Did she finish any culinary school? Did she ever cook in a restaurant where she didn't have connections? Trying to figure out why they hired her.

LOL. Google is your friend also 🙂
I didn't find any mention of her finishing a program, which I'm sure would have been if she had.
Out of curiosity I looked and except for an executive chef position which she would never be qualified for, the other highest ranked position was line cook. And even that, without the family background, I can't imagine them hiring some like her- with minimal qualifications.
I no longer watch cooking shows as they became if I may give my never humble opinion...just plain stupid. Did she actually have shows where she would cook an entire dish and have herself ant maybe another taste it?
Honestly I see Oceania quite wisely preparing for the time when we boomers will have moved off ships and maybe died. They desperately need to get that younger blood and maybe that's how.

Sorry but Giada is not going to do it.

How strict are the specialty restaurants regarding the time of your reservation? Will they seat you any earlier or later than the exact time?  For example, if we have a 6:30 reservation, can we show up later and still be seated?  Or if we have 8:30, can we possibly be seated earlier?

First off they only hold your reservation for 15 minutes, to be fair to all. If it is slow you might be able seated early but remember they need to manage the flow of orders, to help kitchen and servers.

We've sailed all the mainstream lines like NCL, Royal, Carnival, Princess, Holland.  Two adults and two kids 11 and 13.

We're not into dressing and the kids are decently up well behaved.  How much more upscale is Oceania, Regent, Azamara, Seabourn and the other luxury lines.  Would we be eye-sores as passengers?  Should we even care about what other think?  We prefer a more laid back vacation, but some of the itineraries on these luxury lines are very enticing, especially for my teen.

Generally there is little to do for children that age. Unless they are into reading, or it is a port intensive cruise not sire they would enjoy.

  4. They were both on our ship in Oct, rarely interacted with guests unless platinum. Must say I miss Franck G. Waves offerings were very redundant. Food still better than comparable lines. Haven't tried EJ hoping they expand their destinations.

  5. Sadly few are using the hand sanitizing stations, and in the Fall last year I saw far too many folks trying to serve themselves. Please remember these protocols are designed to help limit the spread of things like this.

  6. So simply more  has started and we have found that our credits don't go as far as before. Fewer under low cost options. For those who have ended up with usable "credits " either due to SE cancellations, or filled cruises are you ready to switch to another line? We have three more cruises and think simply more is not worth the loyalty. Please be kind in response.

We took a cruise in June. We didn’t book any future cruises on that cruise. Shortly after returning home( July 1, 2023)we got a nice welcome home letter that had an offer of $200 off any booking made within 45 days of returning home.  Nice gesture.  We looked at future cruises, called our TA, booked a cruise, and told her about the $200 coupon.  That was July 2023.  She said that she would send us an updated invoice as soon as Oceania applied the $200.  Hasn’t happened. We are almost at final payment. Spoke to TA. She said that Oceania thinks we booked onboard and will not honor the $200 coupon. TA knows that this isn’t true.  Has anyone else had any problem with the welcome home voucher?   My TA increased OBC to cover the $200.

Happened to us once, we always save our final statement. So if needed our agent would have proof we did not use FCC. Our agent was persistent and we received our FCC with 4 weeks of questioning.  They said they had to wait till our onboarding account was audited.

I can count them tomorrow, but you seem to miss my point.  As long as demand exceeds supply, there is going to be a problem with chair hogs.  In Regent's case there are enough loungers, just not enough in the shade - hence a problem with chair hogs for those loungers. OP asked if the problem with chair hogs was unsolvable. I believe the only surefire solution is for cruise lines to bring supply in balance with demand. Short of that, I don't see a real solution. Do you disagree?

When people save two loungers per person demand will exceed supply. And pack more chairs will only make it a trip hazard.  Passengers that are considerate is what is needed.

While it pales next Mideast settlement issues, as I am sitting poolside on the Vista in an upright  chair since the lounge ones are claimed with towels or personal belongings - is there any way to fix this problem? It is a universal

challenge on cruise ships regardless of demographics and ubiquitous CruiseCritic subject of debate.

Bad behavior is bad behavior. You can put lipstick on a chair hog but it is still a hog,

Not unsolvable but maybe uncomfortable to address. When I see no one I move items and then if they show up within 30 minutes of when I showed up I offer to move if they want the chair. If its alot longer than that I just say I'm sorry but I have bern here for hours and no one was using chairs. I also have asked someone who was holding chairs both in shade and sun if I could sit in one of them since they can't occupy both at same time.  Uncomfortable but gets point across.

And if your CD is Ray Carr - you will find yourself booted out of Trivia if you bring out those electronic devices...your fellow trivia players will rat on you and Ray will not have any empathy...seen it happen

Exactly what should be done. Sadly respect for rules has gone out the window.

Or you can go for the Wagyu Tomahawk Steak that is definitely large enough to be shared. But of course there is the huge Porterhouse or maybe the 32oz Prime Rib.  Oh, decisions, decisions.

    You can handle it

Not all of the above options are available in Vista Polo. Have tweaked the menus in each speciality restaurant, not sure if the same changes will be made during refurb of Marina?

We have sailed many cruises with Oceania and never were woken by announcements. This cruise has announcements so loud that wakes us as early as 7AM. We talked to front desk and they suggested ear plugs. This is a deal breaker for us. Today while on a tender others were complaining about the early morning announcements. Anyone else experience this?

We have always had announcements upon arrivals and 9. Excursions are early on this trip. Yes if it is bothersome enough find a line more to your liking.

Guessing they are recessed. We were in 7121 and had no view obstructions in any direction. Don't know what the balconies on 10 and 11 are like but ours was large with 2 tables, chairs and chaise lounges. The only thing we didn't like was no access to deck 5.

Not sure what you mean no access to deck 5,can you explain. There are a bank of elevators that access decks 4 and 5 on Vista.

well home after a long day  travelling

I will do a review sometime  soon when I get caught up on other things

Overall the trip was good  ships is very nice & food was very good with a few not so good

    FYI

They have some vinyl type  deck surface  & when wet  if you do not have  good  sneakers or deck shoes  it is very slippery

Went to go from Barristas to Horizons  &  just as we stepped out from under the awning realized it was a light rain  but before  I could turn back  down I went

strained my left ankle & pulled muscles/ligament  in right leg  & knee

The restaurant manager came  to see if I was OK took cabin number  to make report

So not a good end to the cruise

Moral of the story  take good sneakers 😉

    Lyn

Great seeing you. Glad you are home safe. Recover.

First, once the cruise is done, I will come back with a full review and parts of it will be an extensive number of interior photos on my blog. In the meantime here are my thoughts on the lounges. They are fine but, what we would really love is someplace quiet where we can have a nice cocktail and talk. The first day we tried Martinis. A great lounge but, after we had been there for 15 minutes, a piano player sat down and played some great music. The only problem was, we wanted to talk. There are seven of us and that's why we came together from all over the country...to socialize. After he started playing, we couldn't hear a word we said to each other.

Don't get me wrong. I have no problem with background music...but that's where it belongs, in the background. But we thought that night, "No problem...we will move to the Grand Bar (which is a very nice long hallway with lots of seats) tomorrow night." But just about the same time as the night before, a string quartet (who are VERY good) set up and started to play. Again, we were expected to stop talking (got shushed a bunch of times) and listen. I get that. So the next night we said, let's go up to The Horizons Lounge.

Same thing—talked for five minutes and the ship's band started playing. Loudly, for dancing. Great. People love to dance. We just wanted a place to have a pre-dinner drink and talk. I need to mention here that the Founders Bar has only tables for two so that wouldn't work for us.

So my biggest problem with Oceania's lounges is that there are really only three indoor lounges. And not one of them is conducive to having a drink and talking. We cruise to either be with friends or to make new ones. If we want to listen to music, we will put our Airpods in our ears and listen. We just want to have a discussion without having to yell over music or ruin other's musical enjoyment. Can't there be one place where there is true background music? You won't find one before dinner on this ship.

Go to Barristas after 6, go on back deck in Terrace. Lots of places to meet up and ta.k.
