I was asked to find out how much this couple might be out of pocket if they have cruise line insurance or no insurance. Their best friend is making himself sick thinking about how much they might be out.

The wife had a massive heart attack but cruise Dr. able to get her ready to fly to Barbados (nearest port). That hospital did all they could do and then told them they had to fly to Miami for the care she needed. I am pretty sure she is going to make it.

Does anyone know what the cost of each leg might be if they are insured and also if they are not insured.

      Thank you for helping.

The cost would be the same whether you have insurance or not. The question then would be if you had insurance, how much would they cover. Every travel insurance is different so the only people that could answer that is the specific travel insurance company for coverage and the hospital and medical care / evacuation for costs. Repatriation can be very expensive that's why most people who cruise get some type of medical travel insurance.

Anybody have any up to date information on the unionized dock worker strikes in France beginning in June 4?

We’re tentatively scheduled to port in Marseille on June 18 on the Oasis of the Seas.

https://crisis24.garda.com/alerts/2024/06/france-unionized-dock-workers-to-strike-nationwide-june-4-28#:~:text=Unionized port workers affiliated with the Federation Nationale, the labor action is to denounce retirement reforms.

This happened to me in Le Havre back in 2016 -- had to dock in Dover, England instead. Apparently strikes are a common occurrence in France. RCI finds alternatives though. Missing Marseille is no biggie, IMO.

The latest trend is that discretionary spending is down on personal goods as retailers are fighting consumer inflation fatigue.

As of now, airlines have had record passengers this Memorial Day weekend. NCL is stating that they had excellent booking numbers.

Some of the investors are moving money into stocks involved with travel from consumer retail stocks.

I think the great predictor will be when airline passenger miles start to drop significantly.

Yes, the question is when.  However analysts have give RCL a target price of $172 in the near future - will hold on to it until then 🤞

    What is an issue here?

This is a new rule and has nothing to do with luck.

All E+ and D+ were not getting matching statuses before this change.

Now we all will get it.

Zenith/Pinnacles were even in worse position. 😉

I think what they meant was they were already D+ and E+ on both lines so they are not getting anything extra by this new status match. Those that are gaining the most are Pinns that never sailed X as they are now Zenith and vice versa for Zeniths that never sailed on RCI as they are now Pinns.

  5. I can see young people being asked but older folks, some not speaking a lick of Spanish and with cruise tickets in hand? They are not going to think you’ll be going there to find a job. From personal experience, I have never been asked for proof of funds and have travelled extensively throughout Spain and Europe. This is the first I hear of this. I’m flying to Barcelona this week and will not be carrying paper bank statements with me. Unless this is a new requirement, it sounds like total BS.

D+ and Pinn translated to Elite along with D.  Now, they translate into an equivalent status. On both lines, okay.  That's a choice to cruise on both prior to this change.  What exactly did they expect?  Special treatment?  This just levels it.  Royal didn't have to do anything.

I’m certainly not complaining it’s a step up for me. Just pointing out that for a few this translates into no change at all.

To kind of get back on track, there are people on FB losing their minds.  They are demanding that points also be shared across the lines.  Someone also said, this really isn't a change.  Really?  Did they read the status match info?

It isn’t a change for those who were already Elite+ and Diamond+ on both lines using their respective points - see the other thread. That really sucks for them yet for the majority it is a step up and a much needed and wanted improvement.

  8. On another note, X has a VIP Access (like the Key on RCI) which IMO, is a much better value than The Key. It includes the following:

    What's Included

    • Premium Wi-Fi for two devices.
    • Complimentary room service, unlimited (waived delivery fee & gratuities)
    • Early access at the terminal. (See FAQs for more information)
    • Priority luggage delivery to staterooms.
    • Welcome lunch in the main dining room served from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm; be sure to select an early boarding time.
    • Priority departure from ship to shore in ports that require tender service.
    • Reserved seating at shows in The Theatre.
    • Express luggage service in the terminal when debarking.

    Important details and advisements

    • When you receive your SeaPass card, it will have an icon confirming your purchase of Premium Access.
    • Premium Access must be purchased prior to sailing by each guest age 6 or older assigned to the same stateroom.
    • *YOU MAY ALREADY HAVE ACCESS TO THESE BENEFITS: Before purchase, refer to your stateroom category amenities and your loyalty status to confirm.

it's an interesting program, but not new.  Power Up Points have been around for several years

Yes interesting indeed. I thought it was new since I haven't cruised Celebrity in a while. I have a X cruise coming up in November and just joined the program. Thanks for the clarification.

  10. Yaaay! Free specialty coffee and 2 bags of laundry for me - a welcome change! Also Celebrity lets you earn points online by filling out surveys and online stuff at home which get converted to Captain's Club points - this is new as well:

    How It Works

Here’s how it works. We’ll email you an activity to participate in and you’ll earn a set number of Power Up Points when you complete it. Those points will convert into Club Points and automatically be added to your Captain’s Club Points bank. For every 10 Power Up Points earned, you’ll get 1 Club Point. For example, if you participate in a survey worth 20 Power Up Points, you’ll get 2 Club Points added to your Club Point bank.* The more you participate, the more you’ll earn.

    * All Power Up Points earned in a calendar month will be converted to Club Points and added to a participating member’s Club Point balance within 14 days of month’s end. View Full Terms and Conditions here.

  11. From the sound of it you'd think some people only dine in 4-star Michelin restaurants. They take food snobbery to the next level! There are some upscale foodie cruises out there where you can put on your bougie, but cruising on RCI is not one of them.  Personally, I cruise for other aspects altogether but I guess food is paramount for some.

  12. Jason Liberty sold 50,000 shares RCL stock which was approximately $6.98 million, with a weighted-average price of $139.63 per share.

Following this sale, Liberty's direct ownership in Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. is 153,017 shares. So I'm not worried he's cashing out and sailing into the sunset. No other executive / director followed.  He could have myriad reasons to have taken out 6.98M. Graduation present? Gift to a family member? Who the frig knows. He does have a substantial number of shares left. I don't see this sale as an indication that the sky is falling - not for now at least.

I'm staying in especially when the average future target price (according to analysts) is $151 with a high estimate of $174.

Today from what I heard virgin has a IPO, expected in the $42 range. Newly come public. I was laying in bed at the time I heard it was coming today so not sure I got the initial pricing correct, but interesting.

Viking (VIK) is slated to go public on May 1st trading from $21 and $25 per share.
