  1. Join our meet and greet and slot pull for the Star sailing Jan 10th.

    http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2169450

We have taken many NCL cruises, but never on the Star, or been to the ports we are sailing to.

We were getting Concerned about the problems with the ship too, but are happy to see a

Change for the positive. The last few reviews were more like we expect from NCL.

Can't wait for our time on the Star- thanks for the updates

    Safe sailing

Thanks for the invite but we'll pass.

  2. Hello all. I will admit up front that I only peruse this site when we have a cruise coming up but since we are sailing on the Star 1/10/16 and there has been a lot of bad talk about the ship and service and food etc I have spent more time here in recent months than usual. Believe it or not this is not about the Star. We're locked in and paid up so it is what it is and I can't change it but while reading these pages I have began to wonder if we (my family) are a unique family. We don't drink, we don't smoke, we don't gamble, and we sail with our grandsons (14 & 10). We only eat at the free places like the MDR or buffet etc and seldom take any excursions but we always have a great time. We don't go to be entertained, we go to relax and enjoy the atmosphere of sailing and warm weather. The boys enjoy the things that the ships provide for them to do and the wife and I enjoy just doing nothing. Maybe walking around the decks eating endless ice cream cones or just sitting in a deck chair looking out over the ocean at night. We might even play a hand or two of cards on a big nite. lol So anyone else like us?

  3. I'm not a food snob at all. I prefer a buffet to any other kind of restaurant although being able to order 2 of everything in the MDR is almost as good. I must say that I do prefer my toast just like the picture rather than what I called burnt. My wife like it what she calls crispy. I call it charcoal. :)

  4. Since I had never really looked at my User CP I had no idea I could hide avatars and sig lines.I also didn't know there was an ignore list. Thanks to those that shared this info I now see no avatars or sig lines and have started an ignore list. There is only one on it and it's not personal. I just don't care for extra LARGE type.

  5. Caribbean gets my vote as well as Carnival. Fun fun fun! I prefer to sail out of Tampa but Carnival isn't sailing out of there in Jan so we are taking our first on Norwegian in Jan. They do however sail out of many other ports and I'm sure with some time spent on their website searching cruises you can find something that will suit you. Good luck.

  6. I have never sailed on Norwegian so I know nothing but, when I was booking our Jan 10 cruise on the Star the cruise person I was talking to lead me to believe that there are different bed arrangements because I told her we wanted 2 pull downs and 2 regular beds she changed us to a different room on a different deck. Hopefully it will be what we wanted. You might call and check if you want something specific, you may be able to change. Good luck.

  7. I am also booked for Jan 2016 but out of New Orleans. I have read so many negative things about NCL that I have wondered should I go with another cruise line. I realized why I chose NCL in the first place. My husband dresses up for work every day. He wants to wear jeans and shorts. He wore jeans at the captains cocktail party and was still treated very well. He like to eat on vacation not vacation around his eating time. We are frugal people but splurged of the suite for the extra room, perks and service. No other cruise line can offer this at the same cost. Figure out what you want then decide who to pick. None of the changes recently made changes why I pick NCL.

Well actually the only reason I booked on NCL was because they sailed out of Tampa. Not really a good reason I know but it saves us a LOT of time, trouble and money. The inlaws spend the winter in their condo just 30 minutes or so north of Tampa so we can drive there and leave the car for FREE, spend the night for FREE, and they will drop us off at the port and pick us back up for Free. lol

My favorite part of cruising is eating. Really. I love to eat and I am not a snob about it. I am however cheap and will not pay to eat at any restaurant on a cruise ship when I can eat for free at the mdr or buffet. Hopefully most will be spending their money at the steakhouse and the buffet line will be short. :)

  8. I booked us on our first NCL cruise last week and I am going to try to keep an open mind despite the concerns of many on the changes that have been made. With no prior experiences to compare to I'm hoping we will have a great time. Our main reason for choosing NCL this time was the opporunity to sail out of Tampa on a 7 day cruise. I would actually rather have sailed CCL but a 7 day is no longer available out of Tampa. We don't sail until Jan 10 2016 and can cancel and get our deposit back until sometime in Oct so I'll be interested in reviews especially of the Star. Sail on and be happy.

  9. We are looking at booking a cruise on the Star in Jan 2016 and if we do I hope this continues. None of us like lobster and hopefully everyone at the buffet will be lined up for them and there won't be any lines for the really good stuff. :D Actually I am quite interested in opinions of the food and other amenities of the Star.

  10. We did check the exact ships we would be on for the week we are looking at but thanks for the suggestion. The Norwegian Star is one and the other is the Vision of the Seas. Thanks for the great idea of asking about those ships on their specific forums, why didn't I think of that? lol I might even find a helpful review. I really appreciate everyones input.

  11. Ok, we are down to either Norwegian or RCI. The boys have checked them out and are good with both. The wife says either is fine with her so I have a question. Which has the best food options both included in the price and extra besides the main dining rooms which I'm sure are great on both. I just like to have burgers and buffets and pizza or pasta available most all the time. Never know when you might have the urge to eat. :D

  12. We have been sailing on Carnival and the grandsons love their activities but Carnival isn't offering 7 day cruises out of Tampa anymore and we really would rather sail from there so we are looking for another line. Who can give me some first hand info on lines with lots of activities for the kids. 2 boys ages 14 & 10. Thanks.

  13. Hello all. First I have sailed on RCI before but it was many years ago and I had a bad experience so We have been sailing Carnival ever since. Unfortunately Carnival is no longer doing cruises over 5 days out of Tampa so we are looking around for another line. I'm not going to hold my bad experience against them as it was partly my fault so I'd like some info and or opinions on sailing RCI. We will have 2 grandsons with us 14 & 10. They loved the kids activities on Carnival and I'm hoping that other lines have good stuff for them as well. Unhappy kids = unhappy papaw. All info welcomed and appreciated.

  14. Hello all, been a while since I've been on. We are trying to start planning our next cruise and I was looking for sailings out of Tampa as that works best for us. Right now there are only 2 showing in January 2016. We don't really care for either as we prefer a longer cruise. Is Carnival sailing less out of Tampa or am I just not going about looking correctly? Last time I looked they had scads of cruises sailing out of Tampa. Thanks.

  15. Wow. Some of you have been booked on this cruise and following this roll call for a longgg time! We just booked yesterday! Looking forward to it. It will be my third cruise, second on Carnival and my wife's fourth and third on Carnival. This will be the first cruise for our 12 yo and 8 yo grandsons as well as my 87 yo mother. We are going to give a Deluxe Ocean View room a try with 5 people. lol We'll see how it goes. I look forward to reading thru this thread from the beginning when I can find the time to finish it all. Maybe we will run into some of you on board.
