  1. Hello all. It's been a while and we are thinking of booking a cruise on MSC. It will be our first cruise with them and one of the stops is their island Ocean Cay Marine. Does anyone know if they allow metal detecting there? Thanks in advance.

  2. We will be flying into San Francisco for an Alaskan Cruise. I have never been to SF so I have no idea where the cruise port is in relation to the airport. Looking for some help from experienced cruisers. Also any suggestions as to motels etc appreciated.

  3. We have taken 2 of our teenage grandsons on cruises with Carnival and Norwegian and they had a great time on both lines. I think they Carnival best though. We haven't taken them to Alaska yet but we are in June 2023. Already booked.

  4. We are looking at booking a cruise out of Orlando Beaches, Fl. We were planning to fly in but I'm not sure where to try to fly to? Orlando then drive over or is there a better option that someone has used? Thanks.

  5. We sailed the Star last month on our first cruise on NCL. I had read all the good and bad on here and I was a tad bit concerned. I told the wife I was going to write an in depth review when we returned whether it be good or bad. I am just now getting around to it and here it is. We had a great time! The food and service were great! The grandsons ages 14 & 10 had a great time. We enjoyed it so much we let them dupe us into putting a down payment on another cruise of our choosing in the future. We also picked up a new catch phrase, "washy washy." The end.

  6. the price you listed for the balcony and the mini suite, was that the total price for your party, or per person? who did you call to inquire about the upgrades? my family is cruising in march and are definitely hoping for an upgrade. thanks for the info

The way I understood the lady that was the price for the entire party. I just called the 800 number on the NCL website and the person I got transferred me to another lady when I told her I was looking to upgrade my room. The lady I got was named Mary but they prolly have 20 named that. lol There is another thread about upgrades or up sells where the person called and did the same thing I did. I just now found the # I had written down. 1.800.625.4309. That isn't the one I called but then I couldn't find the # at the time. HTH

  7. Is the cabin # on your online vacation summary the one you will definitely be assigned on ship? My reason for asking is that yesterday when I upgraded to a room with a view the lady told me we would be going to deck 8 with an obstructed view but this morning it shows a room on deck 5. Room 5520 to be exact. Large picture window and the only obstruction I can see is the waves. :) However I did read one review where the lady got seasick because of the location of the room. It's not really a big deal I don't think but we have always been more midship and no one has had any signs of seasickness. I guess it depends on how rough the sea is on those days. I'm thinking this room is going to be a long way from everything but at least there is light!

  8. That's a great steal! We are three adults and one child in an inside room, and praying I can land an upgrade just before we sail!

We're 2 adults and 2 children 14 & 10. The window room will be a little larger according to the lady I spoke with.

  9. Just got off the phone and I couldn't be happier. We sail 1/10/16 and I just upgraded our room from an inside room on deck 12 to a window room on deck 8 for $11.08. Yup $11.08. The room has an obstructed view so I will prolly be looking a a life boat but I will have daylight! For the price I am totally happy. They told me I could go to a balcony for $500 or a mini suite for $600 if anyone is interested.

  10. Congratulations! Enjoy the ride. The wife and I have been raising 2 of our grandsons for years and it is a blessing indeed. While some others only see their grandchildren once to a few times a year you get to see yours every single day! As far as what you need we have sailed with ours and all that was needed was their birth certificates. Have a great cruise. We leave 1/10/16 with ours.

  11. Thanks. This will be the vacation of a lifetime. I don't know the next time we will have the extra money to spend on such an extravagance. I just finished chemotherapy for breast cancer on December 17th, so this is a very special occasion.

Congrats! I took the wife on a cruise a few years ago after she finished her chemo for colon cancer so I understand how special it is. The wife is cancer free for 3 yrs now and I hope you have the same success.

  12. I am on Breakaway January 3-17th (14 nights), I called the upsell department this morning around 9:30am and was offered the Haven 2 Bedroom Suite for $2000 ($1000 per person, 1st 2 only, we are 2 adults and 1 child). We took it!

I have no experience with upsells so forgive my ignorance but are you saying you paid an additional $2000 on top of whatever you paid for cruise to get in the Haven?

  13. Before I decide who I think is right or wrong I need to know what DSC stands for. Y'all use way too many abbreviations for this land lubber. I googled the others I didn't know but came up empty on DSC. I am NOT trying to increase my post count, I'd really like to know.

Thanks SeaShark, I had already read all that hence the title of my post. That info is rather vague to me. Some juices can cover many many juices so how am I supposed to know which ones they mean? Also there is no mention of lemonade which apparently is available. I love tomato juice but my wife only drinks oj. Neither of us like prune juice, cranberry juice as well as others. That is why I was asking. I realize it may vary from cruise to cruise depending on what they can get the cheapest. It's never been a problem before and I don't anticipate it being one this time but I am a planner type person and don't like loose ends. lol Also thanks to all who replied about the lemonade!

  14. My wife asked me a question this morning and I can't find the answer so I have come for help. She wants to know what drinks are included for FREE and when with the cost of the cruise in freestyle dining. On a past cruise several years back she was able to get oj all day (different cruise line) then a few years later it was only available during breakfast (same line). We have never sailed NCL before and I've searched their site and can't find out anything so if someone can shoot me a link or just fill in our blanks it would be greatly appreciated. Looking forward to sailing on the Star 1/10/16.
