  1. We see all types of attire, some unsuitable. Most men wear collared knit or golf shirts, some wear long sleeved dress shirts, a few wear jackets. Ladies range from sport clothes to dressy pants sets to nice dresses. In short, anything goes.

It is cool on board and many ladies wear light jackets or sweaters.

  2. Still rocking and rolling, 16 knots. Evidently not using stabilizers, but I could be wrong. Sun out at times, but no rain today..so far.

We are happy to find that the pianist Max is on board till January when he returns to the Quest. Heike is , as usual, charming and caring, and Captain Johannes is highly visible and friendly.

    Azamara gets new ships

The new Germany boss of Royal Caribbean, Jörg Rudolph has rejected speculation about the setting of the luxury brand Azamara Club Cruises. "The brand is to be continued", Managing Director of RCL Cruises said in an interview with tourism-date. Thus, even two new vessels are planned. Whether it is used or new construction units should be decided in late summer.

Currently Azamara operates the two sister ships, Quest and Journey, which each hold 686 passengers, and would, according to Rudolph increasingly requested by Charter. Especially for the coming summer why am less capacity for the single sale.

    More news to Cruise

  4. Some of the terrain is difficult. We used tevas, one of my soles ripped off, so consider hiking boots

There are binoculars, 10x50, but quite beat up, some better than others.

No dress-up clothes needed, ever. There are always some who dress up, though.

Very little offered for shopping, A couple of tiny window displays, but must say we didn't ask to see more.

No laundry, but you can have it done at a high price. Silver Suite category includes laundry.

  5. There is a thread on the Silverseas board covering their cruise of the fjords. Started by TLCOhio.

For details and visuals, etc., from our July 1-16, 2010, Norway Coast/Fjords/Arctic Circle cruise experience from Copenhagen on the Silver Cloud, check out this posting. This posting is now at 159,687 views. Nice to be hitting this high of a level for viewership. Appreciate the interest and follow-up questions/comments!!

  6. I second the advice about visiting Sagrada Familia, but a word of caution about going up in a tower. The "many" steps down are circular and narrow, with several little windows or tiny balconies to step out to see the carved stone. Your calves "will" be aching.

    But.....enjoy!

  7. We will be on the Silver Spirit for a Caribbean December cruise. Have visited almost every island several times on the megaships. Does Silverseas have any special tours that might make it more interesting?

We're looking forward to the Silverseas experience itself, having only been on the Silver Galapagos before.

  8. Esther and I were on the cruise just before photogirl, the North-Central islands. I'm 90, Esther 88 and we did not go on the longer hikes that were rocky and/or hilly terrain. We were fine with both the dry and wet landings, and there were always crew or guides helping us get in and out of the zodiaks. It was tricky with the swells, but as Liz said, take your time and wait for someone to give you the firm wrist to wrist hold.

  9. I've heard that the government provides the list of applicants. The workers want to stay to work on the Silver Galapagos but I guess the government wants to give the jobs to more workers. This applies to every ship in the Galapagos.

Unfortunately, Silversea can't even bring in their own trained supervisors. They would never allow the lack of attention to the basics like dusting, vacuuming, washing windows.

  10. I feel that Silversea is remiss in advertising that a Silver Galapagos cruise is on a par with cruises on other Silversea ships.

There have been many posts about quality of the service onboard the Silver Galapagos, both room and dining. On our June 7th cruise, I had several chats with Gustavo the Maitre’d and understand that Silversea is bound by Government regulations to an employee serving six weeks and then off two or three weeks. They do not usually return, new people are assigned. I’ve heard also that Silversea is not able to pick and choose who they can hire. They are certainly trying to train the staff and have instructional and language sessions daily. It is a slow go! Perhaps after a year or so, the rotation of staff will provide enough training so the service will approach Silversea standards.

Meanwhile, all I can say to those planning to cruise on the Silver Galapagos is to go, enjoy the wonderful animals and adventures and realize that it is an expedition ship, not a luxury liner.
