  1. Our family is looking at renting a vehicle. I saw that Avis has mini van rentals for $69. YOu would then have the freedom to come and go as you please on a lower budget for 7. From what I hear it is a safe island and very easy to navigate.

  2. Thank you for responding...I did see one company where all of the fees to get into the parks, etc were covered. Now we need to sit down and see if it is cheaper for us to rent our own vehicle and pay as we go, or have a tour guide take us around and not pay for every attraction. I am seeing the chocolate factory is $15 a person, I am trying to see if that is even worth it, there are 4 of us...2 adults and 2 children.

  3. We are trying to figure out if we should rent a jeep or go on a private jeep tour. I kind of like the excitement and freedom of renting our own jeep, however, I am nervous about getting lost and not having the trusty GPS I have in my phone! Are gas prices outrageous? Is it easy to find and access local attractions? Parking easy to find? We want to snorkel in shallow water, visit Punta Sar, shop local, maybe check out the choclate factory and we defintely want to venture over to the East side of the island! Thank you for your feedback!

  4. We have only cruised one other time and that was with NCL. The first night we set sail they had a land and sea lover buffet, does Carnival do something similar to this? If so we don't want to miss it, I know many cruisers missed the one on NCL because it was not well advertised.

Also do they have a chocolate buffet one night? Seeing the different variety of dessert and the creations was memorable.

Off topic does Carnival have the famous white hot party?

  5. The excursion is 7 hours total. I thought Xcaret would be nice because of the cultural shows and the visuals. Not sure if I really want to spend all that time traveling though...have to really think about this one. Thanks!

  6. Is this excursion worth the money? The cruiseline wants $99 for adult and $60 for children. We made the mistake our first cruise buying tickets to Disney at our Port Orlando stop, we stood in line most of the excursion and only got about 4 hours at the theme park. Would love feedback on if it is worth the money, and with a time limit what are the top things to do? We will have a 6 and 10 year old with us.

  7. We have only sailed with a balcony so I do not know any differently. I enjoy having that extra, private, outdoor space to ourselves. My family liked opening the door and allowing the fresh ocean air into our rooms, standing on our balconies while we docked into ports and simply relaxing while cruising the ocean.

  8. We have finally decided to go on a Western Caribbean cruise aboard Carnival. I have only been on one other cruise and that was aboard NCL Gem, but prices are better on Carnival so we are literally jumping ship. I have found 3 ships, all sailing out of Florida to the same destinations: Cozumel, Belize, Grand Cayman and Isla Roatan. My question for you is which boat would you choose? Any positive or negatives? We plan on booking a balcony room and there will be myself, my husband and our two children.

Choose: Carnival Splendor, Carnival Valor, Carnival Glory

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! This forum is always so helpful when making decisions!

  9. I would like to spend some time on the beach, blue water and beautiful scenery, rain forests, shopping, culture, etc. Southern cruises are too long for us, we need to go out of FL and can only spare 7-8 days. I enjoy ports more than the ship. The only cruise we went on was out of NY to the Bahamas, it was cold, choppy waters and the pool was closed the entire time.

  10. We are trying to decide on which cruise to take. Any ports you did not care for? Any ports in the eastern or western that are a must see? St. Thomas, Tortola, Philipsburg, Grand Cayman, Hondorus, Cozumel, Costa Maya, Jamaica? I need help narrowing down our choices! We will be traveling with 2 children ages 6 and 10.

  11. My husband and I are ready to schedule our next cruise. Our first cruise was to the Bahamas, now we want to try a Caribbean cruise. What destinations do you recommend? Which ones were a waste? Eastern or western? When I booked my first cruise I came here for guidance and I am hoping with your help I can start narrowing down the many choices!

  12. Please report back if you have success. I too signed up when it was a 15,000 point offer a few weeks ago, but a couple days later it was back to 10,000. I'm skeptical that I'll get the 15,000. I don't have that in writing. I too made a purchase and paid it off so I'm just waiting for the points. Checked on BofA.com but the points haven't been credited. They do say it can take 2 cycles, or 60 days, or something like that.

I opened my card up the beginning of Jan...and immediately made my purchase. I got my first bill a few weeks later and paid it. I waited about 2 more weeks called regarding the special and my points, they said that I did have 15k points on my account that was eligible to be transferred over. I called the NCL number and they transferred my 15k into 150 OBC per my request:) Simple as that!

  13. We reserved a clam last April. It did come with two chairs. Besides piling our stuff on the chairs the clam shell was a waste of money for us. I personally would not rent one again because we just didn't use it.

Thanks:) If renting a shell guarantees me a few chairs I am all for it!

  14. I have heard a vast amount of information about this island, however, some of the information is outdated. Some have mentioned it has improved greatly. I was wondering if anyone that has been there the past year or so can answer my questions. Some people say there are plenty of chairs, some say there are not enough chairs. Even though we are a family of 4, I would only take 2 chairs, because I would never want to be that greedy to other famlies. I would just like someplace to sit down. Should we worry about seating? Also should we consider getting something that allows us to have shade? Some people say there is plenty of shade, some say there is no shade:/ Should I get life vests for my children who are 3 and 7.

  15. I signed up for the NCL card, under the conditions all I had to do was charge one thing and I got 15,000 points. I have made my purchase, got my first bill, paid it...now how do I go about redeeming the points? Do I call the credit card company or NCL? DOes anyone have the direct number I need to call to get the OBC transferred?

  16. I just booked my cruise and was offered the option to open up the NCL credit card. It says I would have 15,000 starting points after my first qualifying purchase. That means I would have a $150 onboard credit right?

If so, I should probably open one up...do I just need to use the credit card a few times and then I can claim it?
