THANK YOU ! THANK YOU EVERYBODY....!!
I NEVER thought that the choice could be so easy... I have never been even CLOSE to the USA, let alone the tropical islands -so this is really unknown territory for me...
Your response and all the info you give me is very much appreciated.
THANX AGAIN.

We are two ladies in our mid-sixties and we have to choose between a
4 day cruise to Bahamas featuring Grand Bahama, Great Stirrup Cay and Nassau on Norwegian Sky
or
7 day Eastern Caribbean cruise featuring St Thomas, Tortola and Nassau
on Norwegian Getaway
as an add-on to our Alaska cruise of 7 days on Norwegian Sun
during September...
PLEASE HELP ???

Thanx theloo... what would be nicer from Anchorage to Seward - motor coach or train...we have to travel from Anchorage to Seward to get to our cruise ship which will depart from Seward a week after our arrival by air in Anchorage...

We will be in Anchorage and Seaward pre-cruise during the first week in September. Arriving by air in Anchorage on the Tuesday and embarking in Seaward on the next Monday.... We have not finalised any accommodation.
What do you suggest ? Any ideas are more than welcome.
Are there day-trips from either of these cities to Denali -and from which city would it be easier...We are mostly interested in using a shuttle service. We will not consider doing any driving by ourselves.
How does it work ?
Thanx in anticipation...

Thank you skoi13 and grobma for your answers...I have ordered both the books and should receive it in 2 weeks time.
In South Africa everything takes t-i-m-e.
Our Alaska cruise is only in 2015...After our Mediterranean cruise last year, we have to save some money first.
Thanx again.

Deacon,
Thanks for a wonderful post...
We have Red Leaf tickets for Rocky Mountaineer when our cruise ends in Vancouver... My question: If we are going to do Rocky Mountaineer, is it stil necessary to do the White Pass&Youkon train excursion from Skagway, or is is much the same ?
Thanks again !

I was given return tickets for the Rocky Mountaineer Train from Vancouver (where our cruise ends) to Whistler...
I would like to hear opinions on whether this ride would replace the thrills of the White Pass & Youkon train from Skagway or would it be necessary to do both trips ?
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
This is our first trip to Alaska.

Any suggestions for books on Alaskan Cruise Ports ?
I used Rick Steves's excellent book "Mediterranean Cruise Ports" on our cruise in Oct 2013...we could not have done so much on our own without that book, but unfortunately he has not written any guide books on Alaska.
Please let me know if there are any such publications on Alaskan cruise ports.
Sincere thanks.

I read somewhere that one should buy your warm windbreaker in Alaska....Our September cruise starts in Seaward . Is this good advice and what would roughly be the price of a warm and/or waterproof jacket in Anchorage or Seward ?
What do passengers wear to dinner in the main diningrooms on Norwegian Sun on an Alaskan cruise in September.
Thanx for any advice...I do appreciate.
We live in sunny South Africa where it is never really cold.

We are planning an Alaskan Cruise from Seaward to Vancouver in September.
We are thinking of a balcony stateroom on deck 9 of Norwegian Sun. Which side of the ship will be best...Port or Starboard?
Any other advice ?
Thanks for the help

Difficult Choice: Bahamas or Eastern Caribbean
in Norwegian Cruise Line

Thanks Tatka, we have to go Norwegian as we already have the deposit as a cruise reward and we have a limited budget due to the VERY expensive airfare flying from South Africa and a horrendously weak currency compared to US$...
But we intend to make the most of it.
I really do appreciate your input !
