyone's right to not be exposed to the smoke. I truly mean that. But I would be nice to have a comfortable place for people that do smoke, to be able to enjoy their cigarette/cigar, ecig.

I have read several reports of the smoking areas not having the ashtrays emptied. As a smoker, I would like a place to go that is properly maintained and clean of overflowing cigarette butts. I don't believe that is too much to ask. A place that doesn't interfere with people that want to avoid the smoke.

Sharod, I am a smoker too and appreciate your post. We are sailing on Grandeur next winter. Can you, please tell me where you were able to enjoy your cig. on you March (or was it April?),2014 sailing. Thank You.

  9. I wouldn't worry about the cabin location. Once your stateroom door is closed the room will be quiet. We've been in a cabin near the Centrum and didn't have any noise issues.

My only concern about going out of Baltimore in February is that there could be snow on the deck until you get a day or so out of port!

We love the Grandeur and have two cruises booked on her in 2014.

GiannaD, Thank You for the reply.

I am very reassured hearing from you and the previous poster, stating that Grandeur is a great ship. I see that you sailed on Equinox and other newer, larger vessels. I was really worried about Grandeur due to all negative reviews. On the other hand, we recently sailed Breakaway and we could not comprehend what people were complaining about. Thanks again.

  10. Grandeur really is a very nice ship with a great crew. If you enjoy alternative venues for dining outside of the MDR, they offer Chops, Giovanni's Table, Izumi, Chefs Table, and also have the Park cafe. The Centrum Aerial act is very unique and originates from deck 7. They also offer a pool side big screen and a very nice Solarium adult pool area.

We will be on her again in July. Enjoy your cruise!

    Thank You and you too.

  11. We have been in 7100 before which is 11 cabins aft of that location, but just on the other side of the Centrum, and had no issues with noise at all. There is a wall between the Panoramic Ocean View Staterooms right at the Centrum which results in a hallway that is separated from direct exposure to the Centrum. The rooms you indicate are also in the hallway. I would not expect that area to have particular noise issues. In any event the music and other activity on deck 4 in the Centrum usually is over by 11:00 PM.

7110 / 7112 would certainly be fine as they are further aft down the hall. Don't think there would be noticeably more motion there as a result.

Maybe others can add their experience as well.

Thank You so much for your response. We are looking forward to our February, 2015 sailing to Bahamas.

  12. Could someone who have sailed in one of those cabins (or identical ones across the hall #7576/7578) please, advise if the location is too noisy due to proximity to the Centrum (from what I can tell by looking at the deck plan). We have never sailed Grandeur before. Your inputs are appreciated.

My other options would be more posteriorly located cabins, such as 7110/7112, but I think there is less rocking mid-ship versus more aft.

    Thank You.

  13. To Xina143: Breakaway is a beautiful, classy ship. Everything is new, modern, but at the same time done in classical style. We enjoyed our trip. We don't sweat small staff, so for us all was well. Service and food were not much different from the Allure. We only ate at MDR once and it was mediocre, but paid venues and buffet were good on both ships. Entertainment was significantly better on Allure. Service was the best on Celebrity Equinox. Overall, I would recommend sailing on Breakaway if price is right. We had balcony cabin mid ship for $509 per person before taxes November 16,2013. If we paid a thousand per person for that cruise we might felt differently (or not). I would definitely sail it again, but for February school break for two cabins it is too expensive for us. Grandeur is about 40% cheaper.

  14. I was on this sailing as well. Loved the ship, staff.....so friendly. We did have super calm seas....so, I am sure everyone enjoyed that! No mini golf...but lots of other things to do. I was concerned about the NVirus...but was surprised to find the ship so clean. To my knowledge, no one was sick from it and the staff said it was gone!! I loved the food in MTD. Did not eat in the WJ but chose the Park Cafe instead which I thought was great. The only complaint I had was my cabin was close to the centrum and I would not advise that. The music was really loud and didn't stop till after 11p.m. Check out the cabin map and chose wisely. Overall, I thought it was a great cruise and went smoothly....no issues!! I would give the Grandeur high marks!

We booked a D1 (balcony cabin) on the 7th floor by mid-ship staircase. I have looked at the map and it is a third or so cabin from the opening of the Centrum. Is it a loud location?

Also, I am a little worried going on Grandeur. We sailed Allure 01/2014, NCL Breakaway 11/2013 and Celebrity Equinox 12/2012. Those ships are all much bigger and newer vessels and we loved each trip. Any thoughts? We are sailing during February school break 2015 with three kids who never been on a cruise (16 y.o., 15 y.o., and 10 y.o.) in two connecting balcony cabins.

  15. Olya1972-

We are going on the Grandeur out of Baltimore during President's week, but in 2016. We have 2 cabins; a panoramic ocean view (supposedly 220sq ft) and an aft JS. I called today and saved $1200 (well, $1190 to be precise) from my original booking. Hold time was quite long, but obviously well worth it. I thought about upgrading the JS to a GS for the same price, but opted for the savings instead.

So easy to do. I just said I wanted to take advantage of the price drop/sale, and boom, done. $1200 to donate to the casino.

    Chris

Thank You for your response. I have booked two connecting balcony cabins using the BOGHO promo and C&A reduced rates and for 5 people the price is $816 per person before tax.

  16. We have booked today for the week of February 13th, 2015 for eight nights for 1,855 for a D1 balcony cabin. I am also worried that it is too early to book and last minute prices can drop significantly. We actually booked two cabins, second one is an adjacent balcony and is for three people and that one was 2,800. So, overall it costs us 4,650. Is not this expensive for older, smaller ship? Don't get me wrong. I do want to experience the ship, but last November we booked Breakaway shortly before sailing for $509 before taxes per person for a balcony room. So, if anybody has the experience with Grandure's prices for February sailing, please let me know. I have till tomorrow to sign the contract with online travel company. BTW, that company charges 100 dollars cancellation fee per cabin.

  17. I have booked during one of the above named agencies Memorial Day MEGA SALE, BY INVITATION ONLY, etc. After that I kept watching the price/perks till departure nine month latter. Once the price went down, the perks went down with it, so at the end it equaled out. It was the biggest amount of perks they offered on that holiday compared to their other quarterly or whatever holiday sales.

  18. There's no way to predict pricing. I'd book now to take advantage of the 50% off second guest promo.

Thank You. When I priced at the promo rates yesterday the difference was only two+ hundred dollars for two cabins versus the price for the same cabins few days ago before sale. They have changed something with C&A credit I was getting without 50% off promo so at the end there were no significant savings. I am paying for both cabins, so I really would prefer the bottom dollar rate.
